  1. Ohhh thats a tuffy! My dealor just got the RF7's in...& in a nutshell, I was impressed. The clarity is better, the base was tighter. They can play loud too. Used the Yammy RXV1 and cranked them to -30db (didn't want to disturb the other shoppers) with some Doors-LA Woman. This CD will reveal that horn "harshness" & they did better than the 20's (couple of times they bit a little, but hey, this is psychodelic rock). Played some Supertramp-Crime of the Century, just to hear some pianos, horns, harmonicas & vocals...very, very, very clear! Will need a sub though IMHO. Some of these song have some impressive low base that wasn't emphasized enough, IMHO.

With you getting the rest of the RS package I would reccomend the RF7's. They play LOUD, can't immagine needing 4 KLF20's when you have the others. And the match would be perfect, and don't forget the choice of finishes--all would match there also.

Anyway go listen for yourself with your favorite CD's & let us know what you think!

  2. Ditto, 20's---nuff said!!!

OK, so maybe thats a little hasty. Chriscat, I spent several lengthy sessions listening to the Legend line. They are impressive speakers. The 20's brought the music to life & I always felt the 30's just sang to me!

But thats the deal, "to me." Your best bet is to go listen to them with a few of your favorite CD's if at all possible. If not, there is no way you will be dissapointed. I say the 20's because they reproduce sound very well, the 30's do that & can get rediculous loud (not a prerequisite for a budget system). You would also do just fine with the 10's for rears & save a few more dollars.

  3. I use a pair in my HT as mains with a SC-1 center. Does the job quite nicely. For music they are not as good--but for $300 a pair @ Sound Advice (yes they are still selling them, in fact I was in there yesterday and the salesman told me that they were the only speaker they were actually moving!) how can you go wrong. I really enjoy mine even though they will become a little harsh after a bit with music. They do fairly well with bass (39 Hz if I remember right). Room placement was the key with mine.

If $'s are a concern (they are with me), they are better than anything in their price range. And you can always upgrade as your needs improve. Man this is a great hobby!

    Go noles!

  4. I noticed it the first time I listened to it. On continued listening I think it's when he's playing the guitar and he brushes a string inadvertantly while moving his hand. Happens a couple of times in the song--don't know if it's on purpose or not. My opinion is it's an accident--yet you think they would edit that if so???

    Anybody else

  5. I know Sound Advice ran a special recently on the 3.5's. They are again selling the KSF 8.5's (buy one @ $299 & get one free). So you could also trade them in for the KSF's which match well with the SC-1/SS-5's.

That is if you bought from SA. Man what a great hobby.

  6. Some time back there were some c/o the back panel becoming loose & vibtating. There is an incredibly long post about this (do a search). My understanding is (excuse me if I have misunderstood) that the joint was of questionable design and there was a bad batch of glue. I believe any problem was quickly fixed by Klipsch and generally people still love their KLF's.

Hence my concern r/t the new refs--I bet I will want these as my next upgrade, but don't want to go down that same road! If these puppies are as good as touted I could imagine having a pair(s) for the next 20+ years & I need a joint that will last that long.

Again, I know time will tell, but I want a pair before then...

    8 days & counting!!!

  7. Thanks Phil,

I'm really looking forward to auditioning these things. I guess I'm wondering about how the joints are made and what kind of internal bracing they might have?

cwm12.gifI have to have something to ponder for nine more days!

  8. Hey guy's, got my Sound Advice anniversery paper and there are the new Refs!!! Called them up and they are'nt in stock untill the 16th. Arrrrggg!

Anyway, I've seen a lot of posting on these babies, yet have'nt heard anybody comment on the build quality (wondering in the back of my mind about the KLF 30 problem). Are the backs going to come off of these or has that been addressed and how.

Thanks guys, 10 days and counting!

  9. My dad has a 60 Hitachi & just switched to digital cable. They hooked him up with coax to the TV & he was very much not impressed.

Got him a RadShack Gold Series A/V interconect and we both noticed a significant picture & sound improvement.

Absolutely a noticeable difference--and only $15 for 6 ft cables!

  10. Hey, take it easy on Best Buy. When I was first thinking about buying speakers I went to Best Buy. The salesman was very upfront with me. I told him about the Klipsch speakers I was looking at and ask him to compare his wares to them. He stopped right there and said "Nothing I have competes with Klipsch, end of story!"

Those guys don't work on commision--don't know if they are all so honest, but at least one is.

  11. Your in luck, there is so much info on the net! You can do a search under many headings (home theater, etc). Also good info @ dolby.com, dts.com, ecoustics.com (they have a good section on everything you will need to get started).

And then there is this BB. Anything you don't understand...just ask away. Many very knowledgable people here that are happy to help you out (best BB on the net IMHO)!

Budget is a keyword. Demo products extensively. Many of us like Yamaha & Denon & other receivers/amps. I think we all agree Klipsch is the best speaker(s) to use. So get a feel of what your ears really love & see what it costs and go from there!

    Welcome aboard.

  12. Man, I feel your pain. Back in the days of vinyl, we would go to great lengths to avoid hiss. Somithing must be amiss somewhere! Maybe some polarity issue. Get a meter & confirm your CD player & reciever match (heck, check all your equipment while your at it). Also check all the grounds. If you have been having this problem with all your receivers something is up. Log onto boundforsound.com & check the tweeks section for a detailed "how to" on this. Could be an appliance somewhere, anything. Do you use line conditioning etc?

  13. Matching center: KG 2.2V or KG 1.2V

    Matching surrounds/front effecht: Bookshelfs--KG 2.2 or KG 1.2

    Matching Subwoofer: KG SW

Check Ebay for used, others on the bb may have them also. Let em know & they'll let you know.

Also, have to agree that Synergy's will probably be the best match for new speaks.

  14. Sorry to here about the hiss! I have the RXV 795a & it's dead quiet with my KSF 8.5's. Yammy makes good stuff, 2 years is not old! Have you always had the hiss? Sounds like maybe a short in a switch or a bad contact. Try cleaning them real good and see if that helps. Just a tempory fix though, once a switch gets play in it from wear--well it's kinda like hopeing Slick 50 will fix your engine!

    Thanks for your input.
