  1. I have RB-35's as my mains and they're turned on their sides with the tweeters on the outside. They sound GREAT to me! I don't think it would pose any problems.
  2. Thanks Richard for posting some good stuff there, I appreciate that. Let me throw some more info out at you. My HT room is 19'x20' approx 3500 cubic feet, carpeted, and open on one end to the family room. I will use it for 75% movies & 25% music. I definitely want a sub that can handle the LFE in movies, but I also want a sub that does pretty well with music. I did like the features on the velo like the RC w/ the 4 modes. I'm ready for some more feedback. I'd like to hear other opinions as well.
  3. Hey guys...what are your opinions on velodyne subs in general and in particular the DLS-4000R? I'm just about ready to pull the trigger on it, and would appreciate your input. It's within my budget and I feel it might be a good start-up sub for myself until I"m ready to graduate to a better system. Let me know if you think there's a more worthy sub in the $600-$700 range. Thanks for the truth.
  4. Thanks Steve_L for the info. It was very helpful. I will play close attention to the levels and the placement. I believe my receiver does have a good room equalizer...it has pretty much everything else. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to put it through its paces because I need to purchase a sub before the big install. What sub maker do you like? oldbuckster...you bring up a good point. Does carpeting absorb much of the sound? What sub would you purchase today if you were in the market? Thanks for your comment.
  5. Thanks guys for your knowledgable responses. I'll look closley at your suggestions. To: TheEar...what do you mean when you say "take a front firing if you want to integrate in a project" Is there a most important spec to look at when choosing a sub? Thanks again for all you help. I love this place!
  6. Thanks Steve for your reply. You ARE good at spending other peoples' money. Aren't we all? The RSW-12 & 15 is out of my range this go-round. I have heard a lot of good things about the SVS line. So I shouldn't be concerned about the firing direction of a sub? Does carpeting play a part in the low frequency sounds? What's the most important spec, if there is one, on a sub?
  7. I received my first copy of HT mag in the mail yesterday and saw your theater. I'm really impressed ! Congratulations to you and your wife. You should both be very proud.
  8. I just bought a pair of Klipsch CDT-5800-C's. I wish I could comment on them, but have not been installed yet. I have heard that they are outstanding though. I'll let you know.
  9. Hey guys...can you please explain the difference between front firing, down firing and rear firing subs. I have a 19'x20' room with wall to wall carpet and I'm looking for a sub for mostly movies & some music (about 80%-20%) I want a sub that will consistantly do its job, but I don't want to take out a second mortgage either. I guess my budget is aproximately $500-$750. It's the last piece of my HT puzzle, so I'm anxious to decide. I'll listen to all suggestions. Thanks in advance, Meatball Mitsubishi 52" DLP 1080P, Onkyo TX-SR803, Klipsch RB-35's, Klipsch RC-35, Klipsch CDT-5800's, & sub TBD
  10. Thanks guys for your thoughts. I'm going to do some serious sub research and might just possibly have to raise my budget on a sub. If you have any other suggestions...bring em on please. I'll also search the forum for some other ideas.
  11. Ok...I need help with the last and probably the most cruicial piece of the puzzle that I am going to call "MY Home Theater" Of course, it's the subwoofer. Let me give you all the specifics and I would love for you to make suggestions like only you guys can do. I moved into a new home recently and have a family room that is 19'x20', with an opening on one side to the kitchen. It is carpeted and has five windows that will have curtains eventually. My HT will be for 75% movies and TV & 25% music. Now, let me tell you what I have so far. Mitsubishi 52" 1080P DLP...Onkyo TX-SR803...2-Klipsch RB-35's...1-RC-35...2-CDT 5800's I need a sub...or as someone suggested to me...2 subs? Anyway, I'd like your well-respected opinions here. Oh yea, important info to report, my budget is between $400-$600. I really don't know very much about subs except that they are essencial in a truly great HT, so any advice will be much appreciated. If you'd like to address the 2 sub possibility, please do. Someone told me to look at the Outlaw subs. I'd prefer quality over quantity if that helps you. I have a very large entertainment center that will hold the TV, RB-35's & RC-35. I expect to put the sub in the corner of the room to the right of the entertainment center. I hope that's enough info and not too much to bore you. I've been a member of this forum for just a short time, but have found it to be a great place for honest opinions, good info, and decent people. Thanks to all who read this and especially to all who respond.
  12. I know you can hardly wait to get them hooked up, but it'll be worth the wait...I'm sure! Enjoy
  13. Your secret's safe with me. I saw the 5800's on-line for $235 each. I think I'm going to purchase them this week. Thanks again.
  14. Thanks again for your input. I'll do some more research and I'll see if I can get an audition with both centers. I think I'm may go with the CDT-5800's for the rear surrounds and I was wondering where you purchased yours? Did you pay retail?
  15. Thanks again for your input concerning the CDT's. I just may spend the extra $ for the 5800's because I want the best sound I can get for the rear surrounds. It's important to me to get an opinion from someone who has heard them first hand. In your answer to my question regarding which to use...RC-35 vs RC-62...you stated that if I had the RF-35's use the RC-35, but I have the RB-35's, does the same hold true for those? I know the RC-35 works well with the RB-35's but will the RC-62 work even better? I can't wait to get the whole system together, but I must admit that I really enjoy the learning process that goes along with it. I can tell that everyone who participates in this forum also enjoys the the entire process, especially the end result. Thanks to everyone who gets involved.
  16. Hey, thanks for the great review! It was a big help. I could almost hear the sound coming out of your system the way you described it. This is also my first real HT and I'm getting very anxious, but I want to do it right so I'm taking my time. I'm using the CDT's for the rear surrounds. I'm starting off with a 5.1 system. So do you think the 5800's are better for that application or are the 5650's appropriate? I'm probably 80% movies and 20% music. Also, I was going to purchase the RC-35, but for the few extra bucks, should I purchase the RC-62? It is the replacement of the 35, isn't it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
  17. Thanks for the reply. I realize in-wall and in-ceiling's are probably not the most popular choice in this forum, but it's what I choose to do in my HTPC (home theater pleasure center). Do you know what the difference is beween the CDT-2650-SC and the CDT-2650-C is? I know the SC is labeled surrounds, but does it really matter which one you would use? I believe I'm going to go with the CDT-5650-C for my rear surrounds, but I'd like to know about the others. Definately let me know what you think when you're up and running! Thanks a lot.
  18. I was wondering if anyone has any sound advice on Klipsch in-ceiling speakers. I was looking at the CDT-3650-C, the CDT-5650-C and the CDT-2650-SC for my rear surrounds to go with my 2 RB-35 fronts, and RC-35 center. Still shopping subs. Thanks for any help you might have.
  19. Fish..thanks for your input. Your setup is amazing!! I'm trying to keep my HT invisable, yet impressive. That's why I went with the RB's. The entertainment center we bought is beautiful and the the in-ceilings are pre-wired. I may upgrade to the RC-7. I think that makes perfect sense, especially with your comment about it's use in video. I'm kind of stuck with the in-ceilings for now, so I'm looking for my best option. What kind of sub would you recomend in the $400. to $800. range? I'm thirsty for the knowledge. Thanks
  20. Hello all. I'm looking for some solid advice on putting together my home theater pleasure center. I already have a Mitsubishi 52" 1080P HDTV, Onkyo TX-SR803 receiver, and two Klipsch RB-35 bookshelf speakers that will go into our new enterainment center. I'm looking at the Klipsch RC-35 center and two Klipsch CDT-5650-C or CDT-3650-C in-ceiling speakers for the rear. I was wondering if I should consider upgrading the center to the RC-7? Does that blend well with what I have already? Also, should I consider the CDT-2650-SC for the rear because they're considered surrounds? I have no clue for the sub yet. The room is 19'X20' with one side open to the kitchen. I'll use it for 80% movies & TV and 20% music. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully one day I'll be able to return the favor to someone else. Thanks!
