thanks for the input, how did you go about getting a refurb model, also the dhc9.9 can be had nos for about 1000. Course its all most 2 years old. What is Audyssey Pro and what external instrumentation do you have that takes place of it.

Cecaa, I do own a older NAD reciever I just don't care for the sound, another forum member and a friend of mine on here has NAD everthing and hes does sound great, I only seen to find the master series came as just a pre/pro, but haven't looked futher. Also we need to have a chat about those IB subs, I think the first thing I need to do is figure which side of the room I want to plant my ht that will help me decide location and style for one. Anyways thats a hole nother descusion and time.

    Thanks guys.

  2. I was have recently been looking at the Integra line for a pre/pro for my HT I have a Emotiva 5 channel amp,. I have also been looking at Rotel, I know there is a big discussion on here for the Emotiva pre/pro but seems to me there is some kinks to work out.. Couple of issues I am looking at is thx certified, and hdmi pass through, I only have 1 source that isn't hdmi but I don't want to have to run another cable through the wall. Any Ideas.

    thanks

  3. I have searched for a better quality Rg-6, and used it to make short run interconnects. I just had a longer run thought it would be more necessary to use balanced. I am interested to see how you installed a resistor on when terminating. I think I will look at prices next to help decide I guess that could make the decission. Doesn't seem to be a big issue, for what I am doing for now I guess even some cheaper rg6 would be all right unless the balanced isn't to expenssive.

Any one know xlr is wired to the 1/4"connectors.

    Thanks for the info guys.

  4. First off maybe someone can shine light on balanced cables, I know they are realy only necessary for longer runs. Is it so much a cable or the way its wired.

Second, I know they are 2 different cables for different things, but I have used rg6 before for interconnects and seemed to work fine I have also used rg59 for interconnects.

Third what am I doing, I am hooking up my comp with a Berhinger fca-202 audio interface it accepts balanced with 1/4" plugs which the room I have it in now I just have a 1/4" to rca adapter but the room I am moving it in I will have a run about 35-40 feet. Didn't know If I would be all right finding some rg6 or going with some balanced cables, and if there is a good source for bulk balanced cable. If I went with this balanced wire I would have put the 1/4" on one end and rca on another just need to see how it needs to be wired up.

  5. all of the music stores that werent independently owned closed up with the big mp3 wave hitting the scene, but the locals execpt one stayed in business, and that one only closed up some of there stores(Homers music used to have several locations only 2 one in omaha and one in lincoln) it mainly sales records now and some cds). But they get alot of new stuff in and want big bucks for them. the other 3 antiquarium, drastic plastic which used to be known for vinyl who now only sells cds for the most part, and the king of vinyl kingsville but they buy from people getting out of vinyl and estate sales and goodwill, they also supply the other 3 which of course they have this 1$ room with lots of great albums its like a vinyl grave yard you can spend days in there looking for albums.

unfortunatly I wasn't able to make it out today, and there were a few artist such as ac/dc, the boss and other releasing some old singles on vinyl just for today. Klipsch recently had a article about compressed music. I think things like this and youngster like me are what the music industy needs to keep good sounding tunes spinning.

excuse the por grammar and spelling I had a great night at bowling and family and friends were involved.

  6. Its a sealed unit, I would have thought that a 18" would have been plenty big enough, I guess not how about 2 15s, . I thought I always read it was hard to really set up 2 subs properly. I don't know. thanks for the heads up, now back to our original program.

  7. Has anyone scene Megamind yet? Hilarious movie, and awesome sound! I was just wondering if anyone noticed the modified Klipsch RF-84s and the RC-64 in the movie. There is a home theater system in one of the scenes, and it seems obvious that they used the reference series as a model and made some modifications. Check it out!

I caught this in the Theater and shouted it out, my wife and kids got embarrased.

  8. I liked it so much I went out and bought the Hans Zimmer scored Soundtrack http://www.amazon.com/Inception-Music-Motion-Picture/dp/B003U9TDII

    What about the ending?
    repost from reddit

"So, you know how everyone thinks that the Top is his totem, but in the beginning he mentions that it’s actually Mal’s? Well, you see, if it’s not his totem, then it’s not going to properly work for him. Cobb’s totem is his WEDDING RING. Whenever he’s dreaming, he has a wedding ring on because, as he says, in his dreams, they’re still together. In reality, he’s not wearing a ring. During the last scene of the movie? He’s not wearing a ring. BAM, REALITY."

I never picked up on that, it explains alot. On a second thought whats up with Leonardo doing the twisted thrillers, such as Shutter Island was he really crazy or did they just convince him he was.

and yes the bass makes my sub fart, which I know isn't a good thing but I haven't had a chance to have it checked out yet. I have to go and watch this movie again thanks guys.

  9. Any ideas, for starters I know its not the source. But I haven't tried swaping recievers. Gear is Altec 511b with k-55-v drivers, and Selenium hm17-25 with the d220ti drivers, and Some sort of knock off of Crites 4500 crossover. I don't hear it from the bass bin just the mid and tweet, but the bass bin is a EV Regency cab with a CW1526c. Which I have the changed the taps on the auto transformer for about -6db. If I get time I will swap out recievers and see if thats it but thought I would ask for any extra input maybe a bad cap or transformer, don't know and its not constant only seems to appear with certain songs.

    Thanks

  11. Thx for the kind words larbo. I've really enjoyed the Panny. You can get the 4000u $500 cheaper than I paid for the 3000u. You need to prepare the wife...manicure/pedicure gift card, flowers, take her out shopping. It typically works for me. Big Smile

With you not being in a rush, electronics will only get better and cheaper over time so it's still a win, even if you have to wait. Do you have your screen picked out?

What about 3d projectors are we there yet in technology, Nice rooms to all by the way.

  12. Trying to understand how to connect tehT2A, 0 is always negative right, so if the positive from the input side is connected to 5 that means the input taps are 0-5, if the output tap is 4 that means its 0-4 right. Which would put me at 3 db attenuation so If I wanted to have 3 more db I would go 0-5 and 0-3. Question 3 is being used to the squawker is this a problem sharing this tap.

    Thanks

  13. Well If I hear back from the fellow with the Khorns and make arrangements to purchase. I will look into one of these programs that you use to take all these readings(unless they are really expensive)and take some reading since I have Crites cast frame woofers, and the Khorns will have the K-43 I can compare. Thanks for the info fellows you can continue this discussion if you like It looks interesting and knowledgeable. Plus I am sure it will wind into some real questions I have and this might have been the decoy thread.

  14. Title says it all, but I was looking at Al's website at his crossovers and I get really mixed up in all the tech stuff and numbers so I am calling for help. I will be using a active crossover from the top hap to the bass bin. Al has those extreme slope separates for the squawker/tweeter that can go down to 4000hz, which are only recommended if your not using the k-77 which I am not.

Which brings me to another question, I know going that low would take some weight off of the shoulders of the Mid. But would it hurt to go a little higher say like Crites Cornscala network at 4500hz and could that be used in a bi-amp mode by just not hooking up the woofer side. The only thing else is that it wouldn't have tweeter attenuation which I herd is a plus since the selenuim's run a little hot from what I was told.

    thanks

  15. Not that I don't trust the source which is a well respected member around these parts and is very knowledgeable. But I wanted to get a couple opinions on the matter. I was told that the earlier K-horns had a 6x13 throat, and that later ones were made with a 3x13 throat. Now from what I was told is that the ones with the 6x13 has lower bass but not as good mids. So I take that the ones with the 3x13 throat will have not as much low end but a little better mids. Am I understanding this right.

If so then that brings me to my first question, If the older ones have better lows but not as good of mids would this be issues when using Altec 511bs with the K-55-v driver. If so would using the k-43 be a better choice, or would I be fine with the cast frame woofers from Crites. Just so you know I have not purchased these yet but am looking at a pair.

I think I have more questions but this is all I can think of for now.

    Thanks

  16. Not that I have K-horns which one day I hope to stumble across a pair of actual K-horn bass bins. But for now I am using the EVs I have listed in my signature. But know is the time I need to build a top which I want to mimic the K-horn as close as possible. I hae the speaker lab plans I am going off of for now. But from what I can tell the sides and the way the grill attaches seem to be different. I guess what I need is a pic of how the grills rap around the front and sides or pics with the grill on and off would help me as well.

    Thanks

    Nick
