  1. it is -80db then up to 0db. 0 db is the highest. This is my first recieveir of this class so I have some more to learn. What do u think of the updated photo?
  2. Cd in the DVD is correct. It does not matter if I use stereo or Dolby or DTS it i still louder on music. DVDs are quieter than Cd's at same volume. In Dolby scale from 80 to 0dB. On movies I from 20db to 40db depends. But If I listen to a cd at 20db I just about can't sit there and listen to it either in stereo or Dolby or DTS. Its is louder than any one would want to enjoy music at in my opinion. I guess all this is not that big of a deal. All I have to do is turn up the volume. I have not heard any distortion at any volume even into 20db is this normal? I guess this how hk build receivers? Is it normal to run hk at 0db and it not break?. All of my receivers in the past at 3/4 volume would start distorting badly and this is not the case with the hk. by the way i picked it up for 185 Pretty good price I think
  3. When watching a movie any movie, any sound format the sound is quieter than when I play music through the exact same setup. Why? Am I missing something? I had to put the Channel setup to all pretty much 10db instead of 0 db to any kind of real volume out of it. If I left it at 0 db I had to turn it up the volume a lot higher than what I think it should be. Is this normal?
  4. Well I ended up Getting a H/K avr 335, It sounds a lot better. But the rf-7's still want more power. Amazing what only a true 50 watts a channel can do. I got everything hooked today I am so glad I went with h/k. Later down the line I will probaly add an amp but for its good I can't even sit in the room when its turned up. If any has a simlar receiver I have some question. Thanks yu to every one for the help.
  5. Didn't think of a ps3 but I will look into that. Not a huge fan of the blue tooth idea. But it may be an option. Every thing blue tooth i have ever had has not that great of quality or distance.
  6. Pyro you just love Floyd. How do you like the La Scala over the RF-7?
  7. Well I just bought my wife a new hp dv2700 laptop. This is to counteract the RF line purchase for me. [] Gotta keep the misses happy or now one will be happy. Since I am going to get a wireless router. I was wondering if any one had suggestion on how to play music over wifi to an avr? I know that there are avr's that have wifi receivers built in. But I don't have one, so trying to figure out some alternatives. I currently use a RCA cable from my Presonus Firepod I/O board to the avr. It would be nice to get rid of that wire because for some reason there is interference getting into the signal. Only noticeable at high volume. But it its there none the less. Thanks in advance.
  8. Exactly what I wanted to know.
  9. Man Pyro those look good. A guess you stepped up from the RF-7's. Probably way to much speaker for your complex.
  10. What is a good crossover point for RF-7 home theater and music. Any suggestions would be great.
  11. So Pyro they finally came in. I bet you are ecstatic. Don't worry about your old wore out broke down and plain junk Rf-7's, LOL. They have a real home forever. I have been listening not stop since I got them can't wait till I get more funds to power them with some authority. thanks for keeping them in good condition for me. Lucky for you I did not have the cash to get the sub with them. Because you would be regretting it. Let me know how you like them compared to the RF-7's. A side question did you say you had a Onkyo receiver hooked up to the 7's and did not like it?
  12. Thank you speakerfritz. I am try to find receivers that bridge the power from the rears to the fronts. Like the TX-NR1000. I am not interested in messing with bi-amping i don't want to mess with the speakers to much. Also thank you DrWho. I don't know why I didn't think that in the first place. I guess I just got tied up in the plethora of specifications.
  13. Well I only have room for a five channel setup. But I would like to get a 7.1 avr for in the future. I was trying to get the most power to the RF-7. So if I am going to buy one I would like to get one that has that feature. To my knowledge those Onkyo actually bridge the amp internally. Which is not the as bi amping. Unless I am mistaken. I do not want to bi-amp I am looking to bridge the rear channels and the front's to get the most power. I am stuck in my current house due to military and not interested in hanging speakers any were.
  14. Does any one know what receiver that are out on the market that can route the rear channels to the fronts for more power? The only ones I have found so far are the Onkyo's 875, 905.
  15. Well current avr has hiss at about 50%, I think this is some kind of distortion. For the sake of the matter my current avr is pos. Thats why I am looking for a new one. Why does yours hiss with nothing on? Why does it top when DVD player is turned on? Is there some way the receiver sees that nothing is coming through and shuts the amp down?
  16. When you have your receiver at 65 with nothing playing can you hear any hiss when you put your ear near the tweeter?
  17. What I meant was there are some hk receivers a few years ago that were 120 wpc. I have read that is you mistakenly cross wire's it damages the hk almost immediately. All though I think hk would probably suit my taste best. But to get an hk with the capabilities of the Onkyo i would have to spend a lot more. Do you think that avr55 pushes the 83's well? how hard do you have to push it to get to movie volume. I have the RF-7 kinda of similar I guess. I just want the best for the money. We all know the game unless you have unlimited funds. Thanks for all that great input everyone.
  18. On line line I can get the 805 for $530 + shipping. I would think that is hard to beat. But looking into used market also. Maybe hk but I get on the problems I have read and the lower wattage. Unless I go back a few years. Can any one comment on Onkyo 805 or up being considered bright for use with RF-7 theater?
  19. Do you find it to be bright at all? How hard do you have to push it to get to movie watching volume. Ability to bridge the front 2 channel should make the RF"s scream in 2 channel. SO will most likely run 5.1 for blue ray to the receiver. That way I will get the best connection for my situation and then run a HDMI to dvi for my TV. I think this is how I am going to do it. But maybe if I can get a avr with HDMI 1.3v I will use an HDMI.
  20. Well starting to lean toward a 7 channel avr. AS long as I can bridge the front 2 channels. Because I only have room for a 5.1 on my current house. Maybe a Onyko 805, Marantz 7001 or something around that price line. Concerned with the Onkyo being to bright though. only way to find out is to try it I guess. Both of those can be found for around 600 roughly. But a must is multi-channel inputs. for the connection of blue ray. Any suggestions?
  21. Is there a big difference between Dolby digital and uncompressed audio?
  22. My TV does not HDMI out. It only has dvi in. So I need to find an avr with 1.3v HDMI or mu ti-inputs in? or is there another way to get at least 5.1 sound from a ps3 or blue ray?
  23. Well your saying that uncompressed will sound better that Dolby digital. I have no idea about the difference, but I would guess thats right. How do you have the Blue Ray connected to the Receiver? Side question. Is OK to connect the HDMI to the TV and run the audio into the receiver?
  24. So if I wanted to use the PS3 I would need a receiver that can decode DTS-HD 7.1 Ch. But according to the Sony website the PS3 does not output DTS-HD 7.1 Ch. Or maybe I am just reading it wrong. Audio output on the PLAY STATION®3 system The supported channels may vary depending on the output connector used. NOTES: Audio from a Super Audio CD cannot be output from the digital out (optical) connector. Multi-channel content from Super Audio Cd's can only be output from the HDMI OUT connector. A device compatible with Linear PCM 7.1 Ch. is required to output 7.1 Ch. audio from the HDMI OUT connector. This system does not support output from the DTS-HD 7.1 Ch. DTS-HD 7.1Ch audio is output from a 5.1 or lower channel All though it would be nice to put all of my MP3 on the PS3. But I think I will end up getting a blue ray player. Unless the ps3 gets updated to allow the DTS-HD decoding. It makes no sense to me why Sony would do this. I guess just to sell more players. Why can't all of this just play happily together.
