  1. I use Marantz and love it. I just find that for the great sound quality that you get, you give up on features. I feel that other brands give you more for your buck in terms of bells and whistles at the same price point. I also feel that Marantz is always one year behind in newer technology. Having said that, I am willing to compromise because I love the product.
  2. Coleman, my room is very similar to yours. It will be pretty much the same except I will mount the RS a tad higher.
  3. So in my situation, do I set up my receiver as Surround or Surround back?
  4. I wouldn't install anything like that. Just don't put them directly above your head and you'll probably be fine, either spread them out or put them in the back corner of the side walls. Since they don't fire directly at you and you'll be on the same plane either way, I'm not sure that either choice will matter much. I will install them two feet above my head and ten feet apart so that each one will be five feet away from my head.
  5. If you had some room it would work but he doesn't. Given the situation of him being flat up against the wall, only being 4' apart and 2-3' above ear level would have these things be directly above somebody's head, which yeah sound will still come out of them but it would be a little weird. Personally I think they need to be spread out if he has to keep this furniture configuration and he already has these speakers. To the OP, can you not bring your couch out into the room a little bit? Flat up against the wall is hard to work with. I already have the RS-42's. My goal here is a 5.2 set up. Unfortunately my room is 10.5 feet from the front wall to the rear wall, therefore it really needs to be up against the wall. At best I can install a ledge on the wall right behind the couch to bring it forward, but not more than half a foot max. Would that help or would it be pointless?
  6. Thanks. When it comes to the RS-42 speaker, would it be "better" if they were placed on side walls at 90 degrees of mlp? Unfortunately, due to room configuration, the back wall is really my only option.
  7. My couch is placed up against the wall. I have to mound my RS42 on the back wall. How high up from the floor should I mount them and how far away from each other? Thanks M
  8. Which would you choose and why? More or less same price point. Denon X4000 or Marantz SR5008? I have a Marantz SR4002 for several years and love it. Paired with Synergie B-3 & C-2. I would like to "try" Denon.
  9. Really looking for a single but will buy a pair if neccessary. Original reference and not II. Thanks
  10. Right now I am thinking to build a stand with tilt and at lease line up the woofer of the 81 with the lower woofer of the 82. Then tilt it upward slightly.
  11. I have been trying to search for HT Set Up images where a bookshelf is being used as a center. I have yet to find any on the web. I want to get some ideas. If anyone has some images please post them up. Thanks.
  12. Yes, I was thinking of fabricating a stand for it with a tilt function. I think I would only need a 10 degree tilt or so.
  13. The problem with aligning the tweeters is height. The reason I want the bookshelf is so that I can place it lower than a tower under the TV. If I were to bring the bookshelf at the same height as the tower, then I may as well just buy another tower for the center.
  14. I am not planning to lay it on its side. I will custom make a stand for it in order to line up the woofer with the lower woofer on the RF-82.
  15. I just picked up a pair of Reference RF-82 (not II). I would like to procure a RB-81 as my center channel. Would it matter if the RB-81 is from the newer Reference II line? Also, in your experience, how difficult would it be to buy a single RB-81 on the used market? Thanks M
  16. The TV has not been purchased yet. It will be a 50+ flat screen, not sure which at this point.
  17. I want to use a regular bookshelf speaker as my center (kg 2.5). Should i be concerned about shielding?
  18. ...or, a nice looking speaker stand as suggested. What company makes good height adjustable speaker stand that could handle the weight of the RS 42?
  19. Thanks for the reply. A speaker stand on the side with no wall may make the whole room and set up look bad aesthetically. I was thinking of adding a big sturdy bookshelf unit agaist the back wall on the side of the room where there is no side wall. That way, the bookshelf unit will in a way create a mini-wall on that side. I could then mount the RS 42 on the side of the booshelf unit. What do you think?
  20. Hello, I just bought a new home. I have limited options for my HT room. Has to be a 5.1 set up and the couch needs to be against the back wall. In this case, where is the best place to mount my RS 42 speakers? Agaisnt the back wall would be most practical. Mounting them on the side walls will prove problematic because I only have a wall on one side of the room. The other side of the room is open so I will not be able to mount a speaker there. Any feedback or suggestions would be great. Thanks.
  21. because its a 7.1 AVR and i am looking for a 2 channel. i already own a 7.1 Marantz.
  22. There are also fantastic reviews on the Onkyo A-9555. And i can pick it up locally. However it does not have a Sub out. How critical is this? Do i really need a sub for a dedicated 2 channel set up? I do enjoy hearing/feeling those low bass frequencies.
  23. I was just wondering if it is the same in the U.S. as it is here in Montreal that most of the Specialty Audio Stores carry B&W and Paradigm as a staple. I have yet to find any Klipsch in these stores. Yet, when i bought my first Klipsch back in 1996 they were from a Specialty Store. I assume that since Klipsch went Big Box Store, that the smaller specialty stores stopped carrying them. Also, while browsing through the AVS Forums under "2 Channel Audio" by far the two most recommended brands to noobs are B&W and Paradigm...have yet to see anyone recomment Klipsch. My friends have both B&W and Paradigm and i fail to see how these are any better than my KG's...especially the Paradigm.....the B&W did sound pretty good. Anyway, just thought i would share this with you.
  24. I have been playing around with my sub for a while now. Set all speakers to small, set xover on AVR to 80Hz and turned up the xover on the sub all the way up as suggested. I experimented with placement and the phase toggle switch. Like i mentioned before this sub is good when watching movies, cannot really complain, however when using for music in stereo it is very disppointing. Bass is not clean, nor tight. Its kinda muddy and boomy. I am setting up a dedicated 2.1 system and will definatley look elsewhere for a sub, need something musical.
  25. The front part of my HT set up is Synergy. C2 center and B3 fronts. I could not be happier with the result. The C2 is very impressive for its size and being Synergy. Ive had it over one year and it still impresses me. I must say that the B3's are good but not fantastic for listening to music in stereo. The Synergy line is a great bang for the buck for people on a budget, cannot go wrong. Good catch on the C3 they are hard to come by.
