Hey all, ok, finally got my replacement 64 as I have been working for the last 5 days to support my HT/HIFI addiction[
]. This one arrived looking much better, box not smashed up and no obvious signs of driver flaws, fingers crossed. Put on Eagels HFO to test out the center and "break" her in a little. Took some pics , and yes I know I need to build a new center stand, nothing in the shops will fit this beast..hehe. BTW, the pics are a bit fuzzy, its not really, just my new cam and me haven't shaken hands properly yet and the Pj is on freeze too. -
Hal, tough luck there, just go buy the 62 or 52 locally, thats what I would I do.

rolo, welcome to the forum.
Its a hard thing to decide in the showroom, if you can get them to audition in your home you are much better off.
I own the 83's so can only comment on them. To me they are a phenominal speaker for both music and HT, I do alot of both...60% music/40% HT. The 83's are easily driven by a mid level amp where as I have read that the RF7 likes to have more power behind it. However, I just added a 200wpc x5 amp a week ago and the improvement in fidelity and overall sound especially the mids and bass control is staggering.

They play "Take it to the limit" on Farewell one. I for one think that this concert is one of the best available for content and especially sound and then video.
I really like the way they do their solo stuff, its even better performed by the Eagles than when they were on their own. That band is so talented it makes me sick, so tight! Especially love the "Mighty horns", but thats just me, love a good horn section.
Speaking of excellent video and sound, check out Boz Scaggs...absolutely top notch sound and video. Never knew he was a blues guy either till I got this DVD. Love the song" Running round blue" from his old horn band days.

Hal, OK, I just looked up that 550...just what I thought..a salesperson who may not no what they are talking about. That 550 has an aluminum dome tweeter and 88db sensitivity which is even worse than your Yamaha! Back to blown tweeters again?

Hal, I have never heard of the Proficient. The 62 is a great speaker, personally, I would mod your stand if its not too much trouble otherwise go for the 52. The center is so important in HT, you really want as much range and punch from it as you can get. I never realized how much I was missing till bought the 62.

yes, its that simple...Emotiva provide all the wiring diagrams you need and if you get stuck, just come here and ask.
To be honest, all the "bells and whistles" can be nothing more than confusing anyway and really, who actually uses more than a few of them.
As Fish said, this thing will kill any receiver even close to its price.

Hey Hal, welcome to the forum!! nice to see you here. The RB81 or 61 would work, nice speaks too especially the 81. Also notice that the 81's are matched to the RC62....how nice.

The Rf7 by far..the 83 replaced it in the current lineup. Not sure what the 7's go for now, I have seen lots of prices, an online search should help there, make sure its an authorized dealer.

here is how I did it(first time round)..
1).receiver(cheap used one, upgrade later, can be had for $200 for really decent unit)
2) rest of budget on mains....Rf82, RF7 perhaps
3) RC62 center..most important speaker for HT use by a mile!
4) depends on how lacking your bass is at this point...you decide sub or surrounds

Hi Arky, yes the MPS1 is bought by the channel, not sure about the other amps. You can start with 2 or 3 channels and add more as budget allows all the way to 7 channels which will be nice when the HD Disc stuff start putting out true 7 channel discrete lossless pcm, supposed to be an exact copy of the master soundtrack, now that I can't wait to hear[

I have to recommend Emotiva, I received my new amp (Mps1) last Wed. and have now put about 35 hours on it so its really starting to open up, the difference from when I first got it is staggering. Yes, I too thought all this burn in stuff was hocus pocus but its totally true. I made some comments earlier about Michael Buble' CD sounding like garbage and now have to take it back, ok, its far from perfect but it now sounds quite fantastic. The difference in sound from a few days ago is like night and day.
The build quality is exceptional with excellent components being used. Not that i know much about electronic components but the guys at Secrets of HT and Audioholics certainly do and they think its first rate stuff. Links here:

Products available go from small monoblocs to Pro grade HT stuff and also a new 2 channel amp for you 2 channel only guys. Also of note is that you purchase the MPS1 with anywhere from 2 to 7 channels and add more channels later if you wish.
Suffice for me to say that both music and HT sound really excellent, its a huge improvement over my Yamaha RX-V2500 which is now being used as a pre/pro untill I order my new Emotiva Pre/Pro later on.
The very best thing about these products is the value for money is exceptional. I should add that I have no connection what so ever with this company, just very pleased with such an excellent product and think they deserve your consideration.
