  1. Hi Bob, Thanks for posting those T/S Specs, been looking for those a while also. What did that woofer originally come in? I bought a pair of the KP-28E woofers as a replacement for blown units in my Forte's, did a quick a Fs with an audio generator and resistors and got a similar figure, about 38Hz. Therefore this does not seem like a good fit for the Forte'. I took a chance and bought a pair of Eclipse (Eminence) W1238R woofers from Madisound and they are much closer to the K23, or K25 based on the published specs. The magnet is quite a bit smaller than the K23 or K25 also, but possibly bigger than the K28. As far as sound quality and bass, the Eclipse unit is a closer fit to the original Forte'. Has anyone found another replacement woofer that works well with the Forte' and Forte' II?
  2. Hi Speakerfritz, I will give it a few days to see if anything local turns up, if not we will have to see about a deal. I am not sure about shipping the La Scala's, I have shipped Altec VOTT's before and it is not fun.[:'(]
  3. Hi Michael, They are buried deep within the pile of audio gear in my basement, it used to be a matter of shuffling things around to get to anything but now I will need to have a buddy come over to help me get to them. As for the cabinets, they are not the split version, seems like they are the pebble finish you describe but without the corner guards, condition is good, just some paint rubbed off in a few areas, with the black paint it should be easy to match. The crossover is a type AL. Also, the difference in weight is greater than the woofer can account for, I think this version is double thick in a few spots most notably the bottom. Also, why does you contact information at Klipsch not appear on your posts anymore?
  4. No takers? I guess I will give it to the weekend and then use eBay, bummer... I would be willing to drive four to five hours to meet someone, it will just make an audition difficult.[:^)] Dan
  5. Hi Speakerfritz, No, these have rounded corners, no aluminum, and appear to my calibrated back to be quite a bit heavier than my old natural birch home editions. I love the sound, but the WAF is really low on these.
  6. I have a pair of industrial La Scalas, they are in good shape 1988 model, AL X-Overs, K55M, K77M, they have the factory painted black finish. Will trade for Chorus, Chorus II, Possibly Forte's, KLF30's. Please PM me or post your ideas. In Denver area, so some kind of local deal or someone willing to drive would probably be the only way to deal as I am trying to avoid the eBay hassle. Dan
  7. Thanks for the replies so far. Please keep them coming, anything interesting will be considered. Also, I would like the drivers and either or both pair of horns to go as a package deal. Thanks
  8. I would like to trade my Altec 902-8B's and either 511B's or 811B's you pick, for Klipsch parts. I am most interested in Forte or Forte II but let me know what you have.
  9. This question is one I have been seeking an answer two for quite a while, so I finally set up my own test. Equipment is as follows: NAD 372 integrated amp 150 x 2 Old school Denon CD player for initial AB comparison followed by home brew triode tube amp 8005 outputs, about 25 x2, and hafler DH200, and Dynaco ST70, for longer listening periods. Speakers used were 88 vintage Forte's, 92 vintage Forte II's, Tangent 500's, 78 vintage Cornwalls, and finally, don't laugh, they are suprisingly good, Cerwin Vega DX-9's First up Forte II versus Tangent 500's. This was a no brainer, the Frote II just blew the Tangents away, I am not sure what went wrong with the tangents as they start out life right with heresy II components, plus the passive out of the Forte. The tangent was out matched in every way. Next up was the Frote II versus the Vega's, this was closer than you might think, the Vega's spund good on many things, just a hole in the upper mid range makes the Frote II the winner. Next up drum roll please the Forte II versus the Forte, very tough call on this one, but the Forte gets the nod, tighter faster bass, smooth highs. The Forte II is awesome but the Forte is a little better. Finally, Forte versus Cornwall, I am not sure how to put this into words, but the Cornwall is just a funner speaker than the Forte, huge dynamics, bigger sound stage. The Forte is more refined and accurate, deeper bass, higher highs but just not as engaging as the Cornwall, so there you have it Cornwall is #1, Forte close #2.
  10. You are right Daddy Dee, that is what I was thinking of, mine had velvet felt, I think some folks did the horn and the cabinet with felt so there would be no reflections from the motor board. has nyone tried adhesive backed rubber to dampen the horns? I think I have enough to do a set of horns but do not want to waste it unless it has a reasonable chance of success.
  11. I seem to recall people putting some type of dampening on the inside of the K77, it was supposed to make them sound sweeter, i never tried it but bought some Khorns from a guy that had done it and claimed it was the hot ticket. Does any of this ring a bell?
  12. That's the thing though, they do not appear to be plywood, looks like some kind of veneer of a solid core. I have seen many cornwalls and none like this.
  13. Sorry, I am the one that swooped you on the Cornwalls, they were advertised as early 60's vintage when in fact they were 1969 vintage, K33P, K55V, and K77 driver compliment, very nice shape overall, cabinets do not appear to be plywood, I am not sure though. I would pass on the Cornwall II's at the price the other guy is asking.
  14. What city are you in Cubdog? I saw two pair of Cornwalls on Denver Craigslist.
  15. I respectfully disagree with the Khorn being the best. I have owned several pair of each Klipsch heritage model in the last 25 years and always end up selling the Khorns, the Cornwalls are much easier to live with. 1) Cornwalls 2) Cornwall II 3) Forte 4) Chorus 5) Khorn 6) ForteII/ chorus II If you need the huge soundstage the khorn brings I could see it being rated the best, but for that i will take my highly modified Altec A5 setup, it simply outclasses the Khorn in my opinion.
  16. The kLIP circuit addressed tweeter diaphram failure, it should have nothing to due with system impedence. the Forte with 4 or 8 ohm markings too and was the same speaker for both versions.
  17. I there a post that charts the various configurations of Cornwalls and Fortes? These are my two favorite Klipsch models and every pair I have had or seen ahs been different in some way. I have searched the forums but could not find exactly what I was looking for. Perhaps I am search function challenged. I had a pair of Cronwalls that had a mid driver that was green hammertone in color, I cannot remember the model number of the driver but is what in a pair of vertical horn cornwalls (CII).
  18. Those are very nice popbumper! Please send an PM with details.
  19. They have a guy on eBay selling replacement diaphrams fo rvarious Cerwin Vega models, since Klipsch purchased the tooling that made many Cerwin Vega horns I was wondering if this would be a source for phenolic diaphrams for Klipsch speakers, especially the Forte. Anyone know of have a good guess?
  20. There is no difference in the 4 or 6 ohm KG4, they are the same internally. I have had all varieties of these and went crazy trying to figure out what Klipsch was doing. There have been posts talking about this in the past, it has to do with them using minimum or avaerage impedence.
  21. I have two pairs actually, both very nice near mint, paid $100.00 and $125.00 for them. I would expect a nice pair of KG4's to go for that much. I agree they are great, but $300.00?
  22. Anyone see that ebay auction for KG2's that went for $305.00? Seems about $200.00 to high, what is going on?
  23. Glad to see someone working with the Forte's, they are in my opinion the most underrated Klipsch. I have been considering crossover upgrades, but locating the crossover outside the cabinet to allow use of the erse inductors from partsexpress and an air core unit for the tweeter. Please let me know if you find something that works well.
  24. Hi all, I would like to replace the aging diaphrams in my Forte's with the titanium version as other have done on this forum, however to order them form Klipsch I need to know what models had them so they can be referenced. I guess the part computer can not search by the tweeter model number or mid model number. Thanks much!
