  1. I bought a pair of 61's that I used for a short period of time and then gave them to a friend for his birthday to use as rear's and they are very nice for that, but I wouldn't use them for mains, even with a sub, but I would give a listen to RB 5's with a nice sub. I run this in a secondary room and it's wonderful, and you can pick up the RB 5's for less than 61's and they blow the 61's away IMO.

  2. Incredible work Mike! You are on my list of people that I will be asking for techincal assistance when I start my Jamboree build. I may have missed it in the thread but do you have any idea what your total material cost ended up at and how many labor hours you had into your build? One other question would be if you could have had one additional tool that would have made the job easier, what would it have been?

  3. I'm glad I have this forum for advice on what to use because when it comes to crossovers and the electronics end of it I don't know what I don't know. Does anyone know of a good reference manual or software program on speaker building (the electronics part), and crossover design and building? It's something that I would like to start educating myself on now.

  4. Is there anyone who builds Jamborees for sale

    I do.

I'm assuming that you have built the Jamboree's and if I'm not mistaken, I have read through some of the threads. So what direction do you think I should go? I'm really leaning to the Jamboree's and building the bass bins and then using one of the crazy round horns that I've seen in other posts. I really want to keep the finish Black and Copper as I love the look of the RF speakers and have some ideas on how to bring that look out on this build.

You can't go wrong with any of them as far as sound goes. I prefer my Jamborees over my Klipsch Jubilees, but they are both awesome. The MWM's are huge and huge sounding. I think they really need the right room to shine. Jamborees or Jubilees would be more flexible. The best sounding speakers I own are my modified Khorns.

I'll be interested to see what you do with the aesthetics, please post photos when you build them.

What did you use for the drivers, horns and what crossover worked best in your Jamborees?

  5. My 7's wore me out the first couple of weeks, but I think that was just me getting adjusted to the clarity of the highs. Now, I'm searching for more of the same, and I would suggest just listneing for a while and you will like what you like and what ever you decide will be right for you.

  6. I paid just under $600 for the pair. He had the NOS Valves invoice and he paid almost that for the rebuild. Not a "garage sale" deal but considerably better than I've seen the occasional MK4 pair go for on audiogon. MK4s don't show up for sale very often. When they do they're either completely tricked out and BIG $$$ or totally trashed. These are a nice compromise. I'll be able to do some work on them to dress them up. I have no doubt that I'll get every penny I paid back out of them should I decide to sell them at some point.

The clincher for me was that these were local to me. OK... an hour and a half away but I didn't have wonder what I would receive from the brown truck. That and the seller had them hooked up to a really sweet pair of Cornwalls (mint 76 CWOs) to audition. About 20 seconds in to the second song I was pulling out my wallet.

I have a line on a pretty nice ST-70 at $450 or a pair of MK3s at $800. The ST-70 puts out 35w/ch and the MK3s are 60w. I can hook you up if you're interested.

I have an interest to say the least.

    I do.

  8. IMO, I would take that budget and concentrate on the mains. In the long run, that will be the biggest factor regarding your audio pleasure. For your budget, you could pick up alot of great speakers and just take your time and build on it as financing allows. You have to make the choice for audio or HT first and then go from there.

  9. Welcome to the group. Match your center up if you can, but I have run multiple center channel set ups and don't believe that it's as critical as some may say. IMO if you're into audio, you want your mains to be something that you really enjoy first. You have a great sub, let me know if it's too big for your set up, I want another one.[:D]

  10. I can either get a full 5.1 F-3 setup or a new 46 inch LCD TV....Should I keep the speakers that I have and get the TV instead or will the new speakers be worth it?

What's your overall budget? What's more important to you? LCD's will continue to drop in price especially right before and after Christmas but right now there are alot of people dumping out of some very nice audio gear and there are deals to be had if you have patience and want to end up with a better set up for half the price and buy clean used equipment.

  11. If you can do a 'jaunt' over to Buffalo, which I presume is closer to you than Knoxville, we could hook you up for a listen with MikeT who has Jubilees. I don't think he has LaScalas... he might have Khorns though. He's probably the nearest to you followed by Colter in Indy and MikeB/Myself here in Knoxville.

I just love volunteering other peoples homes for auditions Big Smile

Buffalo is about 4 hours, but I think I'll wait for Mike to make the offer [*-)] Just to add to the mix, I have a set of plans for Jamboree's that use 2 15's in each.

  12. I'm really getting the itch to do a winter build and I'm not sure which way to go. I'm completing a remodel that will leave me with a wide open living area that is 25 x 30 with vaulted ceilings so space isn't an issue. I would like some opinions from people who have listened to all of the above. I have plans for the Jube's but haven't see any plans for the MCM's. Your input is appreciated!

    Pete,

Where are you from, and maybe we can point you to the right direction for an audition. I have auditioned all three extensively, and I would choose the Jubilee, but I am told the K-402 horn on top of the MCM Bass bin sounds even better by a man that has all those speakers and more. I agree with everything Coytee says. YesWink
