  1. here is my curve ball.... i don't have the cash right now to buy any designer wire, but i want my system to at least make noise.....so i found some spare wire in one of my bins... M27500-12SM2N23 in a nut shell...it's Mil spec wire, 12awg twisted and shielded. copper with tin plating. teflon insulator, 2 layers. not the best option, but it will work....
  2. Thanks! I appreciate the complements! I get all the zip ties, latters, buddy blocks, etc from work. I've been an avionics installer since I got out of the USAF in 9/1/2000. That's all I did for 15 years, route, tie, clamp, terminate, and continuity check. I've aquired lots of "extras" over the years. I guess that's why I do my own crossovers, speaker wires, power cables, and interconnects. My next ET center should look better. Less "stuff" to deal with. One big change will be all my power cable connectors will be 100% EMI protected. As it stands now, some are just plastic and don't do anythingfor EMI.
  3. did you say glass? i had a glass ET tv stand and i used clear packing tape. i know, i know...blah....blah....blah.....EMI issues.....static electricity....i know....lmao! i used the tape to hide small wires up and down the stand beams and on the edge. some of the other edges i was able to tuck them away and tape over the gap. if i had any "static" issues, i didn't hear them in my tiny apartement. i also only had a 3.1, ps3, Wii, and cable box....so the amount of cables was not that bad.
  4. i think i'm the only one....the older stuff can sound "better" due to the age and break in period. if all you have owned are receives that are 10yrs and newer, you might not notice. i don't think there is anything "wrong" with the current Denon, i simply think its more of the new digital parts vs. the older analog parts. if you like 2ch the most and still want HDMI, would a HK be out of the question for you? i've heard those, in fact the people that had 7's hooked up to them didn't have the same ear fatigue (it was still there, just not as bad) as other receivers. i couldn't give a suggestion on which HK to pick, just that receiver + klipsch = good 2 ch. if it were me, i would first look for older receivers (stick with Denon to be safe). the good news, most older receivers are super cheap. if you really want HDMI, but you don't like how any of them "sound" to you, try a vintage receiver (as in wood for a case, i know of 1 guy on here who sells them) and get a HDMI converter box. yeah it won't give you "perfect" video, but it shouldn't hurt the sound you love. http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011406&p_id=9994&seq=1&format=2 http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011406&p_id=5971&seq=1&format=2 it can get expencive, but either of these will work. just convert your TV HDMI and leave the CD player analog alone. oh, what do you use to listen to 2ch? cds? what outputs does the player have?
  5. i guess i should have checked my C.L. for ads! there are 2 on there! doesn't help me much, one guy wants $25, the other $100 plus all his movies, but he does have the latest hi end one ($800 msrp)
  6. would anyone happen to know even a remote value on the HD-A3? i'm not even going to hook it up in the new set up. i have a bunch of good movies for it too. i know you need pics and more info, but i'm almost under the impression this thing is a "throw away item". if anyone knows if people are still interested in this please let me know.
  7. i put some arrows and descriptions. looking at this now, i still think it's a Rats Nest....i'm hoping my new efforts will look much better. the biggest help will be, No 7.1, No ethernet cables (Uverse changed it's box), No Wii component, switched to HDMI, No sub outlet switch box (X10 device), NO HD-A3 player. deleting those items alone will cut those cables in half! changing the Wii will only change the White to black and help it blend in.
  8. From the album: HT gear

this is how my ET center was with all the devices i had. my new set up will have much less cabling and items!

  10. looks good. you are right, one mistake, 100 zip ties just died! lmao! i have tons of them so it doesn't bother me. if i had to buy them at Harbor Freight to Frys, or where ever, i would be more cautious.
  11. i thought if you have a 5.1, those surrounds need to be 90degrees to seated position? i personally built speaker stands because in my living room, at that specific height they sounded the best. i experimented with simple 2x4's and small platforms at different heights before i went through the trouble and built a nice stand. i have a 3rd part person do my testing. what was odd in the entire "testing" was moving the surround as much as 6" either up or down, it gave an effect of "turning them on/off". what we did was lower and raise the sides first until they sounded good, then the rears. once we got all 4 playing nice, that was the height we left them at. i forgot the actualy measurment, but the rears were more than a foot lower than the sides. (looking at the pic, the rears might have been right at a foot or maybe a touch less)
  12. these are more current. i believe it stayed like this for quite a while. i have moved and my HT was nothing but boxes (for several years). it's since been unpack into the new house and it's back to a 3.1. the cabling is half way done, just the power. i'm going to have to re-do some of my custom cables and shorten some lengths. i haven't bothered with the HDMI's becasue i'm going to wait until that nagging feeling of "I NEED a 65" TV" gets to me. once it does, i'll wall mount, and route cables through the wall to the ET stand, just like in the pics. i also haven't bought any more/new speaker cables. the Furutech cables are now too short and i need to buy more. the Canare 4S11 will work just fine for me. the white strips are "latters" in aviation. they are teflon strips with zip tie slots in them. i attached them with a counter sink screw and small spacer (on the head) on most, then just a button head on others (zink screw heads).
  13. i guess it depends on what you have available. i personally have an Oak ET Center, well, it's more of a TV stand. i attached "latters" to the back of the cabinet and then routed the cables with zip ties. i have no idea how anyone not in aviation can get such "latters" though. the basic routing issues... keep power wires and all signal wires seperate.... if you have to cross power and signal, do it at 90 degrees.... if you have to route them paralle, keep them 2" apart (if possible)... build custom length harness for entire system! (OUCH! said the wallet!) audio/video devices, find/build 100% emi cables, those are actually pretty cheap... power cables, either buy or make some type of shielded/EMI protected cables.... speaker wire, at a minimum have a twisted wire, if EMI is an issue, go with Star.... wow, that's an old pic....that's when i thought it would be a "great idea" to bi-wire! lmao!
  14. sure. i don't have the program up and running, but as soon as i do, i will post them. no, they are just a CAD design i thought of. i looked back and i have 4 different designs, or at least 4 different models with different names....lol i think i was going for a poor mans Palladium that is easer to build. the tweeter i think was a PE choice. i don't remember. i did make the cut out 130mm x 130mm so i assume i had something in mind. i had a ton of emails with Bob so i would have taken his advice on the tweeter.
  15. holy cow! ok, i didn't want to derail the topic....to me, anything past 7 speakers is just nuts. now if you are daddy war bucks and you have a 10,000sqft dedicated room....yeah, sure go nuts.... i guess you can use the phrase.... "if you build it, they will buy it!"
  16. ok, so i have to ask this question, the UMC-1, UMC-200, and XMC-1 all don't support Atmos, so what's the processor / receiver that does? actually, just processor, i won't buy a receiver again. well, let me re-phrase...what's the processor that's most common to Klipsch folks that supports Atmos...??? (Nismo, i did read your sig, i see your Denon)
  17. Thanks. I had to work around your horn! Lol!
  18. just got an email from Knukonceptz....they will officially claim they wire is 99.99% or 4N. that's pretty good, especially at that "lower" price point. MP is 99.95%. now the debate statement....will you "hear" the difference....lol! that Furutech 4t wire i used and now i have for sale is 99.999% or 5N. oh, they did tell me their purity is .001% which would make them have a 99.999% cable, but they won't make a claim to it. their OFC is 101% of IACS and they told me Ultra Pure copper tops out at 102.75% IACS. or you can just use tin foil or coat hangers....lmao! bottom line, they have good wire for a good price.
  19. lets see if this works.... it did! ok, i don't have the dimensions on this, but they are there....just hidden. once i swap hard drives and get my drafting program up and running i can supply any and all needed. i know on this design i gave up on having a grill. i don't use them so i figured why spend the money one some to cover these up. Assembly1.pdf
  20. nope, that link is right. it's their standard wire that is CL rated. they come twisted, nothing drastic like 12 per foot, more like 3-4 twists per foot. still a better option for EMI over flat. since it's less than $3 for 100ft, i think its just a touch better choice. then again, it's what the OP thinks....
  21. lol...i didn't even catch that. (post #28) Tin isn't a bad thing. i personally don't like it for the mains. i don't think Tin plated sounds that good on the RF-7's/RC-7. that's just on opinion though....that and $5 gets you coffee at SBux!
  22. yeah, it would work. i personally would not. i would have at least a twisted wire. it's $2.97 more. get that one and be done.
