  1. My wife has an Itouch 2nd gen. But I dont know squat about microphones. What would you suggest that look for that has compatibility with the Itouch?

Or what microphone do you have that's working properly and what would I have to do to make it happen for me?

This just amazes me to be honest. Thanks for sharing.

  2. Lacquer thinner is the best cleaner/paint remover I have ever found. Literally blows acetone away for some scientific reason I have forgotton now.

Autobody shop taught me about it 20yrs ago and I keep it around just for cleaning those stubborn problems.

  3. The Art system is advertised at .01 THD which seems good. Might do a good job. Its tempting for me to try it. I read all the reviews on it and they were mixed as expected. I'm gonna investigate the Goldwave software to see what it can do in this regard.

Seems like every few years I revisit this idea. Its going to take some serious time to convert several hundred albums to wav. or MP3 files. I know you can't wait forever with technology but I keep wondering whats around the bend. I would like to put on a record and this device along with software automatically make hiqh quality MP3 files with artist/title tags in place. Seems like that has ALMOST arrived, but not quite. I know Iphone has that technology in some way.

  4. I'm with you on the ringing Fritz. Had that for about 3yrs now. There's a thread about it "tinnitus" going on over at the AL/JBL site.

I'm tempted to try earplugs all day even at home to see if the ringing stops at night. Its not too terribly bad yet, but can certainly get annoying.

Is there anything a person can do about the ringing?

  5. Standing on the flightline during all those F-4 takeoffs and flyovers is getting me back!

I've continued reading about this in old threads and "Colen" stated a few years back that although you cannot hear the higher frequencies they do have harmonics that make their way down into what you can hear and make that better so to speak. Reckon thats the case?

Im starting to think alot of folks spend money trying to get back something with $$$ that can't be bought. Thats hearing loss due to age and wear. I'm guilty of this myself it seems.

  6. I've been working on my speakers around here. I'm 2 channel only. Felt like my Heresy IIs not up to snuff or something. Well according to this little dilly I'm missing something alright. http://www.dak.com/reviews/3203story.cfm

My wife, son and I played the audio tones there and I can hear all the low ones and up to the 12K but not the 16K. [:'(]

My wife cannot hear the 12K even. My boy says he hears em all. So I guess I just about don't even need a tweeter! Maybe I should be thinking two way now.

Maybe EV had it right with the T35 tweeter dying at 16K after all. I'm kinda discouraged with these finding. Brings up an interesting question though. Can anybody even hear 20K ??? 12K sounds real high IMHO. No wonder we like bass as we get older. Thats what we can hear the best.

  7. Thanks Daddy Dee. Im real happy with the horns. I think they will work out fine for me. The drivers are suspect of course. I have not listened to them yet. Im guessing I can mount them in the horn, hook em up straight to a low powered amp, and have a low listen without crossover for a test. The seller is not interested in taking em back. I have a bad habit of trusting people and this time it may have bitten me a little. Don't really want to file a claim and have to earn that money twice, etc, etc.

Now the guy did say the horns and drivers were in studio monitors together???

I noticed US Speaker has a 3way crossover 500z & 3500hz which might just work out with an Eminence APT 200 tweeter.

Just to experiment I have active crossovers that might just help me figure it all out. If I have to bail on these I might try the Selenium D250X drivers from parts-express.

As one might suspect, we have limited funds and this is a project that will be pretty much cobbled together with less expensive parts. May end up being more of a Frankenspeaker than anything. That said, my 5yr. old and I are gonna have some fun no matter how it turns out. [:D]

  8. I cannot find any info on em as siren drivers either. I guess female vocals will really wail !!!. [;)]

As for as the impedance, I figured Atlas can make that whatever for whoever.

They were on Ebay. Here is the auction. Did you email this guy?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=180330175440

Seller states "they have that classic smooth sound" ....I guess thats when listened to from a war zone bunker.

I'll be hookin em up and tryin em anyway. Might be music to my ears.

  9. I picked up a pair of these for my Cornscala project and wondering if these will be suitable to cross at 500hz? If not 500 I suspect 600? The horn is 12" deep and the opening is 4.5" tall. The guy I got these from said they were in studio monitors. I also got two drivers that look like Atlas PD5 VH with these horns but the drivers have a bolt through the center of the back. Any thoughts appreciated.
