  1. I imagine you are right about the low power. It's a 6v6 push-pull design, and I am playing it in a big garage with a high roof, but still I thought it would be louder.
  2. I have just gotten a yard sale Voice Of Music 812 amp and preamp from a console recapped. I am burning to use it with the Heresy speakers I have not long ago got to working again. But the amp puts out 4 Ohms, speakers rated at 8. Sounds good, but not all that loud. Is this because on the impedance mis-match? Is this harmful to either the speakers or the amp? Can I do anything at the amp or the speakers to rectify the mismatch, or do I need to? Thanks.
  3. Hi. I've opened up some Heresy speakers I found at a thrift store. My intention was to install some capacitors Mr. Crites sent me, but I think they are in worse shape than I thought. First of all, I don't seem to be getting any sound out of either tweeter, one of which is clearly not an original part. I disconnected the woofer and squawker on each speaker just to make sure. I would hear the tweeters if they were working, wouldn't I? Second, one of the woofers sounds good and has lots of travel when I push it with my finger tips. The other one sounds bad and seems frozen up. The surrounds around the paper cone seem to lack flexibility. What is up with that, and what do I need to do about it? Thanks for any help. I'd really like to hear how these things are supposed to sound.
  4. Thanks for all the affirming replies. They gave me the resolve to drag the big Heresy speakers inside (they stay in the garage and play loud music, usually) and experiment. I hooked the audio output form the TV into the Sonic T-amp I usually use with these speakers but I couldn't get any sound. I can't figure out why, maybe not a strong enough signal, although the T-amp will amplify an Ipod just fine. Anyway I rigged up a connection to an old Marantz 2230 receiver, and everything worked fine and sounded great. The Heresy pair is really beat up and ugly sitting next to the TV, but maybe I'll use my Totem Staaf pair for TV speakers, and hook the Heresy pair up to the stereo. I use a Jolida tube integrated, and I hear that the Heresy speakers respond well to tube amplification.
  5. I'm almost scared to ask, but is anyone here doing it? Any opinions or advice? I'm asking because I've just acquired some Hersesy speakers that I really want to put to use, but I don't have an HT rig now, and I don't know if I want to get in too deep.
  6. I have an old (1980) set of Heresy speakers I am thinking about using in a home theater system. They are fantastic rock and roll speakers, but that's another story. I have a nice Sony TV, but no home theater system at present. What speaker positions would be the best place to utilize the Heresys? Do I need to match speaker efficiency thoughout the system? I've got some Totems and Spendors in 2-channel applications that I might could use, and I've got a nice old set of EPI 100's sitting around. I don't think any of that stuff is nearly as efficient as the Klipsches. If I get modern Klipsches to round out the system, what should I look at? The room is average size, and I doubt I'll be playing the system real loud. I'd like to match the quality of the Heresys, but I don't want to spend a ton of money, and I'm not really a big TV or DVD watcher, except sports and music.
  7. Mr. Nauck- May I ask how you intend to remove the black paint? I have just acquired a set of HBB Heresy with shabby cabinets, but I don't think I'm handy enough to veneer them - I was thinking of staining or repainting. CG
  8. I just took the grills off of the Heresy speakers I picked up this week, and I see that the dust caps at the center of the woofers are sort of on the concave side of flat, not convex inside the concave basket of the woofer, like most speakers I have seen. I did an image search and some of the pics show a flat cap, bust most look to be convex. Is this something I should fix? They sound good to me, but I have no basis for comparison.
  9. As I read all the Heresy posts, I want to add that I picked these up at a little thrift store supporting a church for $10. They wanted $7, but I thought a little extra wouldn't hurt. I guess I need to go back and make a contribution when I'm in the area!
  10. Yes, these have K-77M, K-55V, and K22EF with the Type E balancing network. I am just beginning to figure out what all that means, but I cracked the backs to take a look. These are some speakers! I don't think I have ever heard any Heresy(s) or any other old Klipsches before. I've been playing them loud, in a big tall garage, hooked up to a little t-amp and a cheap walkman cdp. They might be the best rock and roll speakers I have ever heard. I read that they lack bass, but I think they do a pretty good job from at least the A string on up on the electric bass. I haven't listened to any double bass things yet. I guess I'm going to have to study up on refinishing. I'd just as soon they weren't stained black, but I sort of gather that since they are, they'll have to stay that way.
  11. Hi. I was referred here from AK, so I joined to ask some questions. I picked up a pair of Heresies today at a thrift. Like I needed another pair of speakers, but I was familiar with the name. They are HBB s/n 100U258/9. Down the left side the letters P and L are stamped. Cabinets are scuffed but not torn up. They were inspected by John Goynes? and tested by M.U. Bradford. I'd appreciate any information about them. Are there any tests or inspections I should perform before I hook them up to an amplifier? I read on this forum about replacing the crossovers. Is that necessary? Thanks, Chris
