Some of you may rmember my posts about getting the RF series in lieu of the KLF 30's. Well my HT is finally done and here is what I have: 1. Yamaha RXV-3000 2. Sony 61hs30 HDTV 3. Panasonic RP-91 progressive DVD 4. Yamaha CD player 5. RF-7 Fronts 6. RC-7 center 7. RS-3 front effects 8. RS-7 Rears 9. RCW-5 rear center 10. 2 Subs- ARS 300 and an older KSW 200 I am comparing this to my older KLF series that I had and the KLF 30. First Music: Tried a number of cd's. Some sounded fantastic some just OK. There seemed to be not as much puch as the klf-30's but they did sound much more precise and very very detailed. I think these speakers adhere to the Garbage in Garbage out principle or Quality in Quality out. The RF-7 seemed to give me EXACTLY what I gave it while the KLF's tended to add a little more emotion I think. Dont get me wrong, I actually like this aspect of the RF series just not with older bad recordings. My newer CD's sounded awesome while some of my older stuff was just OK. Again these are very precise speakers. I will say that 8 channel stereo with the RS-7's are sweet. Now Movies: This is where these babies SHINE. The KLF30's may be the rock n roll speaker of choice but for movies the RF series sounded way more detailed and exact which is important for movies. Star Wars: PM is absolutely unbeleivable with these. I mean that!!! In fact, all my DVD's sounded great. And the surrounds (RS7), are really really effective. Conclusion: I think these are definately HT speakers and I am very excited to have purchased them. While music does sound great with them , to be honest I expected a little punch for music. which suprises me since they do have tremendous puch with movies. I have the following. Yamaha RXV3000, RF7's,RC7 ,RS7 surrounds, RCW5 rear center and two subs. When calibrating the speakers using avia at the LFE test section, where a signal is sent to each speaker and the LFE at the same time the following happens. I have all the speakers set to large. 1) main and sub- Sub sounds great 2) center and sub- NO SOUND from SUB 3) RS7 and sub- NO SOUND from SUB Now when I set the center and surrounds to small I get plenty of sub sound. Why is this?? I was under the impression that the center and surrounds (especially the RS7's ) could be set to large. Any advice would be helpful as to what is going on. Thanks in advance! I noticed that most klipsch speakers have always had a black plastic crosshair thing stuck in the horn. My RS7's have it as do my older klf-20's. Does it have a purpose? Is it just for looks? I have been around and around on this one for a while but I think I am closer. I have the following: Yamaha RXV3000 Front: RF-7 Center: RC-7 Front effects: RS-3 Rear: RS-7 Rear Center: ?? Sub: AR300 Now what should I get for my rear Center? I thought about doing in-walls or in-ceiling because several people have told me to use direct radiating for this but I do not feel like cutting a hole in my wall or ceiling for one speaker. Thought about the RC-3 too. But it is just to damn big to hang on my wall or ceiling. My wife would kill me. So this brings me back to my original idea of using a RS-3 and selling the other one. The RX-V1 list's for $2,600 while the 3000 is $1,600. I got mine for $1,300. The 3000 has 8 channel stereo and two Sub woofer line out's and better binding post's that the rx-v1 does not. there are also a couple of more features i can not think of right now. I actually called Yamaha wondering the same thing. If the RX-V1 is there top why not these features. They told me it was because when the RX-V1 was made that these features had not been designed yet and where just now put in the 3000 because it was just designed. I would suspect Yamahas upgrade to the V1 will have these. Now, the V1 has a few things as well that the 3000 does not. Bigger amp 110 instead of 100 and Burr Brown Dacs on all 8 channels instead of the front 3. I guess it all comes down to features that you want. I loved the 8 channel and two sub output so I went with the 3000. Plus the diff. in sound to me was not that diff. But that is just me?!? ------------------ Paul Graber gedwyn@mpinet.net

I question how much sound really comes out of the rear center?? I have the following RF-7, RC-7 and RS-7's. What should I use?? Another RS-7 or a cheaper RS-3?? Or a RC-3?? Yes the RX-V1 is there top of the line. However, the 3000 is there newest unit and has a lot of features not found in the Rx-V1. I just got a 3000 and chose it over the RX-V1. Why: 1. Cost 2. Features 3. When listening to both I just did not hear that big a diff. in sound to justify the extra cash. ------------------ Paul Graber gedwyn@mpinet.net

Hmm. Several people with a complete 7 series have told me to set them all to small no matter what. Including the RF-7 mains. Set every speaker to small and let the subs do what they are supposed to. How do you feel about this??? I have not tried it yet. But I will. You said that the RS-7's can go lower but the Freq. range on both is the same so how can they go lower?? Thanks for the reply. Just a plug for Yammy here from my point of view. I have had a 2095 for quite some time and now own a 3000. I have to be honest. I think there is a big diff. between the high end Yammys (RX-V1, 3000 and 1000) and low end ones. I think yammy is you get what you pay for. I think Yammies higher end models can not be touched by anything but there lower end models you kind of crappy. I have heard this from other people as well. Maybe I am wrong? I would do this. But I will want to hear the RF-7's to see how they sound maybe. Maybe they do sound better??? Then the deal was good. I have heard aluminum cones are very sweet sounding and exact. Ok. Here is the deal. Traded in my C6 and KLF-20's for some KLF-30's and a C7. The KLF-30's where ordered but I have been told the plant ran out before my local dealer got the order in. He admitted it was his fault so this is what he is proposing to me: He will take a big loss and give me the new RF-7's for the same small price I paid for the 30's. Or I take my 20's back and start over. here are my issues: 1. Never heard the RF-7? better then the KLF-30's? 2. I have a C7 which matches the 30's. Do I need a RC-7 now to match the RF-7's?? 3. I got a pair of SC-3 for my surrounds. Will these work for the RF-7 or do I need the new SC-7?? 4. Am I really getting a good deal here??? 5. Why can't this ever be easy. More scenarios and questions. I have the following up front: KLF30's and C7. Will probably get RS-3 or RS-7 rears for back! Now for a rear center I am either going to get a SCW-3 or the RCW-3. If I get a SCW the cone mterial will match my front 3 but not my backs. If I get the RCW the material will match my reference rears. So the question is should I keep all 3 in the back to match or go with the lower price and get the SCW because the diff in sound will not make that much of a big deal anyway.. I would love another pair of KLF30's too but here is the problem! 1) I do not have $1,200 2) Not enough room even if I did. 3) have to have ceiling mount.
