"The only real "unknown" is the crossover. I have a custom built pair just for this project. I can modify them as needed."
Perhaps since you are going to be using the same drivers and horns PWK used, you could just use the same crossover design too. The published graphs looked pretty good.
That's a good idea. Will it make any difference that PWK used a K43, K55V & a K600 and I'm using a K33, K55M & a K500?
Thanks,
Tony

Tony, that's probably a safe bet. The LB patent states a 78 sq. in. throat, and we know that the Khorn, LS and Belle all have that as the throat size, BUT still use a smaller slot, the 3x13.
I think if you used a different driver than the K33E, the larger full-size cavity opening would then be in order.

I'm really glad to see you say that. I was hoping that I got it right.

3x13 on the throat. I haven't run any simulations on anything. I'm just "trusting" that it will sound ok. BTW, I'm going with the K500 mid horn instead of the K600. The only real "unknown" is the crossover. I have a custom built pair just for this project. I can modify them as needed.

I'm going to try my best to gain some ground on this project in the next few days. Maybe I'll have pics showing some progress.

A homemade pair of squat (runt) LaScalas just might be my next project after the LB's. I have all the measurements somewhere.

A K600 horn is what was used in the LB76 in the museum at Hope. I remember a former engineer at Klipsch saying that they started with one horn and worked their way to a larger horn... I guess the K500?
Also, there aren't any "wings" on the one at Hope.

I don't know how long this link will remain, but here's a link to an article about Klipsch in Arkansas Business.

It is sort of a headache to build. Before I started I thought it would be about like a LaScala. The LaScala seems so easy to build. The LB just seems like it has some weird building quirks.
I'm almost done with my LB's. Mine are exactly like the factory model except I made mine slightly taller so I could put the tweeter above the mid horn. Pictures to follow.

These are the nicest LaScalas I've seen in a long time. If I didn't already have 3 pair of "industrial" and 2 pair of "home" LaScalas, I'd have these!

I can't believe these beauties haven't been snagged by someone. They're definitely a "designer" pair.

I own Chorus II's and have listened to RF's a lot. In fact, sometime ago, I could have gotten RF-7's for a song, but I turned it down. I just like the overall sound of the Chorus II's better. I guess it's closer to that "Heritage" sound.

I had a small part in a porno movie...
Is your part still small? [][]

I had a (small) speaking part in an ABC TV miniseries about the Civil War back in 1985-1986.

Double post... sorry.

Good looking site. One correction... the first Kipsch pilgrimage was in Feb., 2001.
Keep up the good work,
Tony
Was this the pilgrimage to Hope where forum members were actually in Paul's house? I didn't think that was an official Klipsch event so I didn't list it.
That was the gathering that started it all. Klipsch paid for a photographer, had public relations there and bought us food... I'd say it was official.

Dr Who
Do you have the math/dimensions to build the wood horn?

Now I know why this speaker is called what it's called. It's quite contrary to build. I've been working on a (pretty) "home" pair for the last 4 weeks.
Tony
What's the difficulty Tony?
I'm a stickler for precision. It's just a little difficult getting everything to measure out perfectly. With the other Heritage speakers, I could always go back and study the construction. With the LB, I don't have that luxury. I took measurements in Hope, but I wish I had one to "study" for an extended period of time.

we wanted the cabinet to be buildable and at a profit and Paul really believed in rubber throats
rubber throats? Roy or anyone, could you say more about that? I'm not familiar with this issue, not suprising, since I know little. Have to say I am curious about the issue for speaker building.
Along with the rubber throat, I'd really like to hear more about that pretty wooden horn. I'm going to try my hand at building a pair, if I can get the right "formula".

I like the BBQ idea. I'd throw in for that.

The pictures don't do justice to these beauties... AT ALL!

Bob,
Thanks for the info. I think I'll order a pair to play around with.

Would someone please post the crossover design?
