  1. i dont have either one now - i got the itch and forte II are hard to get in great condition at a decent price of course - and the KG 4 i found at a good price considering shipping is included and the condtion looks good - or i have to be patient and just wait in hopes of finding a good forte II pair - i would hate to buy something now and then a new forte comes out next year - i know what are the chances of that - pretty slim - - i may have to wait till next year to see what comes out unless i find one before then that works for me - price and conditon
  2. HI - i just seen this - i know this is a year old - but by any chance do you still have these up for sale ? thanks - Claudio
  3. i was afraid of that - your right - i do like the forte II my friend has - i havnt heard them much - hes busy moving things around now - i did see that they go low which i want and i dont have room for many speakers so i want to choose a good set and thats it - i have no problem with my amps - i have a Emo xp5 new version and an QSC GX 5 which really rocks out - i have a pair of 82,s and KG 3.2 - i am will to part with the 82's but cant seem to get rid of the KG - i did the bob upgrade and they are in excellent condition - shipping i am afraid is something i have to just deal with and pay for - trust me on this one - they have to be shipped - if i find a pair - but i am ok with that if i can find a very good condition pair - whats getting me is also the fact something new is coming from Klipsch very soon i think - and i just happen to find what looks like a great pair of KG 4 - so i am confused what to do now - i dont have room for both forte II and KG 4 with out getting rid of everything i have now - and even then it may not work in my space they are both huge speakers - wide
  4. i am not sure what your Kenwood unit is - or what it can do - but if you are not connecting them correctly - it will damage one or the other or both - speakers and amp or AVR etc, - you have to really try to use a amp which can handle 4 ohms - you cant match 4 ohm speakers to a an amp or any unit that can only do 8 ohms - it will run hot at the least and shut down - blow the amp - and can even damage speakers - you want alot of power clean - no distortion going to the speakers -
  5. So your Forte say 4 ohm in the rear ? what do you mean if set to 8 ohms ? you can change your ohm setting ? i know 4 ohm pull more from the amp - thats not a problem with my amps - they both can do it - i am just confused seeing different numbers - on the Klipsch site - they all say 8 ohms - now i am looking at a pair of KG 4 - in what looks to me to be great condition - i just cant remember there sound now - and how much bass they gave out etc, - those also say 6 ohms on website but 4 ohms in the rear of the speakers -
  6. yes your right - everyone will say something different and what ever works for you in the space you have etc, - you have to find the right match - so the chorus is up there with the forte - ok - i am keeping an eye out for the forte II - i happen to like the larger horn also its the shipping that will cost alot - that sucks - but what can you do - i will wait till a good set comes around - if in very very good condition - i wont mind the shipping cost
  7. and i also seen now 4 ohms on the KG 4 models - which i normally seen always 6 ohms - Klipsch site says 6 ohms - makes you wonder - if they were tampered with - or were they made with different ohms ? i have a pair of KG 3.2 - 8 ohms - but i seen replacement drivers for them - made for them - but are 4 ohms - what would happen if you were to add the 4 ohm drivers - ? what difference does it make - other than its pulling more amp power etc, - but would it work - or sound any different - - i never know what makes it a 4 ohm speaker compared to a 8 ohm speaker - is it the crossover that make its its final ohm rating ? i got new ones form crities - i was the first who asked to have it for the KG 3.2 speaker - i know they may not be so sort after - but they sound very nice and handle my amps well - no issues - i cant find myself getting rid of the KG 3.2 - i rather get rid of the 82s -
  8. ok got it - if it has the larger mid horn - its a forte II - and other is forte - i got the itch but cant decide yet - depends what they come out with next year but for some reason - i dont feel its going to be anything really great for music like the older ones - but never know - among the older line - where does the forte and forte II stand - is the chorus line as good or better - that looks like nice model also - similar in look and the specs handle a very high peak - lows dont hit as low as the forte models would you say the fortes are on the top and others below ? i also love the KG 4 model - a bit smaller - i just happen to find those now price is not bad for a nearly mint looking condition - making it harder to decide - but i only have room for one pair - and i do want to wait to see what new models may come out next year -
  9. Hi - i been looking more and more at the forte speaker but i am confusing on a few things maybe someone can clear it up for me - on the Klipsch site - it dosnt show pictures with out the grill so cant see the difference there - the specs show the forte to have a 12 inch passive - vs 15 for forte II - other than that - what other differences are there ? i seen pictures of forte - and forte II but someones i see a smaller mid horn and others have a larger mid horn - i cant be sure which is which or if people are describing them correctly - my friend has a pair - they say forte II in the rear and the Large Mid horn - alot i am seeing say forte II also - but show the smaller Mid horn - either they are saying its forte II and its not - ? i just want to know whats the difference between the two models - so i know what i am getting if i find a decent pair and price - what benefit would it be having the larger mid horn compared to the smaller mid horn - specs seem the same in the Feq. range and power handling - also - i seen pictures of Forte crossovers for sale - they say 4 ohm - on the klipsch site - they show 8 ohm for both models my friends shows 8 ohms - does anyone know for sure the facts on these models so i can look for the correct pair - thanks - i am thinking of trying a pair if nothing good comes out next year from them - i want to try going back to the good old days and give my 82s to someone else to enjoy -
  10. Yes i agree - it confused me too - i see so many different model numbers - RF - FR 26 28 - 82 - seems like they just change the same numbers in reverse and use the same letters reversed also - makes you look twice - i had to go see them in best buy to make sure - what they are - dont get me wrong - they are ok for your avg person who just wants something etc - over priced for what it is - i am sure they sound good also - but feel plastic the cones etc, feels too cheap to me for the price - and not much cheaper than the REAL Reference line - well i hope they go back to there roots and make a great new upgraded line or bring back the RF 5 so i can buy them now - or make a Forte III - maybe i get those - i guess thats what happens when its no longer Klispch - but Klipsch Group - time will tell -
  11. yeah it is Fun -- i just wish i had the room - to keep a few sets in another room - and just swap them out as i want to hear them - that would be great - i always wanted to hear a set of KG 4 - i remember them from a friend over 20 years ago - i just cant recall the sound now - but i also have a friend in my building who i got hooked on Klipsch after he heard my 82's he returned his Polks and got them - and then got a pair of Forte II - added the upgraded Bob Crities crossover and tweeter - and hes loving it - i would love a pair of those also - but i can only replace one pair before getting another - which is better than most can do - so i cant complain really - this is why i been saying i wanted to try a 3 way horns - if Klipsch comes out with a new model - but its not a must to have a 3 way - dosnt bother me 2 way or 3 way etc, - as long as its Klipsch and has a Huge Horn i am good
  12. Hey - thanks - i actually seen those also - i am going to stay with my 82;s for now - i really have no issues and they are fine - unless i have problems with them - i will look for a different pair model or used set - but i think i can hold on till i see what if any new models Klipsch may come out with in the future - hopefully 2015 - its really just got a itch - no real reason to change what i have - just to hear what i may have been missing or are missing - thanks again - i am always looking on Ebay just to see - what catches my eye -
  13. 63's are freakin huge compared to the 82's.And we all get the itch to try new things. You a rent the only one. I have new speakers in my living room every two months. It's sickening. i cant go to bigger size speakers really - if i had a home - thats a different story - but i am in an apt. - i am not far from my gear - i dont have the room to really space them out too far or away from the wall etc. - i say the 82's are the most i can do in size - since i have another set near them also - and a sub - but going higher and wider is not going to do me any good - actually a littler shorter would be better for the horns to be right on my ear level when i sit back on my recliner to listen - i lay back - i do notice when i sit up - i am in a different zone - i hear it differently as when i lay back - but yeah i think i am not going to rush to anything - i have no real problems or reasons to do so - i hope they bring it back - i get my chance again - but the price i am sure - cant beat what i paid for my 82's at the time - i know it - the best buy models cost more than what i paid for mines new !!!
  14. yes thats a nice set - and i did purchase my KG 3.2 from ebay - long story - i had originals KG 3 - i put in storage - long story short - one was missing when i wanted them back - i already purchased new crossover and tweeter from Bob crities and then didnt have the speakers to use them in - its a custom made job so cant return to Bob - ending up buying the 3.2 they were in great shape - so i just cleaned shinned them - added the new parts and enjoy them - but not all people keep there stuff like you and me - mines look brand new at 20 years old - the 82's also just as good as new - with my luck - i seen pictures of bad looking speakers - i dont want to do any work to them - and the shipping costs are going to be high if they even want to ship them - and i understand - local pick up is the best - but thats out of the question for me - buying brand new is always great - ship it free
  15. i actually like the RF 5 - if i only knew then - the RF 83 is way too huge - i heard those - good but not what i am looking for - the RF 63 maybe - but again still too big and i never heard them - i would think its fine - the RF 62 - seems to be in the area that will fit best - but at this point - unless i find a great deal on the RF 62 II - or else i wait - i will keep my 82's till i see what new models may come out - i have them on the pro amp now and are a bit better in terms of brightness with the pro amp - the Emo amp - very good but deeper and warmer till you hit about 3/4 way on the volume - i like them both - get bored of one then switch i checked Klipsch site and no RF 5 II - but they did make a RF 3 II - strange they didnt do the same or maybe the Classic was there version of II i get confused lately with the models they have -- and not enough details of the changes between models - sometimes you see a different version of the same model but specs show no difference - so how would anyone know why is there is RF 82 and i see a RF 28 -- etc, - like the RF 5 and RF 5 Classic - no diffference but the color maybe ? i would lke to read the changes - like a bigger horn or larger tweeter - etc, - i guess i am just itching and want to experince a new model - but till then - i am very good with the 82's overall cant complain - they can really rock out either 2 channel or HT use - i do both - but mostly 2 channel music - i guess i feel i like to experince the RF 5 horn etc, - which isnt going to happen now unless they bring them back
  16. thanks - your right - its all about comprise and making it fit in the HT living room - and i have to say - i need to make it fit also in my space - my main reason was for music and HT also - the RF fit the bill there and they are not that bad and do a good job at both - its an comprise for both - but the older lines of course are great - if i had to go down that road - i have to get rif of both my RF 82 and KG 3.2 and just get a pair of Forte II something alone those lines and thats it for the fronts - but i also do HT - not sure how that would work out with center - etc, and the rest of the 5.1 speakers - i am ok for now - i am just getting the itch lately and the more i am learning about the differences - with the RF 5 etc, - i would have loved those insteady - but unless i go the used way - thats a done deal - i will see what the future brings maybe they bring it back like they did the RF 7II - i would be interested in them
  17. Ok - i am a bit confused on the models now - RF 5 - is no longer being made - and the RF 5 II ? i dont find that speaker on the Klipsch Website - the only current models are the RF 52 II - etc, - those are the only current models in the RF line that i see being made - is everyone talking about the RF 52 II ? if i have to pick a new speaker today based on what is besing sold from Klipsch now - i would pick the RF 62II - i would love the RF 7 II - but thats too huge of a speaker for my space - wont work or sound good i belieave because i dont have the space to space them correctly - from what i am understanding now is the Older model RF 5 - outperforms the current RF 82 II - they brougth back the RF 7II - maybe they will bring back the RF 5 II ? etc, - i will wait for something along those lines before getting rid of the 82's -
  18. i missed my shot at the RF5 - unless i find used pair - but i rather buy new if i can - always a problem with used - shipping is the hardest problem and finding in Very good Conditon - i am not complaining about the 82 that much - they are good for the money and can hang in there with power to space - i cant say much else since i havnt heard othes - besides my KG 3.2 - which is not considered a sort after model - but i have to say - its a sleeper model - sounds very good - and not expensive to find on Ebay etc, - if you need more bottom end - a good Sub would fit right in with those - or with out it has a decent amount - beside the KG 4 a friend had before - and Forte II a friend has now - - along with the 82's which he got after hearing mines - he has heard the 62's and says there were right there sweet spot - but they were out of them - couldnt find and just took the 82's that were in stock at the time - in NYC - mahattan - i have yet to find any place who carry Klipsch other than the lower end line - which i dont care for - so i can never really get to listen to them first - that bothers me that no one carries them in Manhattan - where you can find anything they say - i cant seem to find anything i am looking for
  19. The only time I've seen this to be a significant issue with Klipsch is with the cheap Icons which turned into the "Reference" (not II) that you see in big box stores. You've got these woofers that do their thing up to a point but then stop, then there's this frequency gap or something, then sitting on top is this super bright harsh aluminum tweeter that does not blend together at all. Unless you are experiencing this then I wouldn't worry about it. Yeah i agree - those are alot lower end -- thats fine for alot of your Avg. person who really dosnt know much but wants a decent sound - i dont like the fact that they changed that name and copied the color - makes the Real Reference look cheap - since the cheap one look like the better ones - anyway - i dont mind that - if the price was less also - i cant see saving 150 and get the cheap low end models - all these changes started after Klipsch sold out and no long owns Klipsch - its Audiovox i believe who owns Klipsch now - which is fine as long as they keep it alive and kicking -
  20. Ok so i am wrong in thinking that the lower crossover would send more Feq up to the tweeter ? the RF 62 would have been a better match to my space - but at this point - i am not going to give up the 82's for the 62's unless i get a really great deal on them - i never heard them - but a friend has and i trust him - when he said it was the much smoother and more balanced - i believe him - he ended up with the 82's because at the time they didnt have the 62's and he just returned a pair of Polks which he didnt like at all - he heard my 82's and just went with them - and dont get me wrong - they can rock - but i had to work with them - given the space and the lack of highs i feel from them compared to there bottom end - which also can have some issues that need to be addressed - again this will vary depending on the space - placement etc, - i am in an Apt. so limited on how i can place them - reason the 62's may have been the better choice at the time - now its 8 years i had them - i enjoy them - at the same time - i wouldnt mind a change - i just finished listening to them - and had the itch to swap out the wires and run the 82's off my pro amp which i had for a long time before - i used to use a Marantz 7002 AVR - then added the QSC GX5 amp for them - that was a huge improvement and last year - i went to Emo - with the XP5 and ther pre amp UMC 200 that was another huge difference - i hvnt used them with the pro amp for over a year - i am excited to hear it again with the pro amp again - so i am wrong about the cross over then ? the lower crossover point means the horns tweeter get less information ? i though it was the other way around - unless a great deal came along for the II models - at this point - i rather wait for the next upgrade Klipsch comes up with - i hope its soon - my friend also got a pair of Fortes II and did the Bob crities upgrade tweeter and crossover - he loves it - i love the look of horns along with the sound of course I think that we are just getting caught up in terminology and I have misunderstood you. You have two driver sections lets just call the two woofers one section and they run in parallel and they act as one. So the woofer section plays up to 2000 Hz. and then the tweeter (the horn)takes over at 2000 Hz and it then plays up to its limits at lets say 20KHz.. The two sections cross over one to the other at that chosen frequency (2000Hz.) the crossover point is the dividing line between one section and the other (woofer and tweeter). Does that make sense? So in theRF82 ll the crossover point has been lowered from 2000Hz. down to 1400Hz. and that means that the woofer stops working sooner and in the old design and the tweeter also starts working sooner as well. The tweeter is now being asked to work lower down, 600Hz lower down than it did in the RF82. When you say you will wait for a better speaker to come along just keep in mind that better means larger. Going to a smaller horn is a backwards move not a forward move and that Is why I suggested the RF5 ll then the Chorus Forte Quartet and CF3/4 as they all have large mid horns. There is a very good reason why models like the CF4 still sell used for sometimes over a thousand dollars or more. I am sorry if we got at crossed purposes (my fault) with terms and I hope that this sorts things out. Do yourself a favor and listen to some of the older speakers as I don't see too much future in the newer (smaller) models they only have lower efficiency and smaller horns to offer. Best regards Moray James. yes your correct - i agree with that - i used the word better speaker - but i didnt mean it that way - better can be alot of things to different people - the reason the 62's i believe would have been a better choice for me and my space - is the smaller drivers would be balanced more with the highs - i agree a larger horn tweeter would be nice - i dont have the room for those older models - i do if i get rid of my current models - both 82 and KG 3.2 - i do have a sub which is sealed 10 inch - works for more movies etc, - i use direct for music and the 82;s can hold there own - dont need a sub - even the KG are nice with no sub - i am just curious what comes out new down the line - so the RF 35 and RF 5 would be a nice choice to try - to replace the 82's ? i have the orginal 82's - or would a current 62 II do the trick if given the right price
  21. Ok - so i am correct in the crossover thing - from reading any specs - a lower crossover number means more goes up top to the tweeter - which is what i perfer it seems - i cant say about other models since i never heard them myself - since the RF 5 crossover at 2500 - vs the 82 at 2000 -- this is what is confusing me also - just looking at those numbers - you would think the 82s would give off more top end highs - but everyone is saying how much better the RF 5 is - and i wonder why - i mean theres many reasons things sound different - is it the Tweeter - horn combo on the RF 5 which gives it that edge ? - last night - i plugged in the 82s to my pro amp - as compared to my Emo AMp i been using the past year or so - i have to say the pro amp does give it a different sound - which i like - its not as bottom heavy deep with the pro amp till you push it and then it screams both top and bottom - but in a good way - the Emo has a tighter grip on the bottom - i go back and forth and enjoy both amps - i will wait and see what comes out new in the future - also the RF 35 - thats another model from the RF 5 ? what the difference there - i mean more or less they look the same - a few inches here and there - in the size overall -
  22. At least in my opinion, a lower crossover point is better, assuming your high frequency driver can handle it. It usually sounds more smooth and natural. Cymbals, female voices, the high pitched snap of the skin on kick drums, acoustic guitars, etc., all sound better with as much as possible coming through horns. Once again, my opinion. I think music sounds more like a pro audio live setup and more exciting like this. You're largely limited by potential damage to the high frequency driver, go too low and the thing will get fried. I'm finishing up a SEOS project where the compression driver is crossed over as low as 950 hz. Looking forward to hearing it. Speech and acoustic guitar should be killer. If you get into ribbon tweeters sometimes you can cross over even lower. Those sound amazing on music. A piezo under-bridge pickup on an acoustic guitar on these sounds really sweet. ok so i am correct then that the lower crossover would send more infomation up to the tweeter etc, ? my 82's are at 2000 -- the newer models are at 1500 or 1400 - not sure which one is the 82''s or 62's - i believe those would give off more detail on top and less bottom end which would sound move LIve in your face and balanced - as compared to mines with are at 2000 now i looked up the specs on the RF 5 which everyone says is better etc, - and i notice the horn is larger - i like it - but i see the crossover on that model is at 2500 - so that throws me off now - if thats a higher crossover - how does it sound so much better on the top end - from what everyone who has them say - i never heard them - i feel like the 82's are more tamed on the top end -
  23. Biggest difference and best example I can tell when hard rock gets sent to both RF-7ii's and also RS-62ii's is the cymbals and hi hats. Basically the RF-7ii's sound like a deep CRASH. That same material though on the smaller tweeter and higher crossover of the RS-62ii can sound like a more shallow PSSHHH where the higher frequencies are more obvious. Some here called BS when I claimed this elsewhere, so it may be BS, fair warning. i know what you mean - but i havnt heard either of those speakers - so hard for me to say excatly - alot does have to do with room treatment - i dont know but alot of users pictures i see with all there Klipsch speakers all over the place - and alot of other things all over the place - i cant judge from that kind of setup because too much in the way and cant be balanced or proper sound that way - but thats me and who is to say what sounds good to them - you can only do your best with the space you have and choose the correct speaker based on your space etc, - i believe the 82's may be a bit overkill in my space - i got a great deal on them brand new at the time and didnt think they would be overkill till i got them started to use them - i realized i needed to work the bottom end and get more top end out of them - - some may say the RF 7 were too bright - i never heard them - but i would take a chance for sure if i had the space for them - i would most likely love them - in my space - i realize its useless and cant never get them to sound right - just too large - a 3 way horn from Klipsch is imressive - how it sounds - can be another story - but i would love for them to bring some back in there new lineup - in a compact size and affordable - would be great
  24. Ok so i am wrong in thinking that the lower crossover would send more Feq up to the tweeter ? the RF 62 would have been a better match to my space - but at this point - i am not going to give up the 82's for the 62's unless i get a really great deal on them - i never heard them - but a friend has and i trust him - when he said it was the much smoother and more balanced - i believe him - he ended up with the 82's because at the time they didnt have the 62's and he just returned a pair of Polks which he didnt like at all - he heard my 82's and just went with them - and dont get me wrong - they can rock - but i had to work with them - given the space and the lack of highs i feel from them compared to there bottom end - which also can have some issues that need to be addressed - again this will vary depending on the space - placement etc, - i am in an Apt. so limited on how i can place them - reason the 62's may have been the better choice at the time - now its 8 years i had them - i enjoy them - at the same time - i wouldnt mind a change - i just finished listening to them - and had the itch to swap out the wires and run the 82's off my pro amp which i had for a long time before - i used to use a Marantz 7002 AVR - then added the QSC GX5 amp for them - that was a huge improvement and last year - i went to Emo - with the XP5 and ther pre amp UMC 200 that was another huge difference - i hvnt used them with the pro amp for over a year - i am excited to hear it again with the pro amp again - so i am wrong about the cross over then ? the lower crossover point means the horns tweeter get less information ? i though it was the other way around - unless a great deal came along for the II models - at this point - i rather wait for the next upgrade Klipsch comes up with - i hope its soon - my friend also got a pair of Fortes II and did the Bob crities upgrade tweeter and crossover - he loves it - i love the look of horns along with the sound of course
  25. Thanks for all the responses - i am not really looking for any speakers to be honest - i am curious about any new models coming in the future - i own the 5.1 RF 82 setup - and an old pair of KG 3.2 with upgraded crossover from bob crities with the upgraded tweeters - i got the 82,s to work great in my space - i had to work at it - room treatment - bass blockers - i had issues with the bottom end and i felt the highs not enough - but now its all solved and i enjoy them - but its been 7 or 8 years now i have them - and if i knew then about the RF 5 at the time - i would have gotten them - i just didnt know - i been out of the audio thing for a while when i purchased them and was looking at there current line at the time which were the RF 82 models - i dont have room for any more speakers - but i would consider replacing the 82,s if something new came out which i could enjoy differently - since i never owned a Klipsch 3 way with horns - i would love to try a pair - but cant fit the hugh KLF models now in my space - i never felt the RF 82s to be bright - maybe its my room treatment or the fact that they are not placed too far away from the rear wall - so the bottom end is deep and hard - which may take away from the top end - what ever the case - they do Rock - i mean i can pound those things and not worry about them - they just sound better and better as i raise the volume - and with the exciter in the loop - i can adjust bottom and top end to my liking - works wonders - lets see what they come out with new next year - i hope its something silimar to the RF 5 with a Mid Horn ? would be interesting -- but i also hope the prices are affortable - so back to the crossover - its safte to assume the lower crossover point would push out bigger highs top end more ? lets say for the human voice and saxaphone on jazz - classical music etc, -
