  1. Hey guys I just compared my old tx-38, onkyo quartz receiver, and compared it to my hk 3380. Damn i'm kind of dissappointed. The 15 year old pos sounded much clearer and defined than the new receiver. Wow! The tx-38 was about the same price as the hk 3380 when new so I figured since technology has improved so would the sound quality. Anyone know about quartz receivers? It sure sounded nice. Oh yeah they were tested on RF-3's on numberous songs (about 8).
  2. Wow that's a pretty nice hole there. Are any of the components melted? It doesn't appear so from the pictures.
  3. oooh thanks catharsis, I actually just found one locally for $650 which I'll snag once I sell my RF-3's to my buddy. I'll be sad to see them go, but they just are too heavy to drag around plus I have a sub-12 so I no longer care about the secondary woofer. Ahh... I can't wait till I get it
  4. How much would a pair run for these days? I never see them around and I REALLY would like to purchase them. Oh yeah, do you guys think the new rb-81 is similar to the rf-7 vs rf-83 comparasion? If it sounds less harsh then I think that'd be a great buy as well.
  5. oh yeah I heard about something about crackling in e&m physics. It has to do with the older homes that have something with them and 60 hertz for subwoofers. I don't recall it very well, but I heard that it creates a funny sound. I could be completely wrong, but never hurts to hear a suggestion.
  6. I think I win in the category. I purchased my sub-12 for $305 shipped on ebay for a bin. Dang I'm lucky!!! Yes go with the sub-12, sub-10 just doesn't cut it. Plus you might be able to score like i did.
  7. for me I don't even use my speakers for theater so I just use analog through a 1/8 mini stereo. I'm using SB X-treme music. Oh and yes, don't use analog for such long distances and wireless also has its problems. I'm not sure how it affects music, but after for networking, depending on how many walls you have and the angel of the wall from the source to the receiver, it may not even go through. Digital is the way to go!
  8. Hey guys I'm going to be selling my RF-3's in about 1 to 2 months ish and I was wondering if anyone would be interested. I want to buy a pair of RB-75 since I'm moving out of my parents house and my house is going to be rather small. Anyways I'm going to be located in san diego california area code 92117. If anyone is interested please email me at kshiozak@ucsd.edu and I can take photos in a month. I'm also looking to buy RB-75's also in about a month. I'm posting this waaaay in advance so that I can get interested people etc and avoid complications. Now time for my description. My price: $450 RF-3's Black 1 1/4" are where the veneer chipped off No cones scratched or dented Most grill pegs fell off, but kept most so you can glue them back on Work in perfect condition All pegs included
  9. those don't have much on the ifi's. Let's just take a look at the drivers. I think they ones in the altec are like .75 inch drivers with no realy midrange driver and a tiny sub. Ever look at good speakers? They have ranging drivers to fill in the gaps and such, but more over, the altec's just don't have the sharpness to the music.
  10. what' are decorater heresys? And yes I'd like to see pictures if possible along with your price. My email is kshiozak@ucsd.edu
  11. yeah it's a hissing sound. My computer fan isn't too loud since it's an upgraded silent fan. I figured out afterwards that the RF-3's placement is a bit hard. One being horns, two producing a decent amount of noise.
  12. So right now I'm running on some RF-3's with a hk 3380. Anyways, when I had my promedias, the speakers could be a foot away or so and I wouldn't hear any noise. With my new speakers I can hear a decent amount when they are close and it's quite annoying. Whre should I place my speakers and is there anythign I can do to reduce the noise? I'm also running the x-fi sound card and using only monster cables.
  13. Hi I'm looking to pick up a pair of heresies. I'm in the San Diego area and Los Angeles area. I would like to do local pick up, but if not, then shipping is alright as well. Please email me at kshiozak@ucsd.edu Please include some pictures.
  14. Hey this sounds stupid but, has anyone ever replaced their speaker with something else? My speaker is pretty much dead, the one that does conference calling and rings, so I want to stick something in there that might sound better. *shrug*
  15. oh no, I'm looking for my friend. I already have a set of RF-3's. My friend bought the IFI's and he doesn't like the highs that much, so he's trying to buy a speaker with a better horn.
  16. Hi I'm looking to buying RB-15's RB-25's the newer synergy B-2's or B-3's, or RSX-5's. If you can offer me a good deal, then I'd definately would like to purchase them from you.
  17. I had one more question with the heresy vs RF-3's. So right now I can hear the lower sounds, i'm guessing 1k frequency that's just nice. Will the heresy be able to do these equally as well? I'm buying a sub-12 pretty soon and I was wondering if there will still be gaps with that set up. I plan to buy the Heresy II. Thanks
  18. Right now I'm in San Diego, California and I'm going back home to Los Angeles for the summer then back here again. I want to find local deals so I can see the speakers and make sure no photoshopping or incorrect descriptions happen, like ePay(hehe). I also don't want to pay for shipping since that taks on another 60-70 dollars.
  19. Is there a way to tell if they are getting close to blown out? Or is it just they are or aren't? I hope the 75's sound good. I have about 400-500 to drop on speakers, but I like to spend as little as possible and upgrade part of it such as the crossovers.
  20. I found a 75' heresy for $200. It appears to be in ok condition, but a few things are puzzling me. It looks like there's a little spray paint inside the housing of the speakers. Also I don't know how to detect if speakers are blown and what not. If the woofer is blown can I refoam it? I don't really know what to look for and such. Any input would be great. Thanks
  21. oh yeah also what are the rankings for all those speakers? I think the Klipschorns are at the top then la scala and I have absolutely NO idea past that. I'm using my RF-3's right now and they just don't have the right sound i'm looking for. The sound is just too concentrated in a specific frequency it seems like, but it has a lot of bass.
  22. also just wondering which heresry do you guys think is the best?
  23. Hey guys I want to do this right and not mess up again. Is the heresy the best you can get for about 400-500 bucks? I don't want to end up buying speakers again like I have been doing. How about the KG series or Klipsch legendary series? Ahh!!! I hate being an audiophile, all this upgrading is killing me =D
  24. hmm which one do you prefer? I sure do like my RF-3's but I think there's somethign lacking. I'm not to sure but I hear the high range and low range, but not so much the middle range.
  25. ummm... what? Sorry I don't quite get all of the jargon. I don't know what s-9's are nor gauss or free air resonators etc. and what is ymmv short for? I was actually thinking of using la scala horns and drivers but designing my own cabinates using some of my physics knowledge and 3d studio max. *I don't like auto cad* I suppose I'll be doing the designs and taking pictures and asking people how they think it would work. I do what to know what does the 15" driver look like on the la scala and where is it positioned etc. I know what the tweeter and mid looks like and the positioning but not the rest.
