  1. well, guess what. i fixed my issue.

taking rivernuget suggestions, i switched on "quick load" and also updated the firmware. the discs load a lot faster now.

but i'll keep an eye out on the PS3, looks like it's something i might want to have in the ht/movie room.

Very cool. My Sony S350 is similar with load time. Having that quick load toggled 'on' helps a lot. I'll eventually go the Oppo or Playstation route. Didn't know the benefit of having analog outs when I bought my Sony. Always more to learn and this Forum is where the knowledge is.

Good idea updating the firmware, smokarz. That's something I never think of. Everyone's toilet will need firmware upgrades in the future!

  2. 1993, at Sound World in Wausau, WI - I was 17. Me and my friend Dean would always go to this Sound World location mostly because the salesmen, Layne, would let us listen to anything in the store. We'd bring CDs and he would show us what's new. Very animated and a Klipsch Head all the way, he really didn't seem to care if he sold anything. Not many audio salespeople give 17 year-olds the time of day, and here Layne would tell us all about speaker efficiency, folded horn design, etc. He was a great guy. At the time I had a bi-amped Panasonic shelf stereo system (still have it!). It was short on bass, so Layne told me how it could work with a Klipsch sub. He allowed me to bring in the Panasonic and try it out. I bought an SW-8 within a month after that, and it's still in use today with my computer. That was my first Klipsch purchase - a sub.....kinda weird.

Anyway onto the Heritage. At some point that year, the store started selling Klipschorns. Dean and I stopped in, ready to listen to a few discs and talk to Layne, like we always did. He was ecstatic and HAD to show us these beasts. We were amazed, absolutely blown away by the sound. I've always remembered that moment and haven't heard KHorns since.

I've been using Reference gear since '01. I bought Forte II's in December '09, my first (extended?) Heritage purchase and have been enjoying them immensely. I know it's just a matter of time before moving up to Cornwalls and beyond.

  3. 3.2s side.

I have a pair of Walnut KG 1.2s, and can do a photoshoot in the next couple days.

Gotta find them, but I also have older pics of oak KG 2.2s (with our sofa in the background I think). Doing another shoot is out of the question - they're at a relatives house out of state.

Didn't want to clutter this thread with too many pics, yet. If these 3.2 pictures are what you're looking for, I'll post some of the 1.2s and 2.2s.

  4. Will this allow me to compensate widely for the differences in efficencies and give a better center - maybe with a wider spread (one RC-7 vs. two RB-5s)?

    KIA

Yes it should blend your front stage (L,R, & Center) so it is seamless. I'd go with the RC-7 as well. Better to have a more efficient center than more efficient mains, IMO.

  5. I have a pair of RF-82s in our basement, in storage (I know, a sin), all packed up in their original boxes. They are currently on their backs with woofers pointed to the ceiling, puzzle-pieced under our stairs.

Is this orientation OK? Am I going to open them up after storage and find distorted surrounds because of gravity? I looked for posts in the archives relating to this, but came up with nothing.

    Please, your thoughts.

  6. Yes, my Onkyo gets pretty hot and it is a fan. I got it from buyextras.com/cocofankiscs.html and it's the Sony S-flex 120mm ultra quiet fan with a power supply adapter. It's really quiet and plugs right into the back of my receiver.

Excellent! Gotta get one of those for my HK. Thanks for sharing.

Very sweet setup ya got there. [Y]

  7. I don't think a Crites-modded Heresy I would be overkill at all, but others will chime in soon with more wisdom on a Heritage HT.

We have one black cat with front claws. When he was under a year old, I made a scratch post and introduced it with cat nip. With that intro, he's never scratched a speaker. Don't know if this works with cats that are grown and set in their ways.

  8. How's about resurrecting a two year old thread.

Clutch is a band I've been listening to since '95. Very good, thick rock and roll with a combination of barked and sung lyrics. A great band that deserves a listen. 'Blast Tyrant' is one of their best efforts. Here's a discography.

Some songs on myspace, check out '50,000 Unstoppable Watts'.

  9. It was a pleasure to meet you Dale. Very glad the 4s went to a good place!

I had the them hooked up this past week while they were listed on Craigslist, and going through those 'why am I selling these' thoughts. Told Dale when he came to pick them up, I was thinking, "if no one calls or emails, I'll just keep 'em [:P]".

Love the KG series, and the 4's are exceptional.

  10. I'd suggest getting a different receiver along with an external amp. There are many older (4-5) year old receivers with preouts that are very affordable now. You'd most likely be without HDMI. I'm using a Harman Kardon AVR 525, it works very well for my needs. Here's one on Ebay, shipping is a little high though. Look into Craigslist too, great deals without the shipping.
