  1. Since you are talking about running the wire inside the wall take a look at MonoPrice, would be worth it to pick up the CL2 rated wire and for $25 for 100 feet that is a great price. I have MonoPrice 12awg wire running three of my systems and I haven't had any problems with it, now the one I have is the regular one.

As for the receiver choices, is there something missing in the 606 that you want to upgrade to the 608? I looked and neither has pre-outs for an external amp down the road if you wanted to go that route.

  2. First off that is a great thing to do for her.

As mentioned, you can easily pick up a receiver and can run these, just use the Aux input to connection the I-Pod and computer with something like this. I have the same one that I connect my cell phone or friends I-Pod to my receiver.

If you are able to re-veneer these at a later time then I would go with the ideal of painting white and then handing the paint brush, with whatever colors your daughter likes, over to her and let her do some designs or friends sign them. I would fix the corner and everything first as that should help with the re-veneering at the later date. Also staining could be a good option but not a personal to her as painting them would be.

  3. How in the world do you guys manage to come by these things??

    Tom

I want to apologize for interupting you guys' personal conversation by asking the above serious question.

    Silly me........

    Tom

I do believe that Coytee purchased these on Ebay. But many have found them on Craigslist also. Just a matter of always looking in the usual spots..

  4. It sounds good, and I'm sure with more playtime in the cart it will sound better.

That's the problem, then the voices start talking to you. You need this cart, no this one.... You need this pre to finish it off, then you'll be done I promise.

Run now man while your still at the door of all this madness.....

    BTW, very cool setup...

  5. Free

Why pay? I have Acronis, but I found Easeus which appears to be the same engine. Works perfectly and costs nothing. You can clone either to an external drive or to your d drive, as well as place a copy of the clone on another drive...which I always do.

    Check it out.

As always, thanks Dave for the information about this program. I was looking for something for a friends computer to back it up, I'll try it out on my machine first then do theirs.

  6. I just picked up a used one a few months back so not much time with it but no problems. It is in one of my 2-channel setups so it doesn't get used everyday. I do have the 981 in my main setup that's about 2 or 3 years old and running good. I watch on average 3 movies a week, from Netflix, so it has gotten a work out.

  7. The RB-81's are very tall and at an angle, would be top heavy. Thoughts?

Don't really know. My only experience is with the WA-30.0 which mounts toward the bottom of my RS-62's and I have them angled down a bit and no problems. I think that if that is the only concern then maybe getting the next model up that supports 60# and then you really wouldn't have to worry about them crashing down.

  8. Are there threaded inserts in the bottoms of the speakers for mounting purposes?

I would not think that a bookshelf would have a threaded insert in the bottom, if any, it would likely be on the backside.

Per the Spec page on the RB-81 it does say that it has a bottom mount: Dual 1/4"-20 threaded inserts for stand attachment.

Now that is the same description as my RS-62 in which I have (4) threaded inserts in the back that the OmniMount WA-30.0 attach to.

If you are worried about the weight of the RB-81 and the OmniMount both being 30 lbs. you can always get the WB-60.0 and that shouldn't have any problems supporting the 30 lbs. of the RB-81's.

    James

  9. If you need something that is a little more adjustable take a look at OmniMount 30.0 WB. I have the similar 30.0 WA for my RS-62 and I haven't had any problems.

You might have to search around for the best price on them but it shouldn't be hard at all to find a deal on them, from a good dealer. Good luck with your search.

  10. Scour ebay and audiogon. You can find a used Rega, pro-ject, Thorens and others. You can probably get them for $300-$400. Spend the rest on a cart.

    +1 on that

Plus look on Craigslist but just make sure what you are getting and paying for it.

  11. Jeff Beck: Live at Ronnie Scott's

I'll have to add that to the list, thanks...

I can listen with a little more volume tomorrow when everyone is awake

With those speakers, are you referring to the people from the next town.... [:P]

  12. Why does it have to be so impossible to get reliable and functional consumer electronics???

How else would they make money...

It is great to hear that it was under warranty and fixed for free, to bad it still happened. Hope now that it will last longer then the original 2 years before breaking again.

  13. RN,

Sounds like a great deal, from the original purchase to the $70 for both pieces getting a look thru and cleaning.

Does the place you took it to have a web site? Been thinking about taking my 4 receivers in to get a look thru and repaired, (2) H/K, (1) Marantz and (1) Yamaha.

    James

  14. Great to hear that you found something, good luck, hope she likes them.

I was going to mention if it was possible the build something and sketch it out to show her to make sure she would like it before it was made. This way you would both win, she would like the stand and you wouldn't have to get different speakers. Plus it would be made with wood and could be stained to match your existing furniture.

  15. I haven't heard the Synergy line in a while so I can't help to much on the center channel choice. I think that you are right about turning up the center channel to match the B-3. For a perfect match can you get another B-3 and use that as the center? This way the front three speakers will match and that is the best thing that you want, Timber Match.

I was going to mention get a B-2 for the center but that would be almost like the C-1, since that is the matching center for the B-2.

You can use B-2's for all the other channels if you want, especially if you can find them easier. You might have to angle them toward the sitting position more since they are directional speakers but that isn't to bad.

Good luck on the search and post some pictures when you get everything set up.

  16. Stop reading about the new setups and show your new room setup...

You should know by now that when you move into a new house and set everything up you NEED to post new pictures....

    James

btw, congrats on the job change and new house....
