  1. Yes, I agree that HDTV is going to be a long way off. It costs money to deliver & we all know $'s drive the world!

But realize you will be able to do more than just watch TV. If you have children (kind of a big kid myself), they are going to be using the internet (much educational stuff there), sure is nice to surf on a big screen! And then there is gaming, like with the X-BOX (supports DD 5.1--intractive & live on line). With this is mind (& that more stuff will be availabe soon that we don't even know about) I bet you'll be using your TV for more than you aniticipate.

And remember also that most nice HDTV's upscale regular broadcasts so that you get almost HD quality.

  2. Don't give up so fast! Remember Best Buy is an authorized Klipsch dealor...This means your warranty is solid (by either them or Klipsch). Do you have a cancelled check or credit card statement for the purchace. Use it to prove date of purchace and all should be fine.

Did you register the speakers with Klipsch--you can do it now online.

If no help--call Klipsch, I've always found them to be completely helpful.

  3. Sounds like there is a little confusion here or some miswording (is that a word). The SC-1 has two 5 way binding posts, one for the + ond one for the - speaker wire from the coresponding center channel output terminal on the receiver. The key element here is that each channel delivers sound to 1 specific speaker. This is how we get the sence of surround sound--specific sound for specific speakers.

It is possible to bridge 2 or more channels into a single speaker. This is generally done to increase the power being delivered to a given speaker (two 100 watt channels bridged could combine to deliver 200 watts of power to a speaker). This is generally done at the amp--the speaker still only having a single + & - imput.

Some speakers do have an additional set of the binding posts--confusing huh? What is going on here is seperating the incoming signal to the woofer and tweeter and is referred to as bi-wiring. This is accomplished by running two set of wires form the amp. People usually run one set form the A output and another form the B output terminals on the back of their receiver/amp (remember those speaker A & B buttons on the front of the receiver). The speaker splits the signal internally when only one set is used--some people feel their is some sonic benefit when this is bypassed.

You can also bi-amp, which is you guessed it--using one amp to drive the woofer and another amp to drive the tweeter. Of course this requires 2 amps. Of note is that most people feel that the most sonic improvement is apprecitated with bi-amping.

Now there are alternatives depending on the componet being used--check out the new Aragon's. WOWcwm35.gif!

  4. Welcome aboard dwlnga, & congradulations on your 1st purchase! I'm sure you'll be well pleased with them.

To answer your question I go back to what PWK himself once said. OK, I can't quote him exactly but the gist of it was that any 5 watt amp will drive any of his speakers. Has to do with their efficiency (96 db @ 1 watt/meter). This is the loudness you perceive sitting 1 meter in front of the speaker with the amp delivering 1 watt of power--pretty loud.

Now this is not a doubling thing--2 watts doesn't output 192 db's (per the above rating), it's a logrithmic expression (a little help with the formula guy's). With 40 watts those things will jam as I'm sure you already have found out

    cwm11.gif!

PS: Congradulations on the other baby too!

  5. KD

The center is your major player with 5.1 material. It is going to be a focal point. I recommend using the old trusty sound meter to set up your front & center--heck check em all! I suspect you have it up too much, I have the SC-1 & keep it @ 0. Vocals tend to be a bid nasaly with it--may enjoy the upgrade to the ref line. Oh if money was not an issue!

  6. Hoping for some handling advice. A friend of mine has the 5800, bought it in Janurary. It broke in July--took it to Sound Advice (local dealor for repair). They kept it untill November, shipped it back still broken. Returned it for further repair, got it back in December--still broken. Shipped it again for repair--now it's lost!

My friend has called Denon/SA many times complaining and received no satisfaction. Sound Advice seems to be unable to handle the repair & less than sympathetic to the situation (he did'nt buy it from them).

This seems like a customer service issue. Should Denon send him a new receiver or put pressure on SA to resolve this? Is there anybody at Denon that you guy's can reccomend for him to call to get some help with this. I can't immagine buying a flagship receiver and getting such a lack of service!

  7. Also don't forget that yo can adjust the frequency of the sub. By turning it lower you reduce the amount of work it has to do. I tune mine to where my mains (set to large) begin to roll off & let them both rock!

I do set my center to small to let it concentrate on vocals.

  8. Didn't buy it but I did borrow it from a friend. No problem with playback. Thought the sound was very good. Think the THX trailer is the best I have done so far!!! Love that stuff.

  9. My personal wish list would be RF-7's (mains & surrounds) with RC-7's (front & rear centers) and the RSW 15 sub. I havn't heard the sub yet, but am truely impressed with the 7's. Money being the constraint that it is I will settle for RF-5's for surrounds (that is when some extra cash find its way home).

I have demoed full size speakers with the surround radiating in home (KSF-8.5's vs KSP-S6's) and found the S-6's to not even come close to producing the dynamics & soundstage of a full size speaker. People say that "diffuse-radiating" is the way to go--not for this guy. And with 5 channel music you should really enjoy the towers!

Let us know what you decide oncwm20.gif

  10. Thanks Steve

You know I was gonna buy that on the way home today. Think I'll take your advice on demo. I bought the Santana DTS DVD and hated it so much I took it back! The store would only give me a store credit but hey, I did'nt really expect that. Don't want to be in that situation again.

  11. My Sony has a video out that I assume could send the signal to where ever. Just the expense of cable. I have my cable box hooked to my VCR. Then use the audio & video outs to the receiver & coax out (of the VCR) the our childrens room. Both TV's show the same show this way. Don't know if this applies with your sat box--digital coax/video cableing.

  12. Cheesehead

Just a friendly word of advice. With your cable hooked up to your reciever like that you are risking a power surge. I've had my HT for about a year and a half. Last month I got a Monster HTS 2000 and less than 1 week later got a lightning strike across the street in a field that shut down the whole system.

Best $150.00 dollars I have spent. Don't know if it would have fried without it, but I do know that I don't worry about it!

  13. These terrorists had the best laid plans--a plan that accomplished as much as they could have hoped for. As such, I feel world views of terrorism are to change forever. I forsee a complete lack of tolerance now.

I would never have believed that Russia would come forth and stand with the USA! These people will suffer severe reprocussions and they will not be the only ones.

Prayers for all who have lost in this.

  14. Don't give up to fast

Lets see, what you can do is shop around. I guess you can tell that we are die hard Klipsch fans. I have listened to a lot of speakers in my life, hands down I will never own anything else.

Now about price--surf the net and become knowledgable about the equipment and what it costs. Then shop around local stores and feel out the salespeople. You don't have to get cutting edge technology, get last years model that is being discontinued (find out when the new model are coming out--sales will be just before this).

Pay attention to the features that will be important to you, no need to buy stuff you don't need. Same thing with speakers. Got my KSF 8.5's form Sound Advice for $300 a pair--nice price. And don't forget the used market, many people are very happy with thier used Klipsch's.

Best part is that you can upgrade as you go. And the pace that technology is changing--WOW, not such a bad plan!

    Enjoy, and welcome abord!

  15. Honestly...they don't have my favorite color.

The most pleasing so far is their cherry finish, very partial to cherry (my wife too--the whole house has cherry furniture--the queen ann stuff/darker finish though).

Idealy, if Klipsch would make a darker cherry version the gates to heaven would open pouring frakensence & myrth...oh I digress again & sorry bout the spellingcwm1.gif.
