  1. I've been wanting a pair of these for some time now. Finally.....

The only issues are a couple white dust spots on the right grille and an impacted dust cover on one of the passives. Those were in the Ebay pictures, not a result of shipping (yes they were shipped and I held my breath until arrival!).

After unwrapping them, it's time to go to work [:@]. Listening WILL happen very soon. More pictures to come.

  2. May one expect get substantive responses at this site, or merely auto-generated spamlettes? Under the Mercy, William

I'm relatively new to the forum and the people here have helped me with every question asked. Rest assured, you'll get worthy responses. One of your tags was 'Dope from Hope'. This PDF may help if you don't have it already. And....I hope it's ok for me to post this.

    Welcome to the forum!

  3. Yes I thought it was a well done movie. Tense throughout. Michael Mann movies are good overall. He has a talent for making the bad guys almost more appealing than the protagonist. Another Michael Mann film, Heat, is a wonderful movie - highly recommended.

  4. I had the exact experience two days ago with Public Enemy. It was a DVD from Netflix. I kept having to back up the movie and turn up the volume to hear dialogue. Then when gunfire blazed, it was extremely loud, more so than other movies. Very annoying.

  5. I'm also glad to see heavy & thick music fans. Yukon, I know you mentioned Heresy IIIs or RF63s. If you're ready to drop that coin then this may not interest you, but KG 4.2s do metal very well. Couple those with Papshawn's recommended vintage Marantz and you'll have a great system. I've hooked up a Sunfire Cinema Grand (200 watts/channel) to my KG 4.2s and they pound very well.

With your mid size room, a well amplified 2 channel setup may be enough without a sub. It can always be added later. Everyone's bass threshold is different, so I can only speak for myself.

Papashawn, did you see Coalesce has a new album out?!

  6. If your RF-52s have four binding posts per speaker (two red posts connected by a flat metal piece, and two black posts connected.....) , you can bi-wire. You would remove the two connecting metal pieces, then power the upper pair of binding posts (treble) and the lower pair of posts (bass) seperately. Depending on what you are driving your speakers with, wiring this way will give more detail. You can use a multichannel / HT amp or use a bunch of mono amps.

  7. If prespliced means the insulation removed at the ends for you, it's easy to DIY. Most wire you buy doesn't come that way.

You asked how many wires. What do you mean?

Here is a good option from Monoprice:

If you are biwiring your RF-52s (not sure if they have dual binding posts), here's an example of what you need:

  8. I see so that's powering your sub. There are a couple S1000 on Ebay for around $230. Add $20 more for adapting XLR to RCA, that's a good price for the wattage. I've read so often here on this forum to use tube amps with Klipsch. Hard to go the tube amp path with all these other options to try at a cheaper price. Or am I wrong to assume tube amplification breaks the bank?

Thanks again for the diaphragm tip. I'm comfortable swapping speaker components so it will be fun! Bob's titaniums are out of stock for now, but I'll keep checking for availability.

  9. Thanks for your feedback and advice wuzzzer. Once I get some more 'mad money' I may change to the titanium diaphragms. I can ask him directly, BUT, since you're here....Does Crites send them to me and I replace them myself?

Totally unrelated, but what brought you to purchase your pro gear Samson S1000? What is it's output at 8 ohms? I've been searching for an amp for my RB-81s. The old NAD does alright but I'd like to have some more headroom. I hooked up the Cinema Grand to them for one afternoon and they opened up very well. The Samson poses another amp possibilty I hadn't thought of being pro components.

  10. Your words "Music and audio is not that important" doesn't compute on my end. All the senses are important, yes, and I'd hate to lose any of them. I just love music and how it moves and inspires me. You mentioned Van Gogh. Music and sound reproduction is art for the ears - just as important as visual art.

  11. I've had Tinnitus in both ears for as long as I can remember. In my childhood I remember going to sleep and having to reassure myself it's just the sound that happens when nothing else is making noise. Don't know if it's hereditary, but my grandfather and oldest brother have it too. Anyway it doesn't affect getting lost in music and enjoying all the aspects of audio. I'm very carfeful about noise levels and have earplugs everywhere. It's a small precaution to take and being consistent in using them can be daunting. With all there is to listen to it's worth it!

  12. Very glad for your success! Well done. I hope the problem was in the rubber surround and the buzz/rattle is gone. Isn't waiting for the glue cure the hardest part?!?

Not to rain on this parade, BUT if there is still a rattle problem it might be the voice coil rubbing. Very fixable and I can explain step by step how to realign it. But hey, you won't need to do that because it's FIXED. Enjoy those 5.2s!

  13. I have seen SW12 parts on Ebay here and there in the past, including the amp. Keep checking and one should come down the line. You can also put out a want ad here and on Craigslist. If you wait for months and nothing appears, you can part out your SW12 and sell on Ebay. There might be someone out there looking for what you have.

It's doubtful Klipsch would have replacement parts any more, but give a call. They are very helpful.

  14. With my experiences fixing voice coil buzzing, I've had to remove the plastic ring you're talking about. Coming from the magnet side of the basket(back side), you can use a flat head screwdriver to wedge in between the plastic ring and basket (screwdriver is now perpendicular to the woofer surround). Now move the screwdriver handle away from the magnet. This will pop the glue joint in a small section of the ring. Follow this glue joint seperation...gently.. until you get all the way around.

I've done this with three woofers of different ages. The older the speaker has proven to be a more brittle glue, making the process easy. One that popped off well was an SW12. Another that was more tenacious was a KG 3.5 - that ring did chip in one place (grrrr).

This is what I've done without any council so......I'd appreciate other comments.

    I hope this is helpful.
