  1. Clock is ticking. Three more days to use them. I agree with JB. You may not notice much difference between amps. What are you using for a preamp? You could try the USP-1 and see how that changes things. You'd still have some cash left over for other items in your setup. With Emobucks and holiday pricing it's a good time to purchase. Good luck in the fantasy championships. WHAT TO DO? WHAT TO DO? WHAT TO DO?...I ended up winning all 3 championships....my gut says just say F' IT AND BUY THE XPA1's....but head says that I don't need an upgrade right now(or just buy the UPA1s). I'm using the UMC1 currently....
  2. I have UMC-1 as my pre. I am probably going to sell it once the xmc-1 comes out....I belong to the emolounge, but there aren't many people over there that have klipsch. I figured I would get a better answer here. From your advice, I will probably go with the upa1s or the xpa1s(depending on well Vick does tonight...have 3 fantasy champions on the line with about $1200 in winnings)....
  3. I wouldn't think the UPA-1s would be significant enough upgrade to warrant an upgrade itself. Or am I completely wrong? The XPA5 is 200 watt and UPA1 is 200 watt.
  4. I'm in 3 fantasy championships today and I'm in line for at most ($1120) if I win all 3(doubtful). I"m thinking of upgrade my amplification for my 2 channel listening. I'm thinking of upgrading from an XPA5 to either an XPA2 or XPA1s(I know which one my wife wants me to go with), but I thought I would post a message on here and see what the people on here think. I have $100 in emoBucks as well...So I can get an XPA2 for $609 shipped or XPA1s for $1558 shipped....
  5. I wonder how the RF-7 IIs sound compared to the original RF-7s. I have a pair with the DeanG mod. I noticed on the website that the crossover has been upgraded in the new model and the so have the drivers.
  6. Great advice wuzzer I like the idea of upa-1, but will have enough headroom to handle the dips the rf-7 have? Good sale and good point but I think the upa-1 would handle the 7's fine im running a XPA-3 "rated at 200wpc also" with my 7II's and havent had any clipping problems with movies or music although when they tested the xpa-3 it actually had more power on the table then rated not sure about the upa-1 . I think I'm going to go the boring/responsible option and stick with my XPA-5. I think I'm just going to use my $100 emobucks on 2 power cables(1 for my sub and 1 for the xpa5).
  7. I'm surprised nobody has suggested going with the xpa2...There holiday sale is out and it is $709-$100 coupon = $609. Great advice wuzzer I like the idea of upa-1, but will have enough headroom to handle the dips the rf-7 have?
  8. I was only really playing it that loud to test the limits of the xpa5...with 200 watts/ch, I figured it should be able to handle it.... Trust me....the last thing I want to do is damage my speakers...I'm looking for more dynamics(and low-end) than volume level. I usually listen to movies at only 75dbs(calibrated). I never had a problem with movies(than again, I never tried pushing it much louder than that)...
  9. I'm awaiting the emotiva xmas sale with my $100 off coupon from my umc-1. I'm looking to upgrade my front amplification. 1. Would the xpa2 be enough power? 2. Would 2-xpa1s just be complete overkill? I can say this. I've been running the xpa5 and absolutely love it, but I have clipped it before. I actually never understood what the term really meant until I was rocking some ACDC(~115+ dbs...it may have been even louder than that...it was ear bleeding loud) and heard this crackling sound. I immediately turned it down and haven't turned it up that loud since.... I'm about 60/20/20 movies/music/gaming
  10. Must be your browser, picture shows for me in my original post, your reply and also this reply. The picture' URL is http://www.petitesweets.com/wall_wart.jpg I didn't realize what it was...I might actually have one of those laying around....I'm sure I have something that used something similar from the early 90's...If I don't find one....I'll surely take you up on your offer for it...
  11. It's just temparary....I'm looking for other solutions(onkyo/integra, marantz, denon, xmc1, etc), but the 30 day return policy is going to be up soon and I need to act quickly....
  12. I've decided to send back my UMC-1 and going back to my HK AVR630(for the time being). The HK has an Switch AC Outlet, but I don't really want to plug my XPA-5 directly into it(plus Emotiva said the XPA5 should be plugged directly into the wall without the use of a power strip). The XPA-5 has a 12v 3.5mm trigger input on the back(which is what I was using from the UMC-1).....I thought about buying the Emotiva's ET-3 Trigger module, but they are currently sold out and was hoping for a cheaper solution than $45. Is that something else I can do to get to to work. Didn't know if monoprice(or others) had something that would just go from AC to 3.5mm adaptor or something.
  13. Well...it seems that the marantz sr5005 was the only suggestion I got. Anybody else?
  14. I've read this often about the UMC-1, but no one goes into details. Are these bugs so little they're not worth explaining? Here is a low down of what mine are: - An occasional loss of sound when flipping channels are sources-->solution-->either have to flip the input or do a cold boot.- - An occassional video source issue...for some reason it gets stuck in a 480i mode sometimes(though it's really only happened a few times)-->solution-->cold boot. - DTS Master loses volume level to center channel-->solution-->????no idea...I just try to turn the other channels down and turn the center all the way up... - sub eq doesn't seem to work...this is not a huge issue for me because I wouldn't use them anyway... - some of the codecs don't seem to work correctly(i.e. PLII: music, etc)....Not an issue for me because I never use them anyway.... - Their auto EQ systems(IMHO completely just does not work correctly-->It's call EmoQ). I use AVIA and a sound meter(along with a tape measure and my ears to set it)...this again is not a deal breaker, but it should work correctly... Don't get me wrong, I think Emotiva a good company, but they just may be a little over their head at this point....Not trying to be a Hater or a Fanboy...it's just how I see it...
  15. I actually haven't had much trouble adding the BETA updates to it(as I do know how to follow directions []...maybe I was lucky or some people just don't know how)....My problem is that I figured it was going to be released last June(thought it was going to be sitting on my doorstep when we got back from our honeymoon....yeah...10 months after that, I got it and it was almost completely useless to me). Fast foward 3 more months and the wife keeps asking me why I paid $700 for something that constantly has to be resetted. My patients is running low("Happy wife, happy life").
  16. I'm thinking about returning my UMC-1 and getting a AVR or another processor instead to run as my pre/pro. I'm going to use the $700 I get from returning it to buy something. What should I get instead? I do not have a problem buying used or b-stock. Things that I love about the UMC-1: Great Sound OSD is amazing seperate EQ for each channel seperate xover point for each channel Ability to set each input to seperate video source/sound source/EQ band bass management bass extention(bass seemed a lot more "punchier" with the umc1) Things that I dislike or wished the UMC-1 had: bugs, bugs, bugs wish it could independent video adjustments for each input(similar to the eq) wish it iPod had support wish it had sirius support wish it dynamic Audyssey(though I've heard some people like it...some people don't). wish it had media center capibilities(i.e. internet radio/ streaming possibilites) wish it had HD Radio support. no front panel inputs dual video outputs internet firmware updates. Here is a brief outline of what I currently have: RF-7s(deanG upgrade), RC-7(deanG upgrade), RS-7s, emo xpa5, emo umc1. Before owning the umc1, I used a marantz sr8400(sold) and hk avr630(still own, but using it in our excercise room). Any suggestions will be helpful. Companies I've considered, but never narrowed to model numbers: onkyo(integra), marantz, denon, hk
  17. I currently have my RF-7s set at full range and my RC-7 set to 60 hz. I was wondering what everybody else has was setting there's at? I'm running an Emo UMC-1/Emo XPA5
  18. TrueHD and DTS Master HD is the same quality through analog as it is through HDMI. Welcome to the world of Klipsch....
  19. Well.....it's 'buggy', Emotiva is 'supposed to be' release a new firmware update that will fix some of the issues that it has, but they haven't released it yet.It seemed to set my top 3 bands really high and with the horn, it accentuated it the highs even more. I ended up tuning them down into the negative range...
  20. I'm trying to get a good starting point to configure the 11-band EQ on the UMC-1 for my setup. Obviously EMO-Q is pretty cr@p and I was thinking I would post on here to see if somebody else would list their EQ setting for me to get a nice 'starting point' to configure my to ear...
  21. Got the very same message on 3/10....such ashame....
  22. When I read about them, they have pretty good reviews, but to me...it has white van written all over them....
  23. These are all the negative this I was thinking....but it's kind of hard to tell if they are any 'good' without actually hearing them....
  24. My brother-in-law was looking at these on craigslist and wanted to know more about them. I did some google searches and didn't find much. He said, "They look like yours". It's a BIC America Acoustech (2)HT-75-fronts, (1)HT-6-center, (2)HT63-surrounds, and (1)H100-sub. The guys wants $700 for the package. I'm not familar with the brand, but they are horn-loaded. Any ideas?
