  1. Does anyone know of a good tube amp repair tech in the Philadelphia area?
  2. Hi Frzninvt, Sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with the MC-30's. I might be interested in these units.. Please e-mail me at stancuff@yahoo.com Thank you Stan
  3. How does the Scott 299D compare against Dyn MK IV's or EICO HF-81; providing all have been appropriately modified and upgraded with premium NOS tubes????
  4. Musical preferences: 1) Soft and smooth jazz 2) Female vocalists 3) Gospel Volume: Moderate to Loud Room Size: 18' X 21' with Vaulted, sloped ceiling
  5. Hi All, Seeking suggestions on Power Amp for current set-up. Considering the following: 1) McIntosh MC-30 monoblocks 2) McIntosh MC 225 3) Marantz 8B 4) Dynakit MKII's, MKIII's, MKIV's - heavily modded 5) Wellbourne Moondogs or DRD's 2A3's or 300B's Looking for something which will mate well with ARC SP3A-1 Pre-Amp. Any suggestions??? Stan
  6. Hi Danny, Consider having Craig from NOSValves to modify your Jolida Amp. I have a Jolida 502B converted to triode with EL-34's. Other modifications included Hexafred fast recovery diodes, Jensen PIO caps, tantulum resistors, bypassing the balance controls, DACT 100K attentuator, some Cardas re-wiring. nice Mullard pre-amp tubes and some Swet EL-34 power tubes. The Jolida with the Cornwalls sound very nice. I've also acquired a re-furbished EICO HF-81 from Craig, and this sounds sweet also. Stan
  7. Allan........I respect your audiophile expertise and advice on equipment. Heck, I think your set-up is superb! But, my friend......use of invectives towards Dean or anyone else for that matter in nonetheless inapropriate and offensive. Please exert restraint. Respectfully, Stan
  8. Kelly/Allan.........perhaps the two of you could colloborate and develop an essential "best" list of jazz "classics" and create a page on Kelly's website. Piecemeal forum post can get buried in archives. This may help those with an interest in building a comprehensive collection. The same might be applicable for the classical genre. Thoughts?
  9. Jeff, If you talk to Steve......tell him I'm originally from Philly. Perhaps he'll take care of a fellow Philadelphian. Oh, BTW are you acquainted with Philly boxers? They can outbox their Canadian brothers? Da fight is on! Watch on HBO!
  10. Hi Jeff, "Nothing can replace Cobalt", Hmmmmm......so for me to obtain the level I seek, guessing I just gotta be patient for the eventuality you speak of. Can I assume that your present inventory contains cobalt OPT's? Perhaps, moondogs or DRD's are an interim measure. Gosh, wish I could afford the Audio Note Japan - Ongako or Neiro and just be done with this poor man's dilemna. Drats!!! LOL Stan
  11. Craig, Thanks for your suggestion. However, I'm kinda not just looking for a "standard" OPT that will "do just fine". Seek something really special (excellant OPT, superior circuit topology, rare NOS tubes) a set-up that will hold me over for a few years so that I can soon transition and pursue a good analogue source - Thorens 125 or Linn TT...and then commence a vinyl collection.
  12. Jeff, OK....if MQ EXO-35 Cobalt OPT's are no longer available and source material is scanty, then what alternative OPT is available tht would be sonically similiar or even superior in your Horus Silver 2a3 topology? How bout Tango or Tamura? What would be a step-up and mate well with your circuit? Any thoughts? P.S. Sorry to hear that you wouldn't consider building another unit. It was a possible thought that if you pursued another build for yourself that perhaps your current unit might come my way. Stan
  13. Kelly/Jeff...... In that you guys are in periodic communication with Mike from Magnequest, perhaps he might have available an extra Cobalt EXO-35, or 36 or the larger 204 ver OPT (whatever applicable). Perhaps, he could make a custom version. At any rate, I was contemplating maybe piecemeal sourcing the parts (as budget allows) and then maybe Erik or Jeff, could consider the build so that all is concluded before Christmas. Possible??? Stan
