  1. I have a 24x12 basement (concrete with carpet) that is my dedicated home theater. I am running a Velodyne CHT-12 right now but am having the ich to upgrade. The velodyne is rated at Amplifier 400 watts max/170 watts RMS and is a 12" forward firing woofer. I want to stick in the $400-$500 range and it can be new or used sub. The rest of my system is listed below. I am running buttkickers for the low stuff, 5 to 20 hz but would like a sub that can dig that low cause my velodyne right now lacks below 25hz. I have been out of the subwoofer research as of late because I just upgraded my video equipment. Thanks!!
  2. I just got my 7.1 system up and running and I think it is AWESOME. I have for the front RF-82, center RC-62, side RS-52 and my rear RB-61 all hooked up to an Onkyo SR-805 receiver. I was running a sony 5.1 receiver with just 5.1 before and adding the rear rb-61 really really added an experience along with the upgrade in the recevier (more amps and better processors). On movies which have alot of surround it envolopes the listener better. I just watched my bloody valentine last night and it was freaky hearing stuff cracking and creaping behind the listener coming from the rear speakers. I really didn' have that before the 7.1. The side rs-52 are just perfect in the setup. I have them about 3 feet above the listener and pointed down about 10 degrees, they really are crisp and dispersive. Hope this helps. Cheers!
  3. how does the onkyo sr805 receiver compare to the newer onkyo's ? I heard the 805 had better amp's and sound processing? Did the newer receivers lose this beefyness?
  4. sweet! Thanks for the updated that the bt77 will hold the 61s!! I am about to order a pair. Thanks!
  5. I snatced up an APC H15 for about $99 bucks a while back. I think it is a good unit for that price. I bought from Tiger direct.
  6. here is a good thread talking about 7.1 placement of speakers. http://forums.klipsch.com/forums/t/116894.aspx My rooms is 24x14 with my couch being 9 feet from the rear wall. Thats why I went with direct speakers vs dispersive for the rears.
  7. Youthman, those look like they will workbut they say the will only accomadate only 11 inches deep speaker. I just measured the rb61 and it is 12.25 inches deep. What do you think? "Handles a speaker from 5.5" to 11" Wide, up to 11" Deep and up to 20" High" I am setting up a 7.1. RF82,RC62, RS52 for sides and the RB61s for the rears.
  8. Did a search and did not come up with alot. I am trying to mount my Rb-61's to the rear wall about 6 feet up and therein the problem occurs because the 61s do not have a key hole for mounting. I do not mind drilling into the speakers to put a keyhole bracket but will that work? What has everyone do to place the rears on the wall? Thanks!!
  9. I did not get a chance to check out the 42's but I do have a pair of 52s paired up with the rf82s and rc62s and the rears wrap the sound around me very well in movies. I do not use them for music surround, just 2.1 for music. I have the 52s set up about a foot back left and right of my seating position in a room that is 13x25, seating around 13 feet. They sound incredible, very smooth and have a great enveloping sound with movies which are great for action flicks with guns and fly overs. Overal I am extremely please with them. I have a 100x5 sony 5.1 receiver which I plan on upgrading to a onkyo 805 for 7.1 in the future. I will use some rb61s for the rear 7.1 channels. Good luck!
  10. Jm, The DTS layout is what I would do in my situation as I have a door in middle of the rear wall so the rears would have to be spaced apart like the diagram shows. Thanks!
  11. Thanks for the comments. Looks like I will be doing a direct firing speaker, most likely the Rb-61 or the 81. Thanks!!
  12. Hi everyone! First time posting here. I have a theater that I am setting up and already have for speakers: RF-82, RC-62, RS-52 and now I am planning for 7.1. I am using the RS-52 on the sides. What speakers should I use as the rear for this system, RB-61, RB-81 or another set of RS-52? The room is 14x24 and seating is about 8-9 feet from back wall Thanks!
