  1. Haha, oh buddy, all I have is TIME. I think the first on my list is the turntable and power. I'm bidding on a pair of Quartets on ebay for just about $100 shipped. They aren't in the best shape, but they work and they have the tactrix horn. They will suit my sound needs until I can grab a pair of MINT Forte IIs. I can research a good turntable pretty easy, but the power source is something I will need help with. How do I know to go with the seperates or vintage?
  2. I live 2 miles from PA. If you sell those forte II's, I'll buy them! []
  3. I'm saving up money to have a room dedicated to listening to music. I simply can't enjoy listening to music in the theater room. It's too small and just not the right environment. So now I am looking to set myself up with : A receiver or amp, cd player, vinyl player, & forte II's. I don't have forte II's right now, but that seems to be the speaker for me (still open to suggestions though). If we were to pretend I already have the forte II's, and my budget was about $1200, what route should I go in terms of a good record player, cd player...and also...what is the suggestion for power as far as using forte II's is concerned? Thanks in advance for the help! I am very open to buying everything 2nd hand.
  4. very interesting... like calibrating a television, i do it so that the image is as close to what the producer wanted it to look like, not necessarily what looks best. i guess i would feel the same about music, but the bottom line to me is that the level i'm at with my equipment...no speaker wire will make me hear a difference. I tried romex, I tried monster, and I tried radioshack and honestly...the difference was so subtle that I couldn't tell.
  5. http://www.virtualdynamics.ca/the-oddiophile-ep-9 Would switching from the standard stranded cable I'm using now to solid core wire make any difference in a KLF 20?
  6. Hmm. I have them at about 9.5" from the rear wall now. They do toe in a bit, so it's more like 9" on one side and 7" on the other. I had them much further from the wall at about 2-3 feet and they actually sound better where they are now. It's a 12x12 room, is it odd that they sound better closer to the wall?
  7. I have all speakers set to 80hz...the LFE set at 120hz, settings all to small and sub to LFE+main. I tried just using the LFE and it sounded pretty weak. How far from the wall would you recommend puttin the 20's?
  8. I've gone through a ton of threads about why to set to small or large and what frequency to set speakers to, but it seems the best help came from people stating their system and people with experience with a similar set-up give their input. So...give me some input [] I have a newer receiver that has more frequency settings than I've dealt with before. I also never had such good mains (KLF 20). First off...does 2 channel stereo and HT use the same settings if you are using the same system for both? I'm confused if I set the sub setting to LFE or LFE+Main. Do I set them them to large or small? What is the best frequency to set the 20's to?
  9. I have the Dish Vip722 and use the HDMI output. I recently added the sirius music channels to it and they sound just as good as a cd as well. I'm a little disappointed you can't listen to the talk channels but the music channels are still cool. They sound pretty good.
  10. Premium service online vs. the satelite radio IS a night and day difference.
  11. I went through the same thing and ended up subscribing to the premium internet service. Satelite radio through the premium service is clean and sounds just as good as a CD. Any other way you try to hook up a sat. radio...it will sounds crappy to me. I bought a tuner box for my car thinking it would sound better, but it didn't. I listen to it, but it doesn't sound so good. The best thing to do is sign on to sirius via a blackberry, and hook it up to the receiver in your car. It will sound like a CD if you subscribe to the premium service for an extra 2 bucks/month.
  12. haha...my girl is LOVIN me after finding this forum (yea right). "Why do we need to drive 4 hours to spend another $500 on speakers!?" Me: klipsch is awsome. I'm looking for a start. I've always used SS AVR type stuff. My recent discovery of klipsch has changed how I think about things now. Should I use my Denon 2808 as a pre/pro for a good tube amp? I don't know how much to spend, or where to even begin. I'm thinking the amp will eventually be pushing something like forte IIs in another room...and more than likely...there will be no sub for a while. I'd like to get a little more out of my KLF 20's right now, but I don't know if something for under $500 will sound that much better than my denon.
  13. If I had a bigger budget I would go nuts with all these ideas. It's only me and my lady in our house, but the house is huge. Right now the HT is in a 12x12 spare bedroom, which seems to workout perfect for theater, but it does seem a little wierd just hangin out and listening to music, since there are only 4 seats in the room. I need to dump a lot of money into new hardwood floors in the living room, but it is a huge area with a fireplace and I was planning on adding a two channel stereo set-up in it. I just didn't know how involved to get with it or if I should just keep building into the HT room and use it as both before I go buying stuff for another room. Right now I'm set-up as follows: KLF 20's, KLF C7(soon), RW-10, S-3's Denon 2808CI DMP 35 BD player and a sweet 61" samsung DLP Should I look into a tube amp for the KLF's for now?
  14. I was curious how many people seperate their systems. One for home theater, and one for 2 channel stereo. I notice that sometimes when I want to listen to music...I don't want to be sitting in front of the tv in the room dedicated for watching movies and stuff. And on that note...if you were to put together a SIMPLE...good, moderately expensive 2 channel stereo, how would you go about it? Forte II's, good tube amp, CD player...done?
  15. Having my music set-up as follows: KLF-20's & a RW-10 sub run through a Denon 2808CI...what would you suggest as a power amp to run in line with things. Mainly keeping in mind my budget (just based on what I already have). Will spending a few dollars be worth it in my case? Off topic, but I just picked up a pair of KG-4's for real cheap from a pawn shop and they are amazing! I can't say enough about how awsome they are for the cost. I had them downstairs with a crappy sony AVR, and it got me thinking. Should I have gone with Forte II's instead of KFL 20's for my main listening area. The RW-10 mixes perfectly with the KFL-20's...I think I'm just in a Klipsch craze. [*-)] Didn't see the other posts before this one...I like the ole hank of lampcord and my denon for now.
  16. Thanks for the advice. I had an older pioneer elite AVR, which I replaced with the $1200 Denon and right away I noticed a huge difference. Once I added the KLF 20's it sounded even better. I just can't imagine (for the money) what I could do to make this current 2 channel set up sound that much better.
  17. I just bought a pair of KLF 20's from veloceleste (thanks), and first off...they are awsome. But I have also been reading and I don't understand what is different/better about using tube amps with these speakers. Right now I have them running through a Denon 2808CI AVR, which sounds pretty awsome to me. Will they sound that much better if I use a tube amp?
  18. ...yea that deal on the RF7's went fast. Having never heard a lot of these older speakers, it's hard to judge what I will like. I'm willing to take a chance through the research I've done prior. I just like hearing more opinions right before the purchase. I think what the quartets and forte's sound like, will be more of what I am looking for. The reference sound is good, and I do like it...but the crack of the bass drum for bands like Primus or even older Black Sabbath...even with the really expensive reference stuff I've heard...it is always lacking to me. Having been offered RF82's almost brand new for less than $700...I still think I'm opting for a bigger sound. I have found KLF20's very close to my house for even cheaper than the RF82's...but once again, I don't know if I'm better off with the $500 quartets or the KLF20's. Feel free to try and pursuade me...this is all new to me, and this will be my first REAL set of mains. EDIT: I'm about 1/2 a day away from purchasing the pair of Quartets for $500. My thought process, is this: buy the quartets and also pick up the forte I's for $200..or just purchase the KLF20's for $700. This is where i'm at right now.
  19. oh yea? My options are much more confusing now since I opted for the "used" route. How about this: KLF20 for $700 or RF82 for $700? I'm waiting to hear back from the guy with the Fortes. And I'm also waiting for a response from the guy with the Quartets for $500...so I'm still wieghing oh so many options.
  20. woops. yes, that is KLF. yea, someone on craigslist is selling a pair of fortes really cheap. he's local enough to where i'm trying to contact him to check them out.
  21. After a LONG time researching, I have narrowed down my choices between the 4. KLF 20 or 30 possibly KLF 10 Quartets Forte / Forte II RF-7 I have found local guys selling Forte I for pretty cheap. (200-400) I found two guys selling quartets for (400-500) the KLF 20 and 30's seem to be around the same as the quartets (300-500) even some KLF 10, but they seem to be going for the same price as the KLF20 I listen to mainly rock and a lot of metal. I like it loud and the bass strong, punchy and in your face. Taking into consideration the deals on the speakers listed. What should I go for??
