  1. This is a long shot.........

I'm studying physics at MSU and starting to think about where I'll work this coming summer. Something a little more resume building than moving boxes would be nice.

If you work for a company that hires interns or summer help in a science/tech field, lemme know :)

I live out in St. Charles

    Thanks,

    Alex

  2. Looks sweet. What are you going to power it all with?

Also, what I said about the reference stuff. The last thing you want is to spend a thousand or two, hear a three thousand dollar system, and be pissed you didn't fork up the other thousand. Called buyers remorse. You'll be happy with yours until you hear a better one. Everyone has to deal with it. Unless you go to the top of the chain, which few people can financially do.

I started with modestly priced rf-15's on sale at ultimate electronics for $400 and within 9 months time bought dean g'd rf-7's for triple that. It's addicting

A good general rule is to spend as much as you can, because lets say you buy what you have listed, and then decide you want rf-63 mains, and then want the matching center, and then want more subwoofage, and then want matching surrounds. You just spend way more money if you "upgrade" instead of buying stuff outright, because you lose so much in resale.

Have fun building your system, and read up on room treatment, it'll make more of a difference per dollar than any source, kryptonite infused platinum alloy speaker wires, or power conditioner out there.

  3. I had my lightning fry some of my gear plugged straight into the wall in an area I lived for 19 years and had never heard of anyone losing electronics.

Now everythings in a tripp lite surge/conditioner

My surge tells me the current draw, and I can't imagine pulling more than 12. I have a 550W projector, 500W computer, denon receiver,1500W pro amp all on the same line, and it never draws more than 12 amps.

    Yes, ohms law is violated

  4. No.

The signal starts as digital, because it is digital on the disc. You can send the digital signal to your avr via optical/spdif where the avr converts it to an analog signal which is useable by speakers, or the dvd player can do the digital to analog conversiona and just output the analog to the avr, where it continues on.

  5. you will be happy with it. Just don't audition the upper reference stuff and expect to still be happy.

I had rf-15's and thought they were as good as music could possibly sound until I got my dean g'd rf-7's. Then I couldn't believe I lived with the rf-15's. It's all in your head

I might go with a bigger sub, that'll be the first thing you upgrade probably. Might as well get the bigger one first and save some money. Also, if the system is primarily for movies, I'd go with at least the c-2. Having bigger mains than center is not very ht, where the center carries most of the load.

Klipsch doesn't make a bad product.

  6. I have 4 mach 5 audio mj-18's. (18", svc, 8 ohm) most people use them for infinite baffle setups, though I have them in a 32 cubic foot sealed box

These are relatively low excursion drivers (24mm peak to peak), but still will move more air per dollar than any other driver in the world

    $300 obo for all 4

shipping from springfield, MO 65807 (a lot, pickup will save you a hundred or more) I have all the original boxes

  7. I only listen to music two ways; I sit and listen carefully to records doing nothing else but listen, and I play instruments (guitar, clarinet, violin. piano, sax, and trumpet...) in about that order of descending proficiency. I actually spend twice as much time playing instruments as listening to records. I count all of it as listening to music.

I was practicing snare drum over 2 hours a day for almost 2 years.... not much music there, straight fundamentals at least 75% of the time

  8. Over the summer I listened to music at least 10 hours a day, commute plus assembly line job. Back in school I'm down to about 2 hours a day.

In 2 weeks I went from 70 down to 15 hours. Hope the poll covers everyone pretty well

If you think you listen the MOST, let us in on your sweet job. Truckers and retired guys should own this.....

  9. Keith, come to MSU. We'll buy a house and combine forces. It would be rediculous. We need to keep working on Ryan and Scott though. They'll be Klipschers by the end of next summer for sure. You know first hand about my persuasive ways.

BTW, weekend of the 14th, we should congregate here or at semo. My bar is almost complete, spent $200 a couple days ago. New favorite drinks,

Captain Al- equal parts, captain, amaretto, sour, and cranberry.

Gin Sin- 2 parts gin, 2 orange juice, 1 lemon juice

Blue Motorcycle, equal parts gin, vodka, rum, tequilla, blue curacao, sour, 7 up
