  1. Hey all, Thanks to the board, I have a deal in progress on my '84 Cornwalls. I'm also looking to sell my '77s, they sit too often to justify keeping them. Decent used condition, but far from mint. One chip, two light ring stains, and normal light scratches for 28 year old speakers. Can email more photos upon request. Desired Alnico drivers for the horns and sonically phenomenal. Serial #s are 12R401 and 402. Pickup only on these please, unless someone can get a hold of the vaults for shipping. $900. Please email at tidmack@yahoo.com I'm located about 30 minutes north of the IL border near Milwaukee, WI. Thanks for looking and for the help over the years guys! I lurk more than post, but the board has been tremendously helpful. Jeff
  2. Hi Everyone, Ive decided to sell my Cornwalls. The model numbers are 8420155 and 56, CWO. Ive had them about 5 years and am the 2nd owner. These speakers have been extremely well cared for and come with original boxes. There are absolutely no stains in the veneer. One speaker has very light veneer chipping near the top, but its not very noticeable. There are a couple of extremely light scratches, but they are not noticed unless youre a few inches from the speakers. Both speakers play perfectly and have their original drivers and networks. Pickup on these is a must, unless someone can get a hold of the vault. I'm located just south of Milwaukee, WI, about 30 min. north of the IL border. Im looking to get $1,200 for the speakers, with the factory boxes. Honestly, Im not negotiable. Please email me at tidmack@yahoo.com if youre interested. I check my email daily. Thanks for your time and consideration- Jeff Tiedke
  3. paul- Completely my fault. Andy doesn't use his name very often and I mis-spoke. Glad we're on the same page now Jeff
  4. Dean and Bob- Thanks for the info on the K-55X, I was unaware of the similarities to the older K-55's. I also appreciate your input regarding MDF and its use. I am happy to hear that birch plywood is also being used in the construction process. I definitely didn't mean anything negative toward Kelly (HDBR builder). As a former employee, I used to enjoy his stories regarding the various woods used over the years. Others who have played around with new k-horns with cabinetry experience, what do you think about the construction? My concern comes from a select few who swear that the new horns are poorly built. Because I don't have the means to check out a new pair myself, I'm trying to get a concensus (sp?) from the board. Thanks again! Jeff
  5. Hey all: I have a fairly unique "problem." I work in sales part time at a local home store that sells an enormous amount of Klipsch. I have an opportunity to purchase new K-horns at a good price. I've been a die-hard lover of my AA x-over, alnico driven LaScalas for about 5 years. I have another pair of 'Scalas with AL's and the difference between the AA's and AL's was remarkable. So much so that I now fitted my other pair with AA's too. I won't have a chance to hear the new K-horns before I buy. Let's put the cost difference between new and old aside and let's assume that resale will never occur. My question is: will I enjoy new K-horns as much as K-horns with AA's and Alnico drivers? Lastly, is MDF a better product than the plywood used on late '70s-early '80s Khorns? Will new Khorns hold up as well as a vintage pair? All/any input is appreciated. If Kelly's still around, I'd especially like his input on the build quality issue. Thanks!! Jeff
  6. JM, Thanks for the quick reply, I'll hold off on taking anything in since I'm not having any problems right now. Jeff
  7. Hey all- I'm running a Mac 2105 with a MX 113 preamp/tuner. I've had both units for about 2 years and both were serviced (bench tested, cleaned, etc) shortly before I bought them at a local Klipsch dealer in Milwaukee (Flanner's for those of you in the area). How often should I take my equipment in to have looked over? Thanks Jeff
  8. Drop me an email at tidmack@yahoo.com if you still need help. I live in South Milwaukee and would definitely help you out if you need it. My ebay username is "tiedke" if you want references, etc. Jeff
  9. Hi All, I'm on the prowl for some K-Horns, but I prefer to find them locally. There seems to be a decent representation on the board from the WI, IL, MN, MI areas. If anyone knows of a nice pair (prefer Alnico drivers) in our area, please pass some info on to me. Finish color isn't important. I'm willing to trade + cash for either pair of my La Scalas or my Cornwalls (maybe someone doesn't have proper placement for their horns). My La Scalas are '80s and '84's, Cornwalls are '84's. Feel free to contact me via email too. tidmack@yahoo.com Thanks!!! Jeff
  10. Paul- I totally agree with the color. . .kind of "caramel" and they go with almost any setup. Are you by any chance in the Milwaukee area? I'm on the lookout for K-horns locally, so if you come across any. . . Jeff
  11. Hey All- With the day off, I thought I'd scan eBay and noticed these LaScalas up for auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=50597&item=3067609712 I wanted to mention these because I've purchased two Mac amps and other bar related items from Mike in the past. I've heard these speakers too. They're exceptionally clean and have, in my opinion, the best driver setup with the Alnico K-55 and the AA Crossovers. If anyone on the board would be interested in these, I'd be willing to check them out again for you if you're out of the Milwaukee/Waukesha, WI area. Please know that I am by no means related to this sale or Mike in any way, I just think this is an absolute steal considering the condition of these speakers. Good Luck!! Jeff
  12. Thanks to all who replied!! In response to djk, I didn't realize spinning vinyl would hurt my cornwalls. Although I don't hear any noticable distortion when listening, I'm not shy with my Klipsch. . .I play 'em loud. After reading djk's reply, I'm not suprised that I may have cooked the woofer playing a lot of vinyl with the SS Macs. Seriously, I greatly appreciate everyone's help whenever I need it. Take care Jeff
  13. Hi all, I haven't experienced a blown driver on either of pairs of LaScala's or my pair of Cornwalls. . .until maybe today. I was cleaning the house and had my tunes up fairly loud, but not at ear bleeding levels with the Cornwalls. Until today, the Cornwalls have been sitting in a bedroom because of space issues, but I thought I'd swap them with a pair of LaScalas for a change of scenery. Anyways, I noticed that one woofer made a "click" sound on heavier bass notes. Keep in mind that the music was pretty loud, but I've played them much louder without issue. The other woofer performed flawlessly at all levels, and the woofer in question only made noise at higher levels. Did my cone detach from the voice coil? If so, can I still get Cornwall I woofers (k33 I believe)? Any help is appreciated and if further info is needed, just let me know. Thanks! 14. JM, I really need to get out to your place and hear your system. I have your email, so I think I'll be in contact as soon as finals are over. Off topic: I didn't realize the research papers that were involved for graduate school! I just keep thinking "two more weeks!". . . Jeff
  15. Now the big question: Does anyone on the board have any AA networks for sale? I see a set on eBay, but they look pretty beat. The seller was honest enough to say they came out of industrial 'Scalas, so I imagine they weren't subjected to the best of conditions. I've been in contact with Al K. about his ALK, but honestly, I can't afford them right now. Are there any tweaks I can do to the AL's to make them better, or am I better off selling them and using the money toward AA's or ALK's in the future? Jeff
  16. Chris, Do you think the difference with your Cornwalls has more to do with the drivers/networks, or that your II's have the vertical horns? I've never heard the vertical horns, but I've read that the soundstage is very large and the "sweet spot" of the room is quite larger. jeff
  17. Hi all, For the three years I've owned my LaScalas ('86 models), I've always thought my Cornwalls of the same vintage had them beat hands down. I always wondered how guys on the bb could rave SO much about how pronounced the bass was on their Scalas and how good the mids sounded. Even with my horns dampened, I've never been able to get rid of the "ice" with some of the higher frequencies. It's always bugged me. Enter Alnico drivers. . . The difference is breathtaking. I picked up some '81 Scalas out of the local milwaukee paper last weekend for a sweet $500. Alnico mids, but they appear to have the newer k77 tweeter, and AA networks. The Alnico mid is much more evident, but not overpowering, if that makes sense. I'm also amazed by how much tighter the bass is! I'm guessing this has more to do with the network?? My '86s have the AL network. . . For anyone out there asking "does the year speaker I get really make a difference?", take it from me that it does! Has anyone else noticed such a difference in speakers that are supposed to be the "same"?
  18. Guys, I don't usually advertise on the board, but there have been some fabulous discussions lately about McIntosh amps/preamps/tuners working so well with our Klipsch speakers. A good friend of mine in Waukesha, Wisconsin has some great McIntosh gear on eBay right now. The seller, Mike, is a longtime music/audio fanatic who occasionally buys and sells equipment or will list for friends if their equipment is nice. Check out his stuff. If anyone is really serious about anything, I would personally check it out for you and email digital pics of anything I thought was worth noting. I purchased a 2100, 2105, and MX113 from Mike long ago and have been complimented countless times on the condition of my equipment. If anyone's been intrigued enough by our latest discussions of McIntosh, here's a great time to jump on some great gear. Heck, if you don't like it, you'll ALWAYS make your money back on a Mac. Keep in touch if anyone bids Jeff http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=mboersch&
