  1. Great discussion going on here. I really appreciate everyones opinion and suggestions. My local BestBuy is a Pioneer Elite seller so I will see if I can get a hold of an elite model. Set it up in my own environment to give it a fair shake. I may just grab both models and do a true comparison and return the "loser". I sure like the look of that Marantz though.
  2. Thanks for the replies, everyone. In the past I have thought about going with separates but I like the idea of having everything in one unit. Separates might add more power but it also adds more hardware and I'm not really interested in that. I think I'm ok with an all-in-one AVR. One of you mentioned a "metallic" sound with an Onkyo unit. I have also heard this from a friends setup and it's something I really didn't enjoy. I found the highs to be rather harsh and fatiguing after a while. I'm sure environment plays a huge role in the sound but I would defintely prefer to avoid that sound. In saying that though, It sounds like the whole warm/cold debate is very much a subjective one. Much like speakers, everyone's ears are different and will hear different sound. I think my current Denon has matched well with our Klipsch. I am also starting to see some nice sales on the Marantz 7009. I think I'll probably go with a Marantz. I'm more familiar with Audessey and the sound should be siimliar to what I have now. I could see me going with the Pioneer and not being happy just simply because of the "new" sound and having to learn MCACC. I also find the Marantz aesthetically pleasing. I love the minimalist front display. Cheers.
  3. Hello Gents, My current receiver has a bad terminal so I have no choice but to get a new one. My current unit is a Denon 891 which I purchased from BestBuy. Doing my research I have read a lot about how some receivers can be warmer than others. I am wondering if this is a fact or is it just internet chatter? I am currently looking at the Marantz 7009 or the Pioneer Elite SC-89 but I've read a lot about how Pioneer can sound a bit harsh with Klipsch speakers and that Marantz might be better because it is a warmer sounding unit. My current speakers are the RF82s, RC62 with RS42s x 4. I also run an SVS PB12-NSD with the sledge amp. Does anyone have any opinion on the whole warm/cold sound? Is there a noticable difference in sound processing between Marantz and Pioneer? Cheers, Mike
  4. While it may have been harsh It certainly wasn't my intention to trash his system, more trash Klipsch and there recent sub offerings. I'v eowned the 12 version and it was a cheap piece of crap. Too each their own. Like I said the money would have been better spent elsewhere. I'm not going to sugar coat my feelings just to please the rest of the blind Klipsch followers.
  5. Schu, if you're that impressed with a cheaply made piece of crap you would be knocked unconsious by something worth the money from a company like SVS, HSU... etc. My guess is you've only ever owned that level of subwoofer so it's not really your fault. You have no idea what you are missing in terms of build quality. You could have done so much better for your money, but too each their own. Rock on!
  6. I actually gave the SW112 a test drive but it was a very short ride. I was very disappointed with the performance and build quality of this sub. Shocked actually! I'm such a huge fan of Klipsch speakers and can't believe these have the same brand name of my RF-82's. I quickly returned it to the store and ordered an SVS after much more research and mental debates. You pay a little more for an SVS or similar but boy do you ever see it. "willland" said it best so I'll echo his post... your setup deserves a better class of sub. You'll really be regretting it later on if you don't do it right the first time.
  7. Very true, mustang guy... I wish they would just do away with the actual subwoofer department altogether. Out of respect for Klipsch, who make fantastic speakers!, I won't post my opinion in this thread anymore. I've been quite negetive about these new subs from Klipsch and don't want people to get the wrong idea about their other superb offerings in the speaker section. I guess it's because I'm such a loyal supporter of their speakers that I am so vocally disappointed in the way their subwoofers have gone.
  8. You are right Stephen. I'll also throw out build quality to go along with those numbers. As a previous owner of the SW112 all I can say is if the SW115 is anything like it then it's not worth your time. It really is hard for those who have never owned a quality subwoofer before to understand the difference but those new SW subs from Klipsch don't deserve the Klipsch badge. Cheap as cheap can be from the woofer, to the box, to the front grill and even those inserts that hold the grill in place. It's a giant sawdust box worth of crap. Even of the performance numbers are decent I would again look elswhere because of build quality. I think most people who post on this forum know what I'm talking about and I'd be willing to bet that the majority of members don't have Klipsch as their sub maker.
  9. I agree with neo, even when Klipsch has produced a worthy subwoofer it's usually at a price point much higher then an equal or better alternative.
  10. Yeah the RSW-10D was an all around fantastic subwoofer, not just in performance but the thing was so sexy looking.
  11. SVS just came out with a newer revision of the PB12-NSD in Nov/Dec 2011 which is smaller all around then the older design. It also comes with a new 400w RMS sledge amp that is supposedly a really good step up from the older BASH design.
  12. Except for the RSW's, first generation and the only second generation the RSW-10d(which I own). The RT's are of high quality but the retail $$$ was pretty high for the performance offered. I agree the RSW andRT subs were high quality subs but I'm not sure Klipsch makes those anymore. I know I haven't seen them in studios or online in quite sometime. I was simply going by whats avaliable today and today's offerings from Klipsch are crap. Sorry to be so blunt or "harsh" but it's true. I think they need to do as you suggested and bring back the RSW/RT design with modernized features or scrap subs all together. There are just way too many dedicated sub manufactures now that can sell much more sub for far less then Klipsch usually list their subs for. Even on a half off sale I find Klipsch subs underwhelming. If you own a Klipsch sub and are happy with it I am happy for you. My point isn't an attemp to trash another person's system. Basically I'm just saying there are far better choises out there then a Klipsch sub and I highly doubt anyone around here is going to pay for the SW115 when they could get an SVS or ID alike that would leave it in the dust.
  13. Nice job, Dysmae. Nice clean setup. I'm still not, and probably never will be, a fan of the cold "grill-less" speaker look though....lol
  14. You won't find too many people buying Klipsch subs today. The flatout blunt reason is Klipsch subs are not all that great, at least not the latest generation subs anyway, especially when compaired to what you can buy elsewhere for the same or less money. Klipsch make great speakers and there use to be a time they made good subs but compaired to whats out there now I'd say Klipsch aren't even on most peoples mind when it comes to buying subs. The only time I hear of somebody bringing home Klipsch sub in todays day is because it was included as part of the speakers they just baught. I tried the SW112 for a short while and thought the thing was garbage. Noway it deserved to be in the same room with my RF-82 system. I replaced it with an SVS PB12-NSD, which was give or take the same price as the MSRP of the Klipsch, and the SVS blew the Klipsch away. I'll say it again hoping to not be flamed by the fanboys. Klipsch make great speakers, I own and love everything about my Klipsch speakers, but their recent sub offerings leave a lot to be desired. Heck I'd take my old RW-10 over what Klipsch has come out with recently in the sub department.
  15. How big the room you're trying to fill is probably the biggest question and the answer to that will answer your sub buying question. FWIW, I own the RF-82, RC-62 and RS-42'a and went with the SVS PB12-NSDeven though the SVS wizard(or what ever it's called) suggested I go with the PB-Plus. I have never felt for one second that my PB12-NSD was lacking. But my HT room is also my living room and is of normal size. I would say unless you have an overly large room then the NSD series sub will be just fine. Again though, room size is everything.
  16. Check out a movie called Daybreakers. It's a great movie for a Sunday afternoon and has a great 7.1 DTS HD track.
  17. I also thought Book Of Eli was great. Not only was the sound good but the cinematography was top notch. All in all it's one of my fav's in recent times. I don't buy many movies but Eli was one I had to own.
  18. For what it's worth, I use a pair of RS-42's as heights and they do the job just fine. Would bookshelves sound better?...well I am not sure but all I can say is that I am happy with the job my 42's are doing... Much easier for me to mount the RS's on the wall as apposed to RB's.
  19. Congrats... The cherry is such a classy look. Enjoy
  20. IDK, something still doesn't like right.. maybe it would look better in my rack?..haha.. Seriously though, that looks a million times better. You've done an amazing job putting together a great environment there.
  21. Sounds like you're happy. I take it you don't find it as bright as the pio sound?... Any chance you can take that "bright" windows badge of the front?..haha
  22. Don't forget to post some pics of your new setup once you get everything all hooked up. We all love pics around here.
  23. That's a great package! Well done.... lol..guys and their toys, no patience..
  24. Yep.. I'm using RS-42's and it's a simple wall anchor and screw situation for me. It's been over a year and I don't think they've moved..or have they!?
  25. I can't comment on bannana plugs as I'm of the camp that believes a bare wire connection is the way to go. I went to Home Depot and picked up some 12g speaker wire from the bulk section and am happy. I was using some monster wire that I picked up before I knew any better and detected no difference in sound at all.
