  1. Hi Frzninvt.. the problem is, I do not care about HT that much... and my tube amp occupies front center so a Heresy center would not fit (I run a front projector). In addition, believe it or not, the pans are better than a "matched setup" I had previously (I think proper positioning with respect to room boundaries helps a lot). Room aesthetics and keeping out of the way of my two channel system is the priority (I do not use the Heresies for 2 channel)... so no room for Heresies all around (if I could, I would.. they are cheap enough). Thanks for the advice... and I will see what comes out of the pilgrimage.
  2. My interpretation was he was gonna sell me four RB-15's for one hundred bucks :-)
  3. So I am not much of a home theater purist.. I went back to a Klipsch setup and sold off my old speakers (Axioms, which were ok... they were small.. but nothing special). I now have Heresy's and an Academy center and I am quite happy. However, I still need four surrounds (I run 7.1). I am not too concerned about timbre matching with the front, and would prefer small speakers due to space considerations. I also seem to prefer direct surrounds vs ambient surrounds. Surrounds are powered by an Anthem MCA 5 (fronts are via an HK A402 integrated). My options seem to be: 1. find some KG 1.x speakers. However, these seem rare and even on ebay cost a fortune to ship. 2. try something like the RB-10. The size is nice, but they seem like I could not cross over to the sub at 80hz. I think moving up to the RB-51 may be too big. I understand there was an RB-15 which may be ideal. 3. try something like the Hsu HB-1. These are cheap, are more full range, and do have a horn tweeter. However, the build quality seems cheap compared to the RB-10. Any suggestions? Anyone wanna sell me four RB-15's cheap :-)
  4. I think headphones are really tough to recommend. For example, I am not a fan of Grado's, though many people clearly love them. I have owned them long term, and they were just not musical for me (more hyper detailed and flat). There are the Alessandro versions which may be more to my liking, but I have never tried them. The cans that have worked for me are the Shure e2c (cheap in ears) and the Sennheiser HD600 (available for under 200). I also recommend looking at an external crossfeed circuit to make the headphone listening experience better. I picked up a nice external crossfeed for 100 bills. My Klipsch setup these days is a pair of Heresy's and an HK A402 integrated (*mint*) so if the sound of that appeals to you, you may want to check out my recs :-)
  5. Thx scooter, I wish I could, but I just do not have that kind of side room. The walking corridors are down the side of the theater, and I want to have side surrounds that are in the 8" or less depth range.
  6. I have a pair of Heresy II's and an Academy for HT. I am curious about what is a good surround recommendation (I need a wall mount side surround pair, and I have rear surrounds in a bookshelf). I would like to know the preferred surrounds for these speakers. I see SS-1 and RS-25 surrounds on the used market; are these appropriate? Thx!
  7. I built a custom pair of subs based on the Adire DPL12. They are sealed, and crossed over at 80hz. I also have eq on the subs for pretty good room response.
  8. My recollection (circa 1979) was they were harsh, particularly compared to the Cornwalls and Klipschorns. I do not find my Heresy II's harsh at all (and that was part of my point). I am not sure if the design change helped, whether I have heard too many metal dome tweeters and that has put things in perspective, or the fact that I have a lot of subwooferage behind them now is rounding out the bottom end.
  9. Well I picked up the '89 vintage Heresy II's. I would not call them "mint", but good shape and the cabinets will refinish nicely (all corners/edges good, with minor imperfections). I picked them up with an Academy center channel for a little over 800 cdn (about 720 US these days?). The center is mint. I want to replace the binding posts on the speakers though. One of them is broken off, and, well, why not! Does anyone know of a good replacement? Is soldering required (not a big deal... but I would need to clear some space for them)? Any idea if these are suitable: http://www.takefiveaudio.com/mall/shopexd.asp?id=533 Beyond that, I am really enjoying these speakers. I had an Axiom home theater setup. It was small, out of the way, and did the job. However, I wanted more dynamics and got a bit nostalgic (first speakers I bought at 16 were Cornwalls.. then went to Klipschorns... then, yes, I strayed :-). Some things that surprised me: o I always found the Heresys a bit harsh. These are anything but (I am driving them with a modest Anthem MCA5). I wonder if the metal domes so prevalent today have now rendered the Heresy to being a relatively warm speaker! I will also try them with a Yamaha CR2020 and HK930 I have. o They are not as good at low volumes as I expected. They need to be pushed to come alive. They remind me of maggies here. o My main speakers are 'stats (Martin Logan CLS IIz's). They provide a good contrast (and I like that!). To me the stats are far more transparent. They image better, and instruments seem to float (I have some dpl12 based subs and custom crossover/eq to make the stats full range). On the other hand, the stats compress around 95 db and it is noticeable. The Heresies just open up more. Hearing a cranked Hammond B3 on these things is well, just plain fun! o The Academy center is great. It timbre matches well (better than my Axioms, which had identical tweeters.. which I find weird). I also found moving to a center with good bass response has been a huge improvement. Concert DVDs have a lot more realism. Thanks (sorry for rambling... primary reason for posting was the binding post question).
  10. Espguitars... I am new here... and I can see the communication issue being annoying. However, there are some companies I want to talk to, and try as I might, I am totally unable to get someone on the line to assist. It amazes me, but I think with our disposable culture, and low margins, it has become the norm. I think Klipsch is crazy to host these forms (maybe crazy like a fox, but still crazy :-). Most forms degrade to people with an axe to grind, and it says something for Klipsch products that they encourage active communication about their products and services. Even here, someone from Klipsch has stated you were not treated correctly, and they will work to fix that. Annoyed or not, in this day and age, I think that is pretty encouraging. A big reason why I am returning to the Klipsch fold (after a few decades away) is to get away from the flavour of the month stuff and back to a company with good solid design who stand behind their product.
  11. Going off of the pics, and the seller's description, my impression is simply a clear sticker with white lettering versus a harder clear plastic/lucite. The letters are not script either. It is what I would call the "standard lower case block lettering".
  12. Thanks guys.... confirmed what I thought. I agree it is not a big deal, but it is part of the nostalgia for me (I owned Klipschorns and Cornwalls back in the 70s and early 80s... and I feel like returning to the fold again). Oldenough... how did you come across the plates? Any chance you want to sell a pair :-) I was going to contact Klipsch as I understand they may sell replacement plates. Thx again... good to (almost) be back :-)
  13. Serial numbers are: 8906430 and 8906443. So they appear to be 1989 vintage. I doubt that is much help (I really like those brass name plates :-)
  14. I was looking at buying some Heresy II's on the used market. I do not have serial numbers, only pictures. One thing that struck me as odd was the Klipsch nameplate is just a clear sticker. I have only seen the brass plates (or whatever they are). Is this standard? The seller (second owner) says they are original. Should I assume the first owner stripped them off? Thx.
