  1. Upgrading my speakers once again and going fully active so I have a few items for sale 2 pairs of Crites CW1526C 15 inch Woofers in gently used condition I have had these for about 10 months and they have seen very little use. They are drop in replacements for the k33 but with the cast frame ---SOLD--- Second is a pair of alk universal crossovers that I built. It is missing a set of the 2.2uf caps other than that it is complete. I'm selling it for less than the cost of the parts. This was used only for a short time until I built alk ddb extreme slope crossovers. -$300 SOLD I will only ship to the CONUS all paypal fees are included in the prices
  2. Thanks for the help. Would there be a better design for this configuration?

  4. I'm replacing the crities woofers in my dbb's with jbl 2226j's 16ohm version and need a little help modifying my current crossovers woofer section. My mid is a jbl 2485j on a elliptrac and a jbl 2404h for the tweeter. The current crossover is the standard klipsch 400 and 6000hz I have included a schematic of my current crossover configuration
  5. Right now I'm using a passive network which is a variant of an alk universal. The woofer section is changed for the dual k33. I will have to modify it for use with the dual 2226's. I'm still going to use the 2242's but as subwoofers and tune them to 25hz as jbl does. I'm seriously considering going active 3way instead of passive as I have enough amps, I would just need an active crossover maybe something like the behringer dcx2496.
  6. When I molded both the 2226 and 2242 in winisd from 50hz on up the 2242's only gain 2db over the 2226's. Is it worth the total bottom end rebuild to use the 2242's in a 3 way vs the 2226's. As I have not heard either jbl how do they sound compared to the k33?
  7. The total volume of the current bass bin is 12 cubic feet. I'm using jbl 2485j's for mid on an elliptrac horn with jbl 2404h's covering the highs. The current crossovers are at 450hz and 5600hz.
  8. Been a while since I have posted as life(3&5 year old) have kept me busy. I'm thinking of swapping out woofers in my dbb's for either a pair of jbl 2226j's or 2242's. If I go with the 2226's I could use the same bottom cabinet just change the port length and crossover woofer section. If I go with the 2242's I would have to build an a whole new bottom plus crossover. My question is does anyone have any experience with comparing a jbl 2226 or 2242 vs a klipsch k33. I already have a pair of jbl 2226's and 2242's so I would only need another pair. I'm mainly looking for better bottom end definition and a little more kick in the 60-120hz range without using subs. Any help would be very appreciated.
  9. price lowered to 575 plus shipping
  10. New projects require new funds so I'm selling my backup receiver as I have an onkyo preamp. The Onkyo TX-NR818 is in mint condition and has only been used a few times. Iupdated the unit to the latest firmware that fixes the onkyo 24p bug. The unit was purchased last year from an authorized Onkyo dealer and includes everything that the unit shipped with (Box,remote, manual, calibration mic, and original receipt.SOLDGo here for full specs http://www.onkyousa.com/Products/model.php?m=TX-NR818&class=Receiver&source=prodClass SOLD
  11. where would you rank drivers with phenolic diaphragms?
  12. On the response graph it looks like both driver are down 6-10 db above 6000hz. Wouldn't some sort of eq be required above 6000hz if using the fatial in the eliptrac?
  13. DJK, I know you have heard many driver combinations. What would you recommend either a 2way or 3 way setup and what horn/driver combinations crossed at 600hz from the bass bin to the mids.
  14. In the never ending quest of speaker upgrades I have decided to switch up the top end in my dbb's. Right now I have a jbl2485j mated to a fc260 wooden tractrix horn covering from 400hz to 5800 then a jbl 2404 the rest of the way. I'm pretty happy with the combination, but I always want to try new combinations. I was thinking of going to a 2 way setup with a faital pro hf200 on an eliptrac horn and raising the crossover point to 600hz. I have owned two pair of titanium drivers(jbl2445 & evdh1a) I did not care for the sound of either in a 3 way setup, but have heard great things about the faital. I preferred the jbl2485j to both the titanium drivers I owned. Those who have had a 2way and 3 way setup or used the faital driver what are your thoughts. Would I be better off sticking to a 3 way and trying out a jbl2440 or 2441 with the eliptrack or going the 2 way route with the eliptrack and faital. Thanks in advanced for the help.
  15. tron legacy is bar none the best movie for surround on bluray followed by avatar.
  16. I used to be a skeptic about 3D to until I bought a jvc rs40 and watched 3D in my own home on a 120 inch screen. I'm still in awe with the picture. I think 3d works best with a bigger screen size. My brother has a panasonic 65vt25 and there is no comparison. 3D is much better on the projector.
  17. Fogot to add Midrange: jbl 2485j on gregs fc260 wood horn Tweeter: jbl 2404h My main concern is the changes needed in the lowpass section in say an alk universal network to work with these woofers in parallel
  18. Well I have been gone a little while and I'm finally getting back to finishing my cornscala dbb project that uses two eminence kappalite 3015lf woofers. I was going to go 3 way active, but the location of my equipment makes it impossible (Had to hide from 1 &2 year old). Something like an alk universal for the dbb but using two eminence kappalites instead. Eminence has a design on there website using 2 of the kappalites along with all the parameters. http://www.eminence.com/pdf/Kappalite_3015LF_cab.pdf Any help in the endevor would be greatly appreciated
  19. Well I finally had a chance last night to really open these up. I friend came over and brought his xti 4000 to provide a little more headroom to the speakers and I was estatic with the sound of the speakers. I like mostly hard rock and metal and do these shine with it. I could not keep my self from turning up the dial. With most horns speakers I have had in general the louder they go the more I wanted to turn them back down. With the dbb's I just kept turning the dial up not really paying attention to the volume the louder they went the better they sounded without a hint of being strained. I'm very glad I went with the eminence 3015lfs. They provide plenty of punch with out sounding boomy or strained in any fashion There is also something special about the jbl 2485 combination with gregs fc260 talk about smooth.
  20. i could not tell you for sure as I don't have a set of k33's to compare them to. What the 3015lf's offer over the k33 on paper is lighter weight, 33% more excursion, higher sensitivity, and more power handling. The sensitivity is important and more max excursion especially when using a larger format midhorn. When I mentioned the kreg jig I was just trying to help out I didn't mean to offend. Plugs look fine it just takes less time with the jig and you screw into the plwood at an angle which makes for alot stronger joint versus screwing into end grain.
  21. Yes, if i were to build them again, I would recess that middle horizontal panel in order to use one baffle. I also would bring the baffle out flush with the top and sides to make a decorator' version. This would add a slight amount of volume to the cabinet for lower tuning if wanted. Let me know if the baffle scratch up I posted is slightly different than what you and I spoke off on the phone. There is some slight variations to what i posted depending on what the goal is.....as far as tuning. I want to make a point. This mod with the triangular ports and to accomidate another woofer I think is a great idea. But do remember the original plans and goal was to port "just like a cornwall" using crites or K33's. Some may want different things. jc jc The plans you drew up are what I used. Also the cost is higher using the eminence kappalite 3015lf vs the k33's. You can buy 2 used k33's for the cost of one of the eminence drivers.
