It's been nearly 8 yrs since I have posted on this forum. I have an old pair of black satin KLF 30's. I can't tell whether it is a vinyl finish, a very thin painted wood veneer or something else. I was hoping for a light walnut color and am not sure what my options are with these. Thanks in advance. Norm

I have an old pair of lascalas that I really like. I have read about all the mods for the KLF 30s. Would the modded KLF 30's midrange be closer to the lascala than it is in the stock form? Sort of looking for a warmer sound than the stock KLF 30. Thanks Norm

These are in decent though not great cosmetic shape. I am not entirely clear what the underlying wood is or whether it is really cheap veneered wood. THe black satin finish is slightly rough and uneven. Can these be sanded/bleached/ stained? I have never personally veneered anything before. I was thinking of dark cherry as a color but don't know what the wood is going to look like after stripping and sanding. Any ideas ? Thanks Norm

Thanks for the reply. I didn't see any link for pics. I would love to see the home made bracing and where it fits in vs the factory intstalled bracing. My KLF's are older without bracing. Also any suggestions for damping material and where to place it would be great. Thanks Norm

Could someone summarize the changes that seem to make the most difference and if it means buying a new part-where to buy it. I have read that the lascallas, the fortes, hereseys sound really good with the HK 430. I have a pair of KLF 30's and wondered how they sound with the HK receivers and whether the HK 930 or HK 730 is a better fit with the KLF 30's than the HK 430? I have a pair of pretty beat up w70s ( at least I think I do) with the wrong tweeters, and a strange crossover. These are square magnet 15" drivers with a curled (convex) surround. I don't know their range. Could they be a good substitute in a cornscala? Just trying to minimize costs since I have them. Thanks Norm

A friend of mine is a good cabinet maker and would build any cabinet I can get plans for. I have la scalas and would like the widest range, deepest and best imaging speaker klipsch made. But, if that speaker is a corner horn, that might not work. Can klipschorns be put against walls and not in corners? Any idea which would fit the bill as the best? Thanks Norm

I have pair of stock KLF 30s. I am wondering what incremental steps would make the biggest and hopefully best improvements to the sound. I have a pair of la scalas and the mid range and treble of the lascalas is much clearer and more pleasing to my taste. Any ideas on ways to improve a good pair of speakers? Thanks Norm

I've been reading alot ( alway a dangerous thing) and love the mid and treble on my lascalas. That being said I have read about cornscalas and thought that they would sound great with all the pluses of the lascala and the deeper bass of the cornwall. Then I came across the bass reflex mod for the lascala. It certainly is a much easier ( and cheaper ) build and reversible as well. How does the bass on the reflex mod ( the ported base you add to the lascala cab) compare with the bass extension and quality of the cornscala. Any tradeofffs? Any downsides. Thanks for any feedback. I have read that the la scala II's were made of 1" thick plywood, as opposed to the earlier versions with 3/4" ply. I have read the the IIs sound deeper because of the stiffer cabinets. Is it feasible or reasonable to glue on furniture grade ply to help deaden the cabinet? It is a pretty beat up unfinished cabinet case. Also could or should this be done to the peaked angled piece in the base cabinet? If this is possible, any suggests on the right glue? Contact cement? Any suggestions. Thanks in advance. Norm

I have a pair of the klf-30s that I like very much. I seem to see more internet posts about the fortes and wondered what the differences are between them . I did go to the klipsch site and saw that the fortes go slightly lower in range, though not by much and klf-30s are considerably heavier. Has anyone listened to both of these speakers, and if so could you describe the "sound" qualities of each? Thanks Norm

Is there any special trick to this? Using a mirror It seems as though the cross over is attache to the speaker brackets on the back and removing the speaker terminals bracket would be suffiicient to getting the crossover out? Am I wrong on this? Do I have to remove a woofer for access? Thanks . Norm

I had picked up a pair of 20+ yr old la scalas that benefitted tremendously from Bob Crites crossovers. Has anyone ever upgraded either the components of the KLF-30 crossover or had a new set built. Any difference in sound in the KLF-30 after upgrading the crossover? I picked up a pair of KLF30s that don't have quite the same sparkle in the mid range as the la scalas, but seem to go a tad deeper. Imaging seems a little less precise and and they throw a slightly smaller soundstage than the la scalas. Is this the nature of the KLF-30 or would they benefit from crossover help? Thanks Norm

I just picked up a pair and see that they have double rear ports. Looked in side and at least in the bottom third of the cabinet it is just empty space . Would there be any benefit in putting poyfil or other "stuffing" in there, or can I assume that this is a stupid question, because if it would have helped, Klipsch would have done it! I just picked up a pair of KLF -30's. The price seemed right but I already have a pair of lascalas that I enjoy, I can't explain my purchase except to say that if you read these posts you probably have the same affliction I do! I suspect their "sound" is different than the la scalas.,and I have some questions for the group. I see that the speaker can be bi wired or bi amped. No jumpers came with the speaker. Would it would better with jumpers and a single set of speaker cables, or would it likely sound better with the receiver I am using ( Kenwood KA-907) hooked up with speaker A connections to the upper set of connects and speaker B to the lower set. Also having read as much as I could find on line, some people say that the KLF-30s sound better with special speaker cables, as opposed to 12 or 14 gauge plain speaker wire. The speakers cost me 300 for those interested. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks Norm

Thank you both for the information, especially to Speakerfritz for the article. I think that I have a "one way" speaker, if there is such a thing. The openings for the mid or tweeter horn are covered over and there is just a plain 12" speaker. Was this a common iteration ( i.e. the cheapest) for the aristocrat, and if indeed that's all I have, how much of the audio spectrum is being missed? Thank you again. Norm

I know this is the klipsch forum but I thought amongst you all , some one might have suggestions on what drivers should go in this cabinet. I believe the one I have has just a 12 woofer without any mids or tweeter. When I look back at EV ads from the old days, it seems to have had many different configurations. Any suggestions from this group on what might sound best for this cabinet? Thanks and I hope the moderators allow this sort of off topic post.
