  1. I purchased the same D\A converter C talks about(CAL gamma) You can get it from sensory science.com for $99.

The improvements in my system were:

TREBLE: the top end was smoother, yet more detailed

MIDRANGE: a little smoother, graininess gone

BASS: sounded more "full". This was what improved most.

IMAGING: instruments were easier to localize. This wasn't as much of an improvement as the others, though.

  2. Well, I finally damped the horns and woofer baskets on my klf-10s. I used rope caulk for both. They now have a more defined midrange which is more forward, but smoother. The bass and treble seem to be about the same. When I only had one done I set my preamp to mono and switched between both, the one without the damping had more of a 'grainy' midrange.

  3. About 6 months ago I had the same problem. I upgraded almost everything, but the biggest improvement came when I got the CAL gamma DA converter see reviews from soundstage @

    http://www.soundstage.com/todd02.htm http://www.soundstage.com/entry07.htm

After I got it the treble was more detailed, but was not harsh. The biggest improvement was the bass. The stock YAMAHA DA was a little thin, but the gamma had very warm deep bass. I didn't really notice a huge difference in the soundstage, it was a little better defined though. The gamma is available on sensoryscience.com for $99 (at one time it was $295)

I would either use this with a CD player or if your DVD player has 2 digital outs you could run one to the DA and one to the receiver and use the analog CD in on the denon for music.

  4. Nice system gamer. I would go somewhere with a return policy, buy the wire, and test it out. If you don't see an improvement return it.

  5. I don't know about the z-series but I recently upgraded from radioshack 12 gauge to Monster MCX 1s and there was an improvement. The bass is tighter and the midrange is smoother, along with a little more top-end detail. I didn't really notice an improvement in imaging. What is your current system made up of?

  7. I would try to bring them both home at the same time and test them out, the KLFs need a good amp to sound balanced. If looks are important I think the KLFs look better with the real-wood-venneer. I auditioned both and liked the KLFs better, I would think for you, since you listen to classical the KLFs would sound alot better, they sound alot more dynamic IMO. Either will be much better then the SB3s though. After I bought the 10's I went and auditioned the 20's. To me the 10's sound weaker in the mids, while I found the 20's too forward in the mids. IMO

  8. I liked my KLF 10's. But with my YAMAHA receiver they were bright. I recently upgraded to the CAL GAMMA, which gave it a smoother more detailed sound, but it was still bright. Then I found an adcom gtp 400 preamp and a GFA 545 mK II in the paper for $300 for both. The guy never used them, they were a gift. The person who bought them for him told him he had to have big speakers because it would blow them up. (POOR INFORMATION HIM = GOOD DEAL FOR ME). So now that I have the D/A converter and the new amp and preamp it has smoother treble, more detail, and warmer cleaner bass (that came mostly after the D/A). So overall I am alot happier with the way it sounds.

By the way does anyone know the what these retailed for.

  9. Sounds pretty good but I think it would be better to get a $500 DVD player and an $800 reciever, you could get the Denon 3801 for 800 online. I have heard bad things about sony receivers especially that one, do a search on the BB there were a few posts about it.

  11. I found a link for one on ebay, it's the same one.

I think I will keep it and use it for my turntable (when I get one), and set it to 4 or 7 dB's.

Do you (or anyone) know of a good turntable for, say $200, I really don't want to spend to much right now, as I don't have to many records at the moment.

  12. The piece you are refering to is the dust cap, if it is paper you could try getting a very thin screw, screw it in so about half of the threads are inside then GENTLY pull it out. Then unscrew it. However do not do this to the cone itself.

  13. I have the klf 10's. If size really isn't important, and you want high sound levels I would go with the klf's, just keep them away from the wall or they'll sound boomy, I have mine about 3 feet out and they have very tight quick bass. When I demoed them both, the RF-3s sounded more on the bright side, and the 10s sounded warmer. I also think the klf's look better as they have oak veneer. If you don't mind ordering online, I would order the reciever from crazyeddie.com, I purchased mine from the site and got it a week later double boxed with air pouches in perfect condition (the box). I wouldn't recomend ordering speakers from there though, as I have heard bad things from people who bought speakers there. Too bad you don't live in fl. sound advice had them on sale for 550pr. (when i bought mine 3mos. ago)

  14. I was looking for a good sounding speaker cable for under $1.50/ft. I was thinking about carol command studio grade, original monster cable, or rat shack megacable. Has anyone had experience with any of these?

  15. I own Legend KLF-10's does anyone know which center channel will be the closest tonal match to these the RC-3 or the SC-1. The KLF-C7 will not fit in the space I have.

Under the speaker matching chart it says the RS-3 is the best match for rears, I have heard direct radiators are better for DVD-A (which I plan to buy), does anyone know what would be good to use (can be 12in. high max).
