    davis, 1/2" i'm guessing    thanks

    It is 3/4" birch plywood.

Did you cut the tail board off?  any other photos?

    thanks

Nothing was cut off. No screws in the cabinet itself. I used 4 screws per side and they were located in the mounting boards for the grills and the mounting boards for the tail board. This is the only other pic I have is showing how they fit flush everywhere. My intension was to paint them black but never did.

Ok, I see now.  That sure looks simple. You went flush to the tail board.  Any vibration or reso when your throttle them up?  Im wanting to do this as well. Do you think MDF would be better due to the few anchor points?  Also, do you think that 3/4" of air space loss makes a difference as opposed having them against the wall?

    Looks very clean. Great job

Its very simple if you have access to a table saw. Nothing sticks out past the side grill or tail board . No vibration that I can hear but at 105db I don't think you could hear it. I would much rather use plywood with only 4 screws rather than mdf but either would be fine. I have since made some 9" x 9" pcs. with back cut 45 degree angles on 3 sides to cover the 2 gaps at the tailboards. I don't think the gaps at the grills matter.

I have a Marantz 2238 in collector condition that has been boxed up and put away for a few years. It is so mint that's it still has the plastic cover on the face which it came with new. It is also in mint condition ! PM me if you are interested.

Sounds like a very nice unit.  I have found only one unit of that time period. and it had been used and the plastic was not perfect.

Looking for a pair of vintage Cornwalls, plywood construction, preferably not in black finish.  I'm in MD, so somewhere int the DC/MD/VA area would be great for pickup.

not sure how very committed you are to buying a set of CW but for what it is worth(and this is just my opinion)you should also consider a set of Chorus ll which replaced the CW (it was ten years till the retro crowd convinced Klipsch to bring the CW back). The Chorus ll has a far better woofer which also handles a lot more power and the Chorus ll also has a significantly better modern hybrid mid horn along with the K79 tweeter and it has a much more domestic acceptable cabinet volume. You loose nothing in bandwidth either. Just so you know. I am sure there will be CW owners who will disagree but Chorus ll owners will tell you what they think also. Best regards Moray James

    I agree !

  6. absoluley Not worth it. let me break it down for you. on used items off ebay

    k-77's = $160

    k-55v's = $175

    K-22E's = $150

    crossovers - $125

    total $610 without grills/cabinets or the midrange.horns

best to buy beater heresys for under $400 and swap the innerds to the new cabs.

Now you see why they are empty ! They are worth more selling the parts.

  7. I've seen these since they were listed...

535's and they wouldn't have lasted 2 minutes... 904's and I can think about it for a while.

That's only because you don't have a clue how good they sound !

  8. BTW, I like that you always keep me grounded when I come up with "what about.. ?" scenarios.

It just comes out that way.

I think the big draw with the DBB's would be the ability to go 2 way with a 502 or 402 horn. Big bass, big horn. Add a couple amps, an active or passive crossover and let'er rip.

This is the way to go !

  9. I already got a pair of 904's from a guy here in Denver, Dan Mueller. He sold me one of his two pairs. He knows another guy selling a pair, he's gonna buy one and I'll buy the other so we each get a center.

Mostly movies, the occasional concert blu ray. Really I'm happy with my bass, but then I've been happy with RF-7's going on a decade till now. :) Plus all the new standards seem to like 2 subs.

Are they KPT-904-lf-n or KPT-904-lf-m for the serial number ?

  10. That's cause the 684 is a monster above 40 hz. The 884 is flat to 18. Don't get much better than that.

I considered buying this 884 from Bill but just wanted to go with dual subs. They go down to 18 as well. I use them for music only. My H/T is 4 Khorns and a SVS PB/Ultra/2 for movies and the front Khorns with 2 RSW-15's for music and sounds fantastic. The 15's seem to be very musical.
