My parents said I loved switches and buttons when I was little. I guess I still do! My Dad mentioned one time how he almost made some kind of switchboard for me. My son is 2 1/2 and is always playing around with the lights and anything else. So I took a few trips to Radio Shack and put together this switchboard. Ended up being more expensive and time consuming than anticipated, but fun too.
Building the box was simple, however I'm not knowledgable with electronics and with that it was a hit and miss creation (burnt out more than a few LEDs).

Emotiva's UPA amps are within your price range. Have you looked into those?
wuzzzer can tell you how well his setup improved with a UPA-2.

I've seen Behringer EP2000's powering KLF-30s in one forum member's system. Info

......so when the wife punishes me, thats where I am sent (oh darn)....... and I don't disturb her.
In your man cave, is there a decibel level cap? []

Since you already have the resistors I suggest just moving forward with the original plan. It's simple and straightforward and allows you to hear the results of attenuating the horns in short order. After you've determined whether you like it or not, you can try the other design if you feel compelled to try it. I would seriously consider changing out the capacitors while you have the boards out. It needs to be done, and doing it now will save you a trip back into the cabinet later.
Thanks DeanG,
I understand the capacitor replacement procedure from reading from the Forum archives. Could you (or others) please direct me to appropriate caps replacements. Parts Express? I know there are different ones to pick from.
EDIT: I found appropriate capacitor options. Just had to look around the archives a little more.

Emotiva gives you 30 days to return it. From their website:
Emotiva offers a 30 day, no questions asked and hassle-free, return policy. Simply call 1-877-EMO-TECH for an RMA number. Once we have received your unit(s), checking to make sure they are intact, we will issue a refund for the full purchase amount. It’s that simple!

I've noticed my Forte IIs also sound a bit weak and lifeless at low volumes. Doesn't take much on the dial for them to come alive.
Let me know how your 'new' Fortes sound.

But this is better if you have K-55-Vs and K-77-? tweeters and shows a more even impedance to your amp.
Thanks John. Haven't had time to do the mod yet. My Heresy does have the K-55-V and K-77. So after moving Taps 3 to 2, and 2 to 1, are you saying bridge Taps 5 and 0 together with a resistor? I bought a pair of these resistors per Bruce's suggestion. Is it acceptable for this bridge? Also, I do not know what is added to the negative squawker line (0.35 to 0.40 mH).
I should really take a couple classes at the Tech here in town. [^o)]

Try posting this question in the Garage Sale section of this forum. May get more feedback there.

Thanks for the article. I particularly liked his comparing tubes and solid state. I haven't heard Corns yet, but this test report makes me drool and anticipate even more. This line sure is a compliment:
"Klipsch loudspeakers are immortal! They will be out of date only when the laws of physics change."

I think a good place to start is "Jimi Hendrix - Blues" (that's what I'm getting first). I bought it when the CD first came out. It's worth it just for the acoustic blues stuff on there (and you can have some fun with your blues afficionado friends with a "who is that playing"game).
"Blues" gets my vote also. For the acoustic blues AND the cut 'Born Under A Bad Sign'. That is an amazing version.

Hee, same here. Sounded like you hate Cornwalls. []

Those QSC's are powering your 7's all around and your 35's? Using Pro amps has facinated me lately. I know source material can mess up this question, but are those quiet? Any hiss with no music playing?
-
Curious now. May I ask how they were modded? To achieve what?
-
Pete, are those RB3's or 5's back there? Nice []

how's madison these days? I was born there but haven't been back in my adult life.
-JoshI've been in Madison since 2001 and love living here. Few of the pros coming to mind: College town (though I'm a decade beyond that now), bike friendly, a lot of CSA farm options, good lakes for fishing. Not a huge city by any means but big enough to get touring artists.
A few years ago they built the Overture Center downtown. Very expensive and it took out a lot of local business on the first two blocks of State street. Created some controversy but it is a very nice venue.
What brought you away from this wonderland that is Madison? I've noticed for a lot of people (me included), it's hard to stay where you grew up. Did you want to live in a bigger city?

Thanks for the advice guys, this is truly a great forum.
If they're not too expensive I may get both 63/37 and 'silver', then solder speaker wire together and see how the learning curve goes. With the crossover I'll go with the lower melting point to stay on the safe side.

Yeah I want to see the room size with those beasts in there.

i agree, it's better to make your audio purchases based on the furniture. having speakers that are sonically matched for your front stage is a bad idea anyways ..
Man that's some ssttiicckkyy sarcasm.....wrong side of the bed? Easy goes it!

In addition to Youthman,
I think you can set your Academy to large also.
The Denon's default subwoofer setting may be sending low frequency effects to your nonexistant sub instead of your Fortes. If you set it for no sub, you may get more low end.

Dare I ask........a baby?!?

Here is a forum member selling a pair of 81's for $450.
Let's fuel the madness!

Thanks Josh.
Hard to believe. I am out of questions. I have a soldering iron from the bronze age, so it's time to score a new one at the Shack. The only soldering I've done is when I made a little switchboard for my young son, so he can turn lights on/off. Even put a little buzzer in there too. It's a great toy for him - I'll find a picture somewhere and post it ('cause I know everyone is chomping to see it).
Oh wait! I DO have one more question. There are many types of solder. Any recommendations for this application?
Thank you Bruce and Josh for helping me along on my first mod. You guys rule!
