  1. sektor - First, let me say that I'm no expert in this and with all the other experts/professionals on this forum, you'll probably get better advice. I recently added in-walls to my family room because of similar restraints - lack of room due to room configuration. I put the R-5800 in front and R-5650 as rears. Now, I'm not an audiophile by any means ($ mainly), but they sound awesome. I've had many positive comments about how well they sound. I think with the right power driving them, they should sound fine. No doubt you'll lose some of the "directness" of the speaker, but for home theater, having a good center channel facing you, I think it will work fine, as the R&L fronts serve more as ambience in a movie. Just my .02 - I'm sure others will have better suggestions/feedback.
  2. satchmo - You're right - it's not fun at all, but I think they would look nice if done right. From the sounds of it, I did the exact same thing you did. I got the small spray unit (I think it was called PreVal for something) - looked like it would work, but found the same as you that I had to dilute it A LOT. But from the sounds of your experience, it looks like I didn't dilute it enough! I was still getting the spurts of paint coming out of the sprayer and not a steady stream that was needed. I did only the one grill to test, but forgot to take the fabric backing off (I could probably just tear it off completely), but because of the intermittent spray pattern, the finish looked bad. But after hearing your advice, I might try it again - when the paint is more like water than milk! Thanks, Bud!
  3. Yes - Actually talked to someone in the parts department and they said that my grills are the "old" style that have push in mounts and now they've moved to the magnetic mounts. I thought this was interesting in that I had purchased the speakers about 30 days prior and they're already completely out of stock of replacement grills and none to be made? [:@] Either that or my dealer (supposedly a pretty reputable dealer in the Chicago area - The Little Guys) screwed me with outdated speakers sold at new prices. Well, unless Klipsch decides to trade-out my RW-5650's and RW-5800's, I guess I'm SOL. That's why I thought I'd try this board as a last resort. Thanks!
  4. I agree with Scooter - as cool as it sounds, I think the HD-DVD is in such an infancy stage, that the average consumer (and audio/videophile) may serve best to wait until a lot of the technology bugs are worked out and ultimately simplified to the extent that burning a CD is today. Just my .02.
  5. I posted this in Architectural, but I thought I might get more responses here... Hi everyone - new to this board. Wish I would have found out about it a few months ago! I purchased a set of R-5800 fronts and R-5650 rears in-wall speakers. After hearing advice from what I'll now call novices, I tried painting the grill of one of them (the R-5650) to match the wall paint color (my wife's preference). In retrospect, I was the dumb one in not realizing what it would do to the fabric backing of the grill. Hence, I now have one grill that is poorly painted (could only put one bad coat on). In contacting Klipsch, they told me that they no longer make that grill style and they did not have any left in stock (pretty amazing to me since I had just purchased them a month previous) - so I'm pretty much SOL. Question 1 - would anyone know where I could still get a replacement grill for a R-5650? Question 2 - would you still suggest it a good idea or not to paint the grills? Question 3 - if so, recommendations? Step-by-step directions? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks! Brad
  6. Newbie here! Thought I'd ask the experts about their recommendations. I've been a Klipsch fan ever since I visited a stereo store as a teenager and heard the original Klipshorns corner units. I've got a system of in-wall Klipsch speakers (R-5800 fronts and R-5650 rears) with the RW-12 in a family room that sound absolutely fantastic (for in-wall speakers). Now I'm in the market for a satellite system for the basement to compliment the 50" plasma. I'm interested in the Cinema series by Klipsch. I heard the Cinema 6 series and, honestly, was underimpressed, albeit that they were in a large retail store room and very well may not have been set properly (fronts only and sub wasn't working properly). I'm mainly interested in the Cinema 8 series that has better satellites (RSX-4), but want to know how much of a difference upgrade (I know there would be) the Cinema 10 system would be with the RSX-5 satellites (same center) and the RW10 compared to the RW8 sub. This is a relatively small space so I probably don't need the extra power of a 10" sub, although no doubt it would be better. I guess I contradict myself. Anyway, and recommendations? Thanks, Brad
