  1. I hate the svs pb-10. Not enough power. A good thing to check, at least for me, is the dB rating. I bought the svs and the sub-12 and I would pick the sub-12 any day over it. As for the rw-12 it's a lot like the sub-12 in sound, at least that's what I called from someone, but for 519 that would be a really nice price. A sub-12 can be had from ebay for about $350. I like the rw-12 as far as looks goes, but for "bang for your buck" you can't beat a sub-12 (obtained from ebay of course). I was also looking at the dayton kits, but they're sealed so they don't produce the dB (decibles) for my taste. It's great when everything rattles in my room.
  2. pm or email me for your price on the denon kshiozak@ucsd.edu
  3. Ahhh nuts, and I just bought a 30 sub cable. Actually my old HK-3380 had the LFE on it so I figured all other current models probably have that as well. As for the outlaw, I know a lot of the brands out there are great and everything, but how is the matching? I think of the good brands as top musicians where they all sound great, but it's their particular playing style that you prefer.
  4. Thanks Paul for the info. I was originally looking into the pioneer elite vsx-80 but I don't think all that money for the mosdac or whatever the speaker controls are, are not very useful for me, and the other HDMI switching stuff or multi room options. I just need a basic receiver that sounds pretty good. Um is there a sub out on there? LFE?
  5. Hey woodsman which other receivers have you tried out before? I'm just curious because I bought the HK and thought it was pretty good until I compared it to one of my older 80's onkyo receivers. The older onkyo was decent at that time, and upon comparasion it whoops the HK hands down. Particularly in the round sound and in clarity. I just don't want to use it because it doesn't have an LFE plus no remote, and also for asthetical purposes as well. I WOULD like to try tubes, but it doesn't have that dynamic PUNCH in there which really brings music alive in my eyes.
  6. I was wondering if the apparent lesser receivers work equally as well as the bigger 7.1's and such. In particular I'm looking at the denon dra-685 and the denon dra-395 and how the sound quality differs from the 280X and 380X series. I basically just want to get another receiver that sounds pretty good. I'm running an HK-3380 and well... the sound isn't clear and it's rather shallow sounding plus I'm giving it to my parents for christmas along with an svs pb-10 and KLF-20's []. Also I'm tryign to budget around $400 or so. Oh I completely forgot what speakers and such I'm running off of. I'm going to be utilizing RB-75's, I recently acquired a pristine pair in cherry!, along with a sub-12. Anyone have any other recommendations for 2 channel receivers or 5.1 or anything that's cheap yet decent? I looked into pioneer elite receivers and I just don't particularly care for the sound. Perhaps the setup was bad, but it sounded very thin and lacked depth. *I was auditioning a pair of RF-82's coupled with the TX-80 I believe* I particularly want a warm sound. I think I'm just rambling since I'm looking forward to the KLF-20's which are due to arrive soon as well as the prospect of purchasing another toy for myself.
  7. So I have the sub-12 and the SVS PB-10. I actually picked one up through a local. When I was playing anything it didn't play ANYWHERE near the volume or depth that the sub-12 could. Granted I realize that the sub-12 is rated at 117 db and the PB-10 is somewhere closer to 105, I thought at lower volumes it could keep up. My sub-12 was at 30% volume and blasted away at the PB-10, which was at max volume. It was pathetic. Also the PB-10 also doesn't have a limit for the frequency. It played all the louds from the LFE instead of a limited range which really annoyed me. I'm not to technical at this point. I'm just mad at this sub. If anyone wants to buy it from me, I'm selling it for $350 in the Los Angeles area. After reading this I bet you guys wouldn't want to buy it from me. I only tested this with music and wow so disappointed. I suppose I could position it better and such, but it's just not good enough. ARGH!
  8. This is listed on audiogon. I was tempted to buy it for my parents, but my mother doens't want crappy looking speakers and I don't want to reveneer it or whatever to get it back into nice shape. Good buy for those looking.
  9. is the dayton 10 according to partsexpress actually just 105 dB? If the sub-10 is 115 why would the dayton be better?
  10. Haha thanks for the offer, but I'm more or less just looking to slap all the parts together without actualy work. I'm actually purchasing this for my parents and was thinking of either getting and easy DIY sub or just a sub-12
  11. Hmm that sounds pretty Interesting. I really don't have any cutting tools or anything and I'm pretty much limited to a small tool set. Is there also an enclosure I could purchase where I can just screw the stuff into?
  12. Ahh that sounds great, can you give me the price? I actually live in San Diego, but I'm picking these up for my parents who live in Los Angeles.
  13. Ok well first for starters the bigger the woofer the lower the woofer will be able to "dig" which just refers to frequency. So the RB-81 will be better than the RB-61 for it's more rounded sound. I'm not sure if the tweeter is the same, but it's probably pretty close. The RF series which are the floor standing speakers have another woofer and gives a bigger sound stage *hard to explain this one*. I had this problem earlier and for me size was an issue. I just opted to get the RB-75's and a sub. 75's are the best bookshelf speakers too bad they don't make them anymore. If you have space, then go with the RF-62's if not go to the RB-81.
  14. I'm looking for the above mentioned. I don't want dented woofers unless it's on the passive radiators on the Forte or Chorus. I do want pictures prior to buy and I shall pay through paypal or cash if the transaction is done in person. Thanks!
  15. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?PartNumber=300-760&raid=37&rak=300-760 Hey guys is this sub comparable to the sub-10?
  16. This may sound stupid, but did you try the gain dial on the back of the sub? I had the same thing happen, then i just realized oops forgot the volume knob.
  17. Oh yeah has anyone here built a tube amp from scratch? *Meaning designed their own from the ground up*
  18. I was just looking on ebay and saw some of the chinese made tube amps and was questioning their quality and seeing in another tube form complain about them. The schematic they had wasn't quite right and the parts were wired incorrectly. There were other complications and such as well and I know it isn't good to judge them all the same. But I wanted a good opinion from the klipschers out there to see if people had good experiences from them.
  19. I was actually mostly inquiring about the quality. Chinese made things sometimes have pretty horrible quality.
  20. Anyone purchased chinese made ones? Also what are acceptible S/N for tubes and such? I'm using SS right now and I think I might just have to give tubes a chance. I just don't want to buy old faulty junk. Also how often do the tubes burn out and such or what other things should I know prior to purchasing tubes? Thanks guys
  21. Bleh... I don't like non-horn loaded speakers. They just don't have the same bright vivacious sound to it. Gee I wonder how my old jbl 4343 would sound if I refoamed it and stuff *and yes they do have horns!* I went to go hear some B&W speakers of the model that's right below the Nautilus or however you spell it, and wow they did sound good, but just not quite the same without the horns.
  22. LOL gee i like the kicking one the best, but anyways I went out and got them yesterday and they sounded great! It was in absolute pristine condition so the $650 was well worth it. Man they sound WAY better than my rf-3's and makes me glad I got rid of them ahhh.... Now for my receiver to go lol
  23. ahh thanks for the info guys, sorry I mean RB-75 I just read what I wrote lol. I probably should do that a little more often. I haven't seen a picture of them yet, and I have seen pictures of dented woofers and such on ebay and I wondered how big of a difference it would make. I was just wondering if the sound quality slowly fades with time or is it pretty much always good as long as the woofer doesn't need to be refoamed and the tweeter isn't blown out. I will get to test them.... hmm i guess now the question is what songs should I listen to. Since I'm going to be moving around a bit in the next few years I decided to do away with my RF-3's. Sad to see them go but upgrading is always nice.
  24. I'm going to be picking up a pair of used bookshelf speakers RB-5's and I was wondering how can I tell if they're blown out or what not. Do dented woofers make a difference? What should I test for and etc. I want the speakers, I just don'tknow what to be leery about. Thanks
  25. The blue rays are around $1000 I believe. There's always debate about that sort of thing if the consoles will be as good as a player. It works, so I don't ever really mind. Besides my eyes are not very good anyways so I wouldn't be able to tell much difference and thus I'm an audiophile lol. Just curious, how can you type if you cannot use your hands?
