  1. I've owned alot of Onkyo gear, TX 805 is the most current and I have no complaints, if fact I was looking at the same 905 on e-bay, just to get a few more watts of power, which is going to be the biggest difference in the receivers. I don't think for that amount of money you will find much better in new equipment. If you haven't owned Onkyo equipment in the past, just know that you need to set it up where it has proper ventilation, I even run a small fan behind the receiver to keep things cool, as they run very hot.

  2. I just had the same thing happen and ordered a botlle of glue from e-bay that looked like the same thing that was sold on partsexpress for speaker repair, it was just a few bucks cheaper. I removed the entire dust cap and glued it back on and the speaker is fine. FYI, this was my first dust cap repair and I don't claim to know anything about properly repairing speakers, but I did sleep at a holiday inn express. If someone can give some more technical advice, then I will be reading it also, but this worked for me and it sounds fine.

  3. OK, so you have a choice to go out and purchase a new Emotiva XPA 3 or 5 lay out 600-800 bucks, the one question that I've asked before and I'll ask again, is can you get more for the money buying a used amp that is in perfect working order and if so, what used amps would be in the running?

  4. I'm sorry I didn't find your post before this or I would have gotten involved. I've been building for 20 years and I'm a finatic about decks, and though there are times where you can do substituitions for various beams and joists, they all have to be based on load calculations and common sense and I hope your builder gave you info. to support the change, let me know if this whole thing is done or if you're still dealing with it and I'll try and provide fair information.

  5. Thanks for taking the time. That's what I thought, but I've been out of the game for a while and Quad was hot when I did this in the past, and now there's just a lot more stuff. The only follow up comment regarding this is that if I wire it straight forward as you both agree is the best, I can't run the RF 7's on full signal and I believe they sound better when they're set that way, it cuts the sub out??????????????????

    Thanks Again,

    Pete

  6. I have a velodyne 1215 and I want to wire it into the system to produce the best results. My main speakers are RF 7's and I'm running everything with an Onkyo TX 805. Should I just keep it wired up straight from the back of the receiver (single rca out) and they y it into the Velodyne or should I then come out of the sub and feed the RF 7's and use the crossover in the sub? I do have the ability to change the signal that is going to the RF 7's through the Onkyo from full range on up, so I'm not sure if using the sub to send the signal will do anything to improve the quality of the sound. I mainly listen to audio and occasionaly some movies but my main concern is the audio quality. I would also like to ask if there is any reason to bi wire or bi amp the RF 7's. I have looked through as many of these threads to try and find the definitive answer to some of these questions but haven't found what I'm looking for.

  7. I'm looking to get a seperate amp to drive my RF 7's and Center but I'm looking at trying to stay in the 500 to 1,000 range and pick up something used that will be a major improvement over using my old Onkyo to drive those and my Newer Onkyo tx 805 to drive the rest of the speakers. I've owned some Carver equipment back in the day and I've been looking at everything from older carver stuff to newer Sunfire gear. I'm of the school that I don't mind a few cosmetic issues on the used gear if it allows me to end up with a system that I couldn't affort to put together new and it still sounds great and can be serviced. Just looking for some suggestions based on what you people have experienced. Also if anyone has owned a Sunfire Sub I'm curious on any opinions on that.

    Thanks!

  8. I thought I was wacked about some of this stuff. LMAO, The article was interesting, but I'm not going to go out and buy expensive cones or wood, I'm just going to keep adding speakers and more equipment in search of the holy grail. This audio stuff is truely a sickness.

  9. I just picked up a pair of rp 3's dirt cheap and was considering using them on either side of the tv for center channel's or running them as rear mains. Has anyone done anything similar to this? My question is about how to wire these in and not damage my amp or the speakers. My amp is rated to handle down to a 3 ohm load and I've run it at 4 with no problem but the sub's in the rp's are rated at 4 and in my mind even if I run them in series, the subs have their own power supply and It shouldn't do anything, but I only know enough to get myself in trouble, so I wanted to ask the question. The second question is the best way to wire these speakers in and after reading the manual a few times, I'm still not sure what the best way would be to hook them up. I'm also running a velodyne 1250x and a pair of rf 7's for the front. Just looking for some advice.

  10. I just joined this site so I'm just telling you what I heard a couple of weeks ago while visiting an audio store. I heard a def tech (definitive technology) supercube 1 against an RT 10 and the def tech in my opinion blew away the rt. They list for around 1200, but I'm searching and have seen a couple under a thousand. I think you have to listen to them and decide, we all like different things.
