I first heard Klipsch around 1981 when a buddy of mine came home from the Navy with a pair of Heresy speakers. He invited me over to his parents place and cranked up "Marie, Marie" by the Blasters. Best pair of speakers I ever heard. Took me awhile before I got my first pair of Klipsch. In 1990 I went to Continental Sound over on Queens Blvd to audition some Klipsch for my first apartment. I listened to Forte II's and said if these sound that good I'll take the next model up, which were the Chorus II's. Paid $1500 plus $100 for some groovy speaker wire and have been thrilled with the sound ever since.
I had two of my buddys help me move into my studio apartment on a Saturday, the bummer was the one elevator in the building was out and wouldn't be repaired until Monday. My boys were not too happy about carrying 90+lbs speakers up six flights of stairs! [:$][
] Let's just say that little incident cost me several rounds of cocktails. -
Congratulations on the McIntosh. That MC-2105 is a beast, remember when you move it: "Lift with your legs!!!"

I can only hope that someone has to sell a minty pair of LS II's, that I could afford to buy. (Still out of my range for now.) Those are the speakers I lust after the most, no corners for Khorns. But to think that the market for ALL assets, including used stereo equipment, has not fallen precipitously is naive. Stocks, Housing, Commodities have all gotten their clocks cleaned. Do folks even realize that oil was DOWN for the year in 2008?
The issue is "Seller's in Denial". My house is worth X because I paid Y for it. No, your house is worth what someone else will pay you for it and not a penny more. As the recession continues to deepen, I hope that the Forum members have kept their powder dry to take advantage of offerings that will surely come their way. Not hoping for difficult times for others but perhaps some good opportunities for those here.

Never heard that one before! I usually wipe down my grill with some oil prior to grilling. It would be a shame to waste a big old Vidalia onion on grill duty. I usually slice one up into 4 pieces, season it with some olive oil, s&p and some herbs and grill it right next to my steak. A natural pairing.

I'll triple dog dare you on the Cornwalls. Great speakers and a good used pair should run you between $600-$700 depending on condition, minty ones slightly more.

Whem I saw the title to this thread, I thought it was going to be about Chateau Bow Wow, which is where I was residing after wheeling in a set of Cornwalls at 11 at night and waking up the wife. SHMBO muttered something along the lines of " Those Freakin' things are enormous!" [*-)]

I saw Jimmy's sister Marian McPartland play at Carnegis Hall, an excellent piano player. Some of her radio broadcasts have been released including the one with Becker and Fagan of Steely Dan, highly recommended for you Dan Fans.

With my 19 year old Chorus II's I have had err, umm, no problems.
With my 10 year old Heresy II's I have had ummm, no problems.
and then there is the pair of 1987 Cornwall II's that I bought, of which apparently, I am the third owner, which umm still sound great.
Nothing to see here, please move along.

Mismatched veneers is the catch. They had a similar program with some LaScala II's, that someone here took advantage of. If you can position the speaker so that it doesn't bother you, who cares? Same guts, same great sound, prices are per speaker.

Thanks guys, it makes sense to stain them first before applying a wax product to the wood. I'll let you know how they come out, probably get to them over the 3 day weeknd.

Quick question about staining my raw oak Heresy II cabinets. I picked up some Howard Feed 'n Wax and some Watco Danish oil natural stain. The question is should I hit the cabinets with the Howards first and then leave it on for a week, before staining them or the other way around? They are essentially untouched since I had them delivered. Thanks for any replies from the DIY crew, I would hate to make an error on my first go round.

Since you say you are not in dire need of the speakers, show him a $350 bid. It clearly is a buyers market and cash talks in this enviroment. Good luck with your bargaining position.

Ella Fitzgerald is the gold standard when it comes to interpretations of the American jazz canon. Other singers may have excellent rendidtions of particular songs, Billie Holiday or Dinah Washington come to mind, but Ella's readings of standards is unsurpassed. Her Songbook series is a must have for anyone interested in jazz. For an excellent overview check out her "Best of the Songbooks".

2 major upgrades for me both accomplished through the Garage Sale section here on the Klipsch forums. Buying Cornwall II's from Preston Tom to swap out my Heresy II's. Cornwalls deserve the acclaim they get.
Buying a 40 year old McIntosh MC-2105 Amp and C-26 Pre amp from HVN, and shipping them of to Mr. Terry DeWick for sprucing up. Swapped these into my weekend house system replacing a venerable Onkyo receiver. Not fair to compare the gear but the McIntosh is really impressive, breathing new life into my Chorus II's. I thought my Chorus were ready for a crossover upgrade, but the improvement in the soundstage with the new/used equipment showed that there is life in the old girls yet. I find myself playing music just a little louder than before, a trend that McIntosh fans seem to have in common. [
]This year I will bring the Cornwalls out to the house as they are overwhelming in my small city apartment and deserve a chance to stretch out a bit. The Chorus will get a break after 19 years of faithfull service and perhaps I will use that opportunity to do some upgrades with Mr. Crites. I'll bring the Raw Oak Heresys back to the city after I stain them with Watco Natural stain.
Isn't this what January (Janus) is all about? Looking backwards on the year that has passed and forwards to the year that is to come? When I put my Garage Sale system together I will post pictures of my '08 purchases. All the best for the new year to the Klipschheads.

Thanks for the heads up Sheltie! As a long time fan of Maxell cassettes, I always liked that poster. Maxells make up 90+% of my 700 cassette collection. XL II S was always my favorite tape.

Watch the Garage Sale section here on the forums and you'll probably come across some Cornwalls more attractively priced than what has been on Ebay of late. Some of the pricing has been fairly unrealistic. $650->$750 should get you a pair of CII's in pretty good condition. Patience, the market is coming your way.
