  1. At my local dealer, 3801 was 1199, each RF3 was 400, center was 349, surrounds were 549, sub was 499, OUCH. I can see how paying online prices can be tempting, I did my homework. This sale was 'half of normal markup', so the 3801 came down to 959, RF3's were 299 each, center was 261, surrounds were 420, sub was 353. Setting it all up wasn't too bad, had lots of trips to the store getting the right wires/connectors though. Good thing I had a stereo savvy buddy to help me. I've never had a receiver in this upper echelon, that OSD is too cool! The only pain was mounting the surrounds. Fishing wire through an outside wall with insulation is a treat. Now that I have the speakers all in position, and my room back together, I'll be breaking it in with some movies this weekend. I'll keep you posted.
  2. I just bought that same system, only I got the RS-3's for surrounds. That is a good price delivered, but make sure you get your warranty. They guys where you buy it will say 'Yep! No problem!' Til something goes wrong, and you're SOL. I was going to buy mine online but the only place that had a warranty for those same items charged as much as my local dealer. Luckily, the store near me had their 'Family Sale', I got my setup for $2900 which included a Toshiba SD2200 DVD player and tax, and that includes a full warranty, and someone I can ***** to face to face rather than over the phone if something goes wrong. My advice is if you're feeling lucky that nothing will go wrong with your gear, go ahead and buy online. Otherwise if you can wait for a killer sale at your local store you'd be a lot safer. FYI, plan on spending a minimum of $300 bucks on all your cabling.
  3. In the manual Klipsch says directly left and right of the main listening area is preferred. And directly behind the listening area pointing towards the TV is second choice. Any of you have them mounted about 3 feet behind the main listening area on the left and right walls, but still pointing towards each other? I know most say do it and see, but I'd rather keep the holes in my walls to a minimum
  4. Ear height 48" Center speaker height 66" Ear to front of TV 9' Distance of my 'closest excited body part' to TV when all my Klispch References are rocking...about 2'.
  5. Any thoughts on mounting an RS-3 above a saltwater tank? The speaker doesn't appear to have any worrisome components, except the woofer, any possiblity that could corrode? If I were to mount the speaker in this way, it would be on the wall about 2' above the tank, so I could still open the canopy. Could I consider ceiling mounting? Only drawback is that from what I've read it should be about 3' above the listening area. ***On a side note, I recall reading someone having a problem with loose binding posts on their RS-3, I had the same problem. If I didn't happen to have a torx screwdriver on hand I would've been PO'd.
  6. Since I've learned so much by reading these boards, I'll tell you guys what I've found...believe me, I've done my homework. I read reviews and listened to the Reference series at my local dealer, and am dead set on getting the entire set along with the subwoofer. I found the set much cheaper at Crazy Eddie's, go figure. Though he claims the warranty is good, it's not. The only places online that Klipsch honors warranties from are Vanns and Ubid, funny how the prices at Vanns are the same as my local dealer. Anyway, I just got off the phone with Vanns, and they have FREE SHIPPING, and they even throw in a 20 ft monster cable for the sub for free. My advice if you don't have a local dealer nearby is to buy from Vann's. What good is a warranty?? Blow one speaker and ask yourself that question again. As for myself, my local dealer is having a sale next month, 50% normal markup, that's the time to buy since this higher-end stuff is marked up substantially. Good luck shopping fella's!
  7. Way back in this thread somewhere somebody was talking about getting his Klipsch's from J&R. I called them today to get a quote and the guy told me they no longer carry the Klipsch line.
