  1. Well....the noise of a computer...espeacially the hard drive...is the biggest problem I can sense.

Are you saying this because these items make a physical noise that will be delivered through the sound card/optic output. Or is this some sort of weird computer talk.

What would you recommend, sound card with just a RCA output. What good is the optic out put for (hooking up to my 5.1 receiver for movies).

Keep in mind when I am streaming music from my comp to my receiver I mainly looking for convince to my collection of music for party's and what not. If I want quality I go to vinyl a lot easier and sounds better.

  2. I emailed support a month ago they just got back to me yesterday and told me to download the driver for the u control which is the usb version for the 64 bit but it didn't seem to work they just told me that its a Microsoft problem.

  3. So for some time now I have tring to figure out why I can't download the driver to my Behringer fca202, come to find out the driver is for windows 7 32 bit not 64 bit. So I got to looking at my computer, and turns out it has a optical audio out. I know some say dac from the cumputer aren't worth it because of the clockng of the computer to the dacs don't match up I don't know mutch about this kind of stuff, but its all ways kept me away from this kind of setup. Now I am looking for some what of a simple set up so would it be worth it to try. Is there any reasonably priced dacs out there.

    thanks

  4. When I had my Forte 1 passive woofer out to replace the caps in the crossover, I noticed that were the cone attaches to what I believe might be the voice coil, seems to be torn. Is it possible a local speaker repair shop would be able to replace the parts with some sort of generic parts or would it be better to replace it. If better to replace it what is a suitable replacement woofer and were could I obtain one.

    Thanks

    Nick

  5. I thought I had a schematic for these but I don't one might be needed but don't know yet. Is there any way to remove the passive easily to access some of the wires so I can remove the the crossover so I don't have to work off the back of the speaker. Also the 47uf cap is glued to one of the transformers is it necessary to re glue the new one to it. Any advice is recommended.

Is the grill fabric brown or is mine just old and dirty, has any one ever tried dieing there speakers grills I was thinking of using some dierite either black or brown what ever color it is supposed to be.

    Thanks

    Nick

  6. You can always check the bay for some N.A.D. there are great reviews matched with Heritage line I am sure they sound great with Forte IIs I have the Forte 1 with a older Kenwood amp and a passive pre, sounds good but not the best pre. I would like to try tubed pre some day but I have to many audio hobbies I bounce around with.

Good luck with the search. Have some fun. And welcome.

  7. When going active would there be significant benefit from selecting different amps that specialize in low or mids etc.?

Clearly, many here would say that tube electronics are mid-high frequency friendly, while SS amps of the BJT (bipolar) persuasion tend to have snappier bass response (and lower output impedance).

However, I'm not a tube aficionado - I prefer Nelson Pass's approach using FETs for power amplification. There are many benefits and virtually no burdens to this approach.

    Chris

I was thinking of trying something along the lines of a tubed amp on the hf/mf section and a ss on the bas bin of the Khorns. I will be using the passive between the tweeter and squawker, and a active between them and the bass bin.

    1. will this work

    2. If I am using a lower power tubed amp and a higher power ss amp is there going to be some delay issues that need to be addressed with something like a eq.

  8. Nice job man, if you want to ab the crossover networks I have a Bob Crites 4500 not hooked up yet. I can bring it over and you could try it out. I also have my hybrid khorns and lascala going if you want to stop by and check them out, I even picked up a different reciever and bigger power amp for the up stair system if you want to check that out again. Man sometimes I can just start rambling, give me a call if you want to get to gether.

  9. Chris, Thanks for the advice but that isn't my room. I just brought up a old thread to ask a question on why people use sound panels do to a argument I had a with a friend. When I get to this point at least I know what I am looking at instead of throwing money away. I just see alot of guys that continue to add and install lots of sound panels, I never knew what desired them to do so. thats all.

But I all so got alot of sound treatment sites from this as well so thanks to all recomendations.

  10. After doing some research, I have discovered that solid surfaces cause sound to bounce off of the walls. So introduceing a soft panel absorbs it, looks there is all so treatments to reflect and diffuse this must be what the product does that my buddy was talking about, now I just have to make sure we were on the right page the other night if so than I have to find a way to convince him other wise. Since he seems to think that flat surfaces do absolutely nothing to sound which in a way he is right just hard flat surfaces.. Does anyone have any info on this.

  11. I know this is a old thread but its a great topic I have recently started on. So quick question, what is it that some of these sound panels actually do. The reason I ask is I had a friend over last night that installs a product in school gymnasium and tells me that this spaghetti looking product is the way to go, plus it also had different shaped and sized pyramids that "control the sound better" he also tells me anything with a flat surface is a waste of time, that sound panels need to have the pyramids structures. Maybe him and I are talking about 2 completely different things you want to do, maybe I am confused on what to do.

Artto I have read some of your old post on this maybe I need to go back and read it again so I understand.

    thanks

  12. Youtman, you know for being the forum police you sure do like to change the subject alot.

Yeah, it's cause I'm ADD and was just never diagnosed. LOL

Thats funny my mom had me tested and at the time the doctors just told her i was hyper active, my wife says different.

  13. Youtman, you know for being the forum police you sure do like to change the subject alot. Just messing with you, you are always helpful.

Carl, I found the site and managed to move around, for the prices I like the fis, also If 2 18s might be better it would actually be a better price or if I could make the 4 15s work that would be good as well.

  14. There's a saying, "cheapskate pays twice", meaning it's false economy to buy something that doesn't do the job, because you'll end up buying what you actually wanted anyway, so the first money spent was thrown away.

I have been down this road many times.

  15. Well I ordered my table tuba plans today the original and the long style, this is just something for fun to try but not left out for ideas.

I also posted a thread on the Cult fo the Ib sub page here, Carl were do I find these drivers you speak of.

    http://ibsubwoofers.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=projects&action=display&thread=1778.

This project will be in research and shopping mode until after the up coming holidays. I should start some construction here and there but will not get to serious until about Jan. But let the fun begin for now.

thanks to all who replied I will keep updates and pics.

    Nick.

  16. Thanks for sharing seems there's more than one way to skin a cat is yours what they consider a line array why did you not do a manifold style. Hopefully I have time to post tonight for the first time over in cult of the ib sub forum. I will drop thomas a line. Maybe get his input.

    Thanks for your time.

  17. That's why I was looking at that one cause the bad was 2.27 so 4 of those wouldn't exceed the 10 times rule but sounds like I will have to find a 15. How do you feel about what the site says about doing at least 4 times the vas though it wouldn't be a true ib but you will still get great lows. Also what is considered low fs. Do you have pics of yours and little detail on operation.
