  1. Well, my home is almost 100 years old, hard wood floors (but they are carpeted - planning on getting rid of the carpet).  I agree with what everyone else is saying....however, most of the people answering have multiple subwoofers.  Your room is on the bright side acoustically (hard walls, floors, glass, pictures with glass, etc.).  I'd treat your first refection areas and I'd put bass traps in your corners.  You more than likely have several room modes going on too. Many people don't like bass traps - I've learned to appreciate them (but what's even better than bass traps IMHO....multiple subs to cancel out room modes and ringing).

  2. Hey guys, thanks for the advice on placement and what not. I'm thinking for the time it would be better to let these ones go and buy another pair down the road when I have a better space for them. For now I guess I'll have to "settle" with my La Scalas.

Schu I'll get some more pictures up later today.

Just realized you had La Scalas!!! Ok you have all the high and mid performance of the Khorn along with its sensitivity.  What you lack is it's bass performance - buy  yourself a couple of subwoofers, tune those in, and you will have Khorn perfomance or better in your room.

  3. Selling the 39s like my Joseph's to much

Sent from my iPhone using Tapataa

As much as I like Klipsch - I've told you before....those Perspectives are addictive!!!!!!! The Pulsars had me hypnotized back in 2012!!!!

  4. You and fate have just convinced me that Khorns are not in my near future :(.  My speakers are currently 7.5 - 8 ft apart (that's from the inside corner of one speaker to the inside corner of the other) - although they would be further apart than your set up, I now believe that my current Cornwalls are the perfect size for my room :). So my K-horn lust is subsided.....but what to do about this La Scala thirst that's building up!!!?

  5. Mine aren't going to look like that... speaker envy! I will probably paint these. Would love to pretty tthem up with veneer, but at this point I am more interested in listening to LS again

To make things interesting...and not that expensive - You may want to try a vinyl wrap on these.  It's removable but it can also last a long time.  When  you want to go back to natural wood - or if you are looking to sell - you or the buyer wont have a difficult time getting the vinyl off :D

    Just a thought.

Vvivid is the brand name the have a site online. :D

  6. I'm still a ribeye man.

My wife had Crab boil today, but my brother has gout and can eat a lot of seafood. What does this have to do with Ribeyes....while the mothers ate crabs and shrimp and the whole 9, we had almost two inch, dry aged, Delmonico Ribeyes today!!!! Wonderful piece of meat!!!
  7. The wife tells me she has a steak to grill, I find no steak. She hands me this; I am at a loss.

let me school you, it's called a Pork Steak. Good piece of meat when BBQ'd

You can treat it like a chop, or like country style ribs....I know how to cook these very well!!!!

  8. I have one more additional upgrade on the way. I have a 2nd Dirac unit on the way...this will allow me to Dirac tune the Atmos channels, and not have to EQ them with the Yamaha preamp.

Question - would you also lose your angle settings for your Atmos channels - aren't those set in YPAO-R.S.C.?  I'm using a miniDSP(non DIRAC) for my subwoofer EQ.

  9. I didn't realize NAD made AVR's I thought they only made 2 channel integrated and amps, that's good to know. The only thing I can see though about the NAD's is they don't have 4k support which I do require.  It seems like no one here really has mentioned Marantz. Is that brand all hype? What do you guys think as far as Marantz vs Pioneer?

I like the Marantz stuff....quality gear in my eyes.

  10. I've done just a bit more critical listening today.  The Khorns are really good for 2-channel because of the way they image and the wide sound stage.

For movies I don't like them as well because of the same reason I like them for 2.0 2-channel, they throw the sound to the outside.  For movies I like the sound to come from the inside out (just to the outside of the TV on each side).  That is not a failure of the Khorns, that is a general speaker setup issue.

In my asymmetrical living room that will probably not get resolved because my TV space is just not conducive to speakers on each side of the TV.

To be honest, they are not better or worse than the La Scala, they are just different in terms of the needs of the room.  The LS sound fantastic, and I probably like they way they sound for a specific reason, I like the horn sound, horn as in brass instruments.  The LS's can be placed anywhere, and the Khorns must have a corner.  Not better or worse, just different.

I think if I had different electronics they would sound better as well, because I am driving these off of an Onkyo 7.2 AVR.  All those people who like tube amps are NOT crazy.

The wife hasn't seen them yet, so unless I get vetoed, the Khorns will stay.  B)

    Patience.....patience.....(just kidding).

  11.

Now I can breathe and stop holding the secret of the transaction!!!! I wish I wasn't distracted by those decorators.....thought I'd save myself a few hundred - oh well.....Patience....patience.... B)   B)

Yeah, it's funny how things turned out.  Mustang Guy ended up making a decision that ended up affecting MY life in a significant way.  I certainly consider have Khorns in my living room a significant upgrade to the quality of my audio life.

But there are other decisions NOT made that did the same thing.  Prerich might have made other decisions in the heat of the moment that could have resulted in HIM ending up with those particular fantastic Khorns.

    Klipsch Forum style.  B)

Yep!!!!! You know how close I was to not putting those up in the Alerts?  However I thought about how much I've been aided by the alerts (B&K 200.7 and Vertical Cornwall and I think one other piece) and the possibility of getting decorators for $500....yep decisions :)

  13. Saw that on the AVS forum. The new owner has been listening to B&W speakers for a while.

Must have been listening to them since his 20's....because he's only 45 years old :)  - which is truly possible, why not - he's a Billionaire!!!!!

  14. I can adjust the EQ with a bunch of EQ tools built into my computer, a home built PC that uses Win7, ASUS motherboard and built-in audio.  The included software is VIA HD Audio, supports 7.1 out of the PC.

The PC then feeds a Sherborn SR-120 AVR which has powerful and highly adjustable EQ built-in.  I am running 5.1 with a hodge-podge of speakers.  The PC has easy to use controls which work pretty well, but the SR-120 can fine-tune much better.

Does the EQ itself matter so much, or does it matter more where in the signal chain the EQ should go?  What does the Klipsch collective recommend?

    +++

    L/R Klipsch CF-4

Center -  (BIG mismatch here) DIY center which has a 15" woof and 12" horn HF section is MUCH more efficient than the CF-4's as the Cheap Thrills center completely overpowers the CF-4's.  To even out the sound I used my ears and the SR-120 to controls to increase the CF-4's +3db and turn down the center -5 db.

Side Surrounds - DIYSoundgroup Fusion 10's which I haven't gotten working yet.

Sub - DIY Dayton Audio Reference 15" sub

I can tell you that using the PEQ's in Jriver can trump the SR-120.  However everything will have to go through JRiver as well.  Since this is a receiver - and you are not using preouts....let the Sherbourn do its thing.

If you were running everthing through JRiver - I would use that.  If you are running different sources - I'd run the Sherbourn for everything but the sub....I'd get a miniDSP for that....Having great success with mine!!!!

  15. Just checked Ebay to see if the decorators came back up!!!! That was a sore move!!! I was going to win at $500!!! Seller cancelled his auction and then relisted the item - this time with a buy it now of $1700 (which I will never do for black decorators) and now the seller has a reserve on the auction as well!!!  If  you have a price in mind - just put it up there and be honest from the jump, don't put up a no reserve auction if you're not willing to take the risk of not meeting your ideal price!!!!  <_<
