  1. With all due respect to Alex and Moray I still believe any 2 channel system can benefit from distributed bass via multiple subs. There is a ton of information out there discussing these benefits. I'll simply say, from my experience, adding two subs to my system has benefited whatever speakers I've used including my CF3s. Again, the issue is not more bass, only better bass.

  2. I use two subs with my CF3s. I don't care about more bass but I do care about better bass. Two, or more, subs can help any two channel system. It's a shame you passed on those CF4s.

I am hoping its a delay, not a pass, the seller has limited availability, so I plan to try and jump when the next window opens.

My living room is close to tolerance max already. I have Quad ESL63 in Arcici stands, a yard square dipole sub, Forte's, Heresy's, two sets of small two ways, Signets and Clements, and two large center channels, RC7 and I think its a clements. and much misc. The CF-4 would get squeezed in for a comparison, then some stuff would have to be sold or put in storage.

Nice collection of speakers. I love Quads.

  3. My CF3 version 1s just got demoted. Sad I, know, and I do love them. I also have two pair of version 2s. For the time being I will do some cabinet refinishing and decide if future upgrades are warranted. I have biamped them using my Bel Canto Mono Blocks and a Parasound amp as suggested. So, what has dethroned my Epic speakers? Believe it or not a pair of Sony speakers. SS-M7s to be exact. Eventually the Sony's may move to another system and the CF3s will move back to my main system but I'm not sure yet how this will all shake out.

  4. Read a bit more into this, I believe I might finally have this right-

    1) Outlaw. Will not be able to have seperate controls for the horns & woofers. Excellent sound quality though where seperate controls my not be needed.

    2) Keep the current receiver and add an intergrated amp. Will not have seperate controls for horns and woofers. Better sounds quality and power than current amp.

    3) Keep current receivers and run two amps with level control to allow seperate horn/amp. control.

Now do I finally have it :-)

Of these three options I believe number 1 is your best bet. Typically when you bi amp speakers you use 2 different straight amplifiers along with a preamp. If one of these amps does not have level controls you would need a seperate crossover unit to control those levels. So to recap, if you need a tuner get the Outlaw or another 2 channel receiver. If you don't need the radio function a receiver gives you then go with an integrated amplifier like an Onkyo, Pioneer, or Yamaha. I think these are the two most economical solutions that will still give you great sound. Of course you can spent as much as you want and go in any direction you want but that's a whole new discussion.

  5. I would stay away from a HT receiver. I have had Yamaha and Denon models and never liked them for 2 channel. In fact since I use CF3 version 2s in my HT system I'm speaking from experience. I would look for a nice integrated amp. Vintage Sansui amps sound great with Klipsch. I believe both Yamaha and Pioneer have new integrated on the market. If you really want a receiver look at the one made by Outlaw. It gets very good revies and has a cool retro look. I'm not sure about the pricing on these but I believe they are all quite reasonable. One last thing if you are adventuous look into some of the less expensive IcePower amps. I use Bel Canto mono blocks on my version 1s and they kick butt together.

  6. For what it's worth concerning the Epic CF line. I have owned KG4, Cornwall, and RF7IIs. To my ears the CF3 is better than all those models. Unfortunately Moray and I are not alone in this assessment as prices remain high and availability low for Epic speakers.

  7. I paid $500 for my version1s plus shipping expense. They are in good to good plus condition. My version 2 models were traded for but I have about $300 each into them. They are both in good plus condition.
