  1. Youth try 60hz, thats what was recommended to me and the rf-83 are more than capable to play there and lower.
  2. I have the xpa-2 and xpa-5 for my speakers and I run the rf-83's in the front with the rc-64 center and the rf-63 for my back channel and rc-62 for the side. Ii will tell you it made a big improvement in the quality of the speakers performance. Very good investment for sure. And the match well with the klipsch in my opinion. Go for it and dont look back. Best bang for your buck, next to your speaker purchase.
  3. Ok, I spoke to Ed Mullen the technology director of SVS and I asked him if he could explain things so he sent me the below email. Hope this clears up some of the sub and crossover settings confusion: 1) The low pass filter should always be disabled at the subwoofer (the AVR will be low-passing the signal being sent to the subwoofer). 2) The phase should always be set to 0 at the subwoofer (the AVR will be setting the acoustic distance for the subwoofer). 3) None of the speakers should be run on full-band/full-range - they should all be bass managed, even floor standers. There are rare exceptions to this general rule - consult with SVS as needed. 4) Select a speaker/subwoofer crossover for each channel which is appropriate for the bass extension and dynamic output capabilities of that speaker - typically 40-60 Hz for floor standers, 60-100 Hz for bookshelf and center channel, and 80-120 Hz for surrounds. These are just guidelines - each case is unique. Also note some older AVRs lack the ability to set a separate crossover for each channel. In cases like this, consult with SVS on the best global crossover which will work with all speakers. 5) The 'LPF for LFE' (low pass filter for the LFE channel) should be set to 120 Hz (the industry encoding standard for DVDs allows content in the LFE channel up to 120 Hz). The speaker/subwoofer crossover selected for each speaker channel is separate and independent from the LPF selected for the LFE channel - they have no bearing on each other. When all of the above steps are performed, the subwoofer will receive the LFE channel, and the redirected bass from each speaker channel below the speaker/subwoofer crossover selected for that channel.
  4. I think there is more than me learning here!!!! Good info!!! SO if sub is set to 120hz and mains are at 60hz the mains will still play down to 60hz before going to sub correct? The sub wont cancel that out since it is set to 120hz.
  5. I could very well be wrong but I would think they would suggest 120Hz for both your pre/pro and for your sub xovers. Just seems too high to me. But then again, I'm not an audiophile either. They were telling him to turn off the crossover on the sub and just use the crossover on the pre/pro. No reason to double up, and it's better to let the AVR do the work so it sends the correct frequencies to the correct speakers. BINGO! that is exactly what they are trying to do thanks for explaining it.
  6. You see in my chart for the svs at 20 hz it plays from 19 to 150hz. why would they make it so high if it couldn't be used? That may be why svs said to set it at 120. They recommend that you turn the amp crossover off on the sub and just let the pre/pro handle the crossover and not have double or conflicting settings.
  7. **Frequency response graph does not denote maximum output capability. 2-meter ground plane away from reflective structures (quasi-anechoic) 20 Hz Mode: 19-150 Hz +/- 3 dB 16 Hz Mode: 16-150 Hz +/- 3 dB Sealed Mode: 26-150 Hz +/- 3 dB So if I read this right I am in the 20hz mode on my sub and they say it can play from 19-150hz? I put the umc-1 sub setting to 120 again.
  8. I wrote down what svs said to set the lfe and that was 120, but he also said to turn the sub cross over off and turn the dial up to 120 on the sub. then he said thet the LFE to 120 on the receiver. I will double check that tomorrow. I did not know where to set that in the receiver but when he says LFE he is just talking about the sub crossover on the receiver right? I had it at 120 for a bit and it seems good. I have the mains and center at 50hz now. The sides and back rf-62's are at 60hz. Boy am I feeling confused!
  9. the sub cross over is switched to off but I have the dial to 120. so you say that the umc-1 sub woofer setting should be set what my mains are or a little higher? Youthman remember what I do for a living, and I will give you a hint in case you for got. Its not the audio industry! LOL I need system set up for dummies!
  10. Ok what should the umc-1 sub woofer be set at? Where my fronts and center cross 60hz or something else?
  11. sub crossover switch is set to off but I have the dial up to 120 Max. per svs advise. the umc-1 should over ride the sub anyway I think but the subs crossover is off. the umc-1 is set at 120 for the sub now.
  12. Ed from svs suggested that I set the LFE to 120. Is that the same setting you are talking about in the umc-1? I did not know where to make that adjustment at if it was on the sub amp or in the umc-1? I am thinking its the umc-1 now? So I shhould set the sub in the umc-1 to 120 what svs recommended? Or go for 150?
  13. Sorry all speakers and sub are crossed at 60hz now on the umc-1. You are saying to go into the umc-1 and set the sub to 250hz? Thats what emoq set it at but someone suggested I lower that.
  14. The R+L can be crossed over at a certain frequency, center at another, and surrounds at yet another, so long as the receiver has the capability. But I am confused at your comment of sub is 50. The sub low-pass should be disabled or set as high as possible. The cross over on the umc-1 for the sub woofer is set to 60hz. All the other speakers are also crossed at 60hz Am I doing something wrong here? I dont see a sub low pass setting or switch on the sub.
  15. Below is some email correspondence between Ed Mullen of SVS and myself about sub woofer finish availability. Just an FYI if you are in the market! [Ed Mullen] At our current run rate, we'll probably run out of AC PB13U inventory in about 8-11 weeks. We just sold a container load of them to Japan - if that happens again then it will shorten that time. (ME) You are sure that once the cherry sells out that svs will never no longer produce a cherry sub? [Ed Mullen] I'm not fond of the word 'never', but we have no immediate plans to re-up AC or Nat. Oak and will be moving forward with black oak and gloss black. (ME) What about the rosenut that I have now? Will that ever be made again? [Ed Mullen] Same answer as above - we have no plans to re-up rosenut.
  16. Thinking about ordering another svs PB-13 Ultra sub in the American Cherry wood to match my klipsch. Should I try and run two subs? Or move the rosenut svs somewhere else or put it up for sale?? Decisions, decisions!
  17. That picture is a little grainy and seems the lighting was not the best to really tell. the klipsch in the picture looks lighter than my speakers and the svs looks like its more red it that picture to me. So I was hoping for some other photos of it if I can.
  18. I am thinking of picking up another svs pb 13 ultra. I am interested in the american cherry since I have the klipsch speakers in cherry. I would like to know how well the cerry sub and the klipsch cherry finish match? And if someone can post some quality pictures of the sub finish? Thanks, then I have to decide if I should sell my other svs pb13 ultra or keep it?
  19. should your sub and fronts and center be crossed at the same level or it does not matter if, your fronts are 60, center is 70 and sub is 50 for example?
  20. Wow...doesn't surprise me though. EmoQ ins't that great. Start at 80Hz and work your way down until you find something you like. What are your mains set at? I think I havethem all at now at 60hz
  21. Whats a good crossover point for my svs pb13 ultra to be set at on the emotiva? emoQ sets it at 250htz.
  22. Ok here is something funny, I have my audyssey mic from my onkyo so I plugged it in and the speakers test ok and so did the sub, what is up with that? Anyone looking for a svs pb ultra 13 in rosenut I may be selling mine to get one in cherry to match my speakers.
  23. Yeah mine are except one but if I switch the wires it tests ok, should I leave them alone ( wired correctly) Or switch them so the emo Q sees them as ok?
  24. What is slope? I will have to rerun the setup again tomorrow after work. slope is all at 12. I know nothing about that or what it does or should be set at.
  25. I was setting up the emo Q and I noticed some speakers said reverse and at least one said Ok. What was that? Is something wired wrong or what?
