  1. I bought one of these kits from Bob and it worked great on my 1977 Heresy I's. http://cgi.ebay.com/Rebuild-Kit-Klipsch-Type-E-Crossover-Network-Sonicaps_W0QQitemZ120300457638QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item120300457638&_trkparms=72%3A1071%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
  2. There are so many choices! How do I decide? Yamaha, Onkyo, Denon, Outlaw, Marantz, HK, Pioneer, etc. I'm sure some of these sound better than others with Heresy III's. I'm guessing not many people with H III's have directly compared the sound on these different brands. I would like the new sound codecs for True HD and DTS Master for use on blu ray - PS3. Yes, I'm picking up my new Epik Knight monster of a sub directly from Epik next week and I'm so excited. Chad is fantastic and he said his subs blend perfectly with Klipsch speakers. http://www.epiksubwoofers.com/KnightOverview.html
  3. Hey guys, I'm looking for the best AVR for my new home theater. I have 3 Heresy III's incoming to be used as front/center and will move my 2 Heresy I's to surrounds. I'm looking for an AVR in the $500-$1000 price range with the new sound codecs (True HD, DTS Master, etc - I have blu ray) that will sound the best with these new Heresy III's. I could spend a little more if the return justifies a higher price. I am currently using a 2002 Onkyo HTIB AVR with100 watt/ch. I am willing to wait until the fall if there are some hot new models coming out. I spoke with a dealer today and he said Harmon Kardon is the best with Heresy's, but he owns 25 year old speakers and my front 3 will be the new H III's. He mentioned that Japanese brands sound bad with Heritage products. Any ideas? Thanks.
  4. I bought a pair of Klipsch Heresy III's from a forum member today. Looking forward to the power lineup with 3 Heresy III's up front and 2 Heresy I's in surround. I noticed they have an option to bi-wire. How much of a sound improvement would I get bi-wiring? I was planning to use some $100 cables I bought from Tweeter in 2002. I can't remember the brand, but they are thick and grey..maybe DMX. If bi-wiring is better, can someone provide a link to cables. Thanks for all the advice.
  5. How much of a difference in sound quality would I get from these set ups: 3 Heresy III's up front, 2 Heresy I's in surround 1 Heresy III Center, 2 Heresy I's in front + 2 Heresy I's in surround. 5 Heresy I's. Are the Heresy I's a close enough or decent match for a Heresy III center? If so, I could save some serious cash to put towards an HDMI receiver with the new sound codecs. I would like a Heresy III in the center for better quality vocals/dialogue as I watch a ton of HD TV, movies, blu ray, DVD concerts, 5.1, DTS, etc. However, they are so much more expensive than the Heresy I's. I'm not sure if the sound improvement justifies the money for all three Heresy III's in front. Thanks.
  6. I've heard the Heresy III's are a major upgrade over the Heresy I and II. Therefore, I at least want a Heresy III in the center for my home theater. My big question is will the Heresy III in the center match two Heresy I's in the front. If not, I'll have to buy 3 Heresy III's for the fronts/center and move the Heresy I's to the surround.
  7. If you can swing an extra $100, I highly recommend the Epik Knight with the 15 inch driver and larger cabinet. Epik amps are based on a different ohm scale than ED so you get more power for the same advertised watts. If not, the A3-300 should be great too.
  8. Are you using 3 Heresy III's as the fronts/center? Or are you using a Heresy III in the center with the Heresy II's as the mains? I own 1977 Heresy I's and was thinking of moving them to surround and getting 3 new Heresy III's in the front/center. However, if I can just buy one Heresy III for the center and leave the Heresy I's up front, I would save a bundle if they are an acceptable match.
  9. Hi guys, I finally made it out to audition some new Reference and Heritage Klipsch speakers side by side yesterday. I was directly comparing Heresy III's and RF-83's for 90 minutes with 2 chanel audio CD's constantly switching back and forth. I liked the Heresy III's much better than the RF 83's for music based on several different types of demos. The RF-83's were harsh and lacking midrage and presence. They seemed to have more bass, but were clearly inferior in all other aspects to the H III's. I am buying a real nice sub so that is not an issue. The Heresy III's filled the room much better with a fuller sound as well. I watch alot of movies in DVD, blu ray, HD TV, etc. Unfortunately, I was unable to test the Heresy III as a center speaker for movies. Has anyone compared the sound of a Heresy III to a RC-64, RC-7 in a home theater for movies? I've heard the RC-7 is fantastic and also popular. I listen to a 80/20 split between HT and music...mostly HT. My room is 3500 cubic feet, but open to foyer and kitchen, which puts it over 6200 if you consider all open space on my lower level. Finally, I will move my 1977 Heresy's to the surround position, whichever way I go with the fronts/center. Here are some options for the front line-up: What is the best solution here for HT and specifically the center channel? Thanks. 1. 3 Heresy III's 2. RC-7, RF-7's 3. RC-64, RF- 63's or 83's 4. RC-7, Heresy III's 5. RC-64, Heresy III's
  10. I emailed him stating I want to buy ASAP for $500. How can I tell if the drivers are in good shape? Is there anything in particular I should listen for?
  11. I emailed the guy with questions and here was the response. Looks like they are from 1975 if the Cornwall code scheme is the same as Heresy. I have no idea how much the unfinished cabinets reduces the value. What about the woofer replacement? Are these still worth $500? 1) The serial numbers are 7N816 and 7N817 2) The speakers are of the unfinished variety. You can see the plywood edges and the stain on the speakers was NOT factory applied. There are a couple of small scratches on each speaker and a couple of chips near the bottom. 3) All of the components are Klipsch. Due to a factory defect, one of the woofers was replaced very early in the life of these speakers. It was replaced with a Klipsch woofer. 4) I am out of town and unable to send pics. I will try to upload some this weekend. Final note. As I said, these speakers are acoustically superior. If you are looking for A+ cosmetics, these speakers are not for you. However, if you invest a couple of weekends into refinishing the cabinets, they will look better than new. And they are a steal at the listed price.
  12. Thx Dave. My room is 24x16 with 9 ft. celings so I figured the Cornwalls would help fill the room. What is a fair price for 1979 Cornwalls in decent-good condition? He is asking $500.
  13. Hey guys, I've been using a pair of 1977 Heresy's for my fronts with a Polk center and junk surrounds. I was planning on building a matching five Heresy 5.1 set for my home theater. I just heard about Cornwalls this morning. A guy is selling a pair of 1979 Cornwalls about 20 minutes from my house. How would the 79 Cornwalls sound as the fronts, with 77 Heresy's as surrounds?....and a 3rd Heresy in the Center? Better than five Heresy's? I ordered an ED A2-300 sub, but it has not shipped yet so I could cancel that order if necessary If I went with the Cornwalls as fronts, would I still need the big sub? Do the Cornwalls match perfectly with the Heresy's? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! P.S. I mainly use the system for movies, concerts, HD TV, etc. Most everything is in 5.1 or DTS.
  14. Yeah thx! I'm so glad you told me about replacing the capacitors and directing me to this forum.
  15. I'm thrilled to hear it works well as a center with no mods!. I have a completely empty cabinet in the bottom of my entertainment center that will hold a Heresy with no problem. I'll probably just buy another pair and sell one off. Thx guys.
  16. I am currently using a 6 year old Onkyo receiver HT-R500 (100 watts/ch) with my 1977 Heresy's. It came in a home theater package for $600. I am running optical and digital coax from PS3 and cable box to this receiver. I bought a new Onkyo TX-SR606 (90 watts/ch) HDMI, which will be here tomorrow. How much of a sound improvement will I get with the new HDMI receiver? I kind of rushed into this decision. I'm sure it will sound better with the advanced sound codecs on blu ray. However, will the HDMI connections (PS3 and cable box) improve the general sound (HDTV, DTS, 5.1, etc) over my current optical and digital coax connections? I haven't rented many blu rays. If the only sound improvement is with the advanced codecs and blu ray, I may not open the box and sell it brand new on ebay. Thanks.
  17. Thanks guys. I just started researching speakers a few days ago. My new Onkyo 606 will be here tomorrow. I ordred an ED A2-300 sub, which will be here in a couple weeks. I also ordered a kit to change the capacitors in my 1977 Heresy's...will be here next week. I would like to confirm the Heresy's are the best choice for my listening needs before I make the offer. I am at a critical decision point since I also need a center and surrounds. My room is 24 X 16 with 9' ceiling. I watch a ton of movies and HD TV....just bought a PS3 and plan to watch blu ray with the new sound codecs on the 606. I also watch alot heavy metal music concerts. Heavy on guitars, drums, base, etc. I like several other types of music as well, but metal is my favorite. (watch others on the Comcast HD music channel). I've heard the Heresy's are dynamic and aggressive, but not very accurate in comparison to newer models. I'm not sure what dynamic and aggressive means in terms of sound. I'm hoping someone could describe the detailed sound differences between the Hersey's and the newer lines of Klipsch speakers, such as Reference or others. If you think newer speakers would sound better for my listening needs, I could always sell my Heresy's and spend a little more on new stuff. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thx!
  18. I think the consensus is that the new Onkyo TX-SR606 is at least as good or better than the Yamana 663, and it's cheaper at Amazon...something to consider. My 606 will be here tomorrow.
  19. Hi, I found a local ad with a guy selling a pair of Walnut Heresy's in "Like New" condition...about 1 hour from my house. The serials are 106U221 and 222, which corresponds to 1980. They look nice and shiny in the picture, but it's not a close up view. I have two 1977 Heresy's as my fronts, and I was looking for a Center. However, I may wind up buying a total of 5. How can I find out if these 1980's have the same components as my 1977's? Mine have K77 tweeters, K55V mid, and K22 woofers. What is the year range that matches my 1977's perfectly? Finally, what would be a fair cash price to offer him if I pick these 1980's up at his house? He advertised them for $600, but that seems very high. Thanks!
  20. I forgot to ask what is the design difference between a front and center speaker. Are there any mods I could perform to make the Heresy sound better as a center. Thx.
  21. Thanks for your reply. I did a search on these forums and using a 3rd Heresy seems to be the most popular choice. I think I will try to go that route if I can find one. My Heresy's were built in 1977. What are the possible year ranges for a 3rd matching Heresy with the same components as mine? Cheers from Aurora, IL.
  22. Hi guys, this is my first post. I own a pair of 1977 Heresy's and need a center channel speaker. I am currently using a Polk CS1, but I have heard it is not a good match. I've also read that the ACADEMY is the best choice. However, those are extremely scarce and I'm considering other options. Le'ts assume I can;t find one at a reasonable price. I've seen a few posts stating a 3rd Heresy works in the center. However, I am a bit skeptical as those were not designed to be center speakers. (would need an explanation). I will be using these with a new Onkyo 606 AVR, which will be here tomorrow. My room is 24 x 16. Please rank the following for use as a center with two Heresy's up front. Also, list other decent options if I am missing something. I am looking for the next 3 ranked best choices after the Academy. Thanks! KV3 3rd Heresy C3 RC-7 KLF-C7 Heresy II - if I can't find a 3rd single Heresy Heresy III - if I can't find a 3rd single Heresy
