  1. I'm pretty amazed as well. My 20s are just under two months old, and the highs just now starting to settle down. I don't believe in EQs except for live music; IMHO, home EQs are band-aids that temporarily fix crappy speakers. I keep the treble on my Denon dead flat, and there's more than enough high end coming out of the 20s! I know they're heavy as a Moose, but try flip-flopping the speakers; or just try exchanging the wires, left for right. Make sure they're in phase too. Out of phase speakers can yield unpredictable results. Try a different amp with the same music and see. Good luck!!
  2. PUT ME ON THE LIST! I just bought my KLF 20s, but if they'd make Cornwalls under $2K, I'm in! I doubt if I'd have a problem selling my 20s!
  3. Looks to me like the KSP-6s are still in production--they're still on the website here...I think hump means if you want Legend series surrounds to go with yer KLF mains and yer C7...
  4. I just ordered a C7, and it should be in anytime, and in mahogany just like my Klf20s! My friendly K dealer feels their days are numbered though, even though they're still being cranked out. As others had said to me, I wouldn't waste too much time, but let's hear that from the K-Men themselves...
  5. Well, I just checked ebay, and that micro system you were contemplating went ten whole days and never got a single bid! Those guys need to learn a little something about ebay...
  6. I must applaud Klipsch for sticking to their guns, and going ahead with what they feel is ethical. I too, have been had by shysters over the internet, and am more cautious than ever. Well written, BobG. As we learned much to our chagrin that the microwave oven wasn't the end-all kitchen cooking device back in the late 70s, neither is purchasing goods over the internet the end-all buying experience. But the microwave still has its place, because we discovered that it did do some things extremely well. The same is true for internet purchasing, and what it does so well is service buyers who are unable to get to the Brick & Mortars. Notice the ads for Yahoo! shopping on the TV; they are no doubt targeting the folks who live in very remote areas, and showing them that they too can have a jacuzzi and protect themselves from falling satellites as easily as the guy living in the big city! This is where I think Klipsch needs to place their internet focus. I almost bought a KLF-C7 from an Insane Irv type place to save a few bucks, but got scared when I knew Klipsch wouldn't honor the warranty. As well made as Klipsches are, they're still made by human beings; why else would they have a warranty in the first place? I wanted that security, and it was worth it to me to spend a few more bucks for the peace of mind. And why should I complain? My friendly neighborhood Klipsch store is five miles from my house! Other loyal Klipsch lovers aren't so lucky. They may live hundreds of miles from the nearest retailer, and may have settled for another brand of speaker, simply out of convenience. What about Klipsch selling directly from Hope? The obvious aggravation and expense would be shipping, so build solid wooden shipping crates rather than cardboard, and let the low-cost freight companies handle the delivery! OK. I've gone too far. All I'm saying is maybe Klipsch should consider a compromise. Allowing only the B&Ms to sell their product online, and forcing them to ship the product in one of their own vehicles won't help the music lover who lives beyond the delivery range of the nearest e-tailer.
  7. Trey- No, it's never too late, 'cause the place I found is STILL in the city, and close to plenty of the non-Klipsched (although the volume of silver in their hair is far less) and I could still be asking for trouble if I really crank, but at least I'm the only resident in the building! Anyway, back to your advice...do you mean allowing the speakers to "float" on top of a semi-pneumatic surface? This will help cut back the bass? Hmmm....now that's an engineering challenge! How the hell does one configure that deal?
  8. BobG! Where can I get such a cool Avatar as the one you have! ...or is that only for employees?? Concerning your post, and since I own "Legend" speakers, instead of it being my "legacy" as you put it, maybe the cranky old Wrinkle-monsters will remember me as the LOUD-*** "Legend" of Fairport. This is a small, sleepy village outside of Rochester, but NO ONE sleeps when I twist the volume knob! AH,HAHAHAHAHA!!!!
  9. Hmmm...I wonder why there's no bids yet?
  10. OK call me a puss, but I wimped out. I was this close to sending those shysters in Las Vegas my hard earned $$, when I saw a few C7s on ebay. Went ahead, and bidded on one of them. Found out, they didn't have one in mahogany, which would match my KLF20s, so I stopped bidding. Then , I got a wild hair, and actually went to my local Klipsch dealer (what a concept!) They didn't have any mahogany C7s either, but could order one. In the meantime, I bought an RC-3 (open box--kinda used and kinda damaged), but as soon as the big daddy C7 rolls in, I'll just pay the extra $$, trade up, and have exactly what I wanted, with a 5 year warranty to boot. These guys have been in Rochester for about eleventy nine million years, and I doubt they're goin' away anytime soon. Whew. It's over. I'll spend a little more, but I know I'll get service. I mean, hey. They even gave me 8' of 12 gauge speaker wire for FREE!!! They're so cool. I can already tell the RC-3 can't keep up with the 20s, so it's gonna make gettin' that C7 all the more sweet. The RC-3 isn't bad at all, but I'm glad I didn't settle for it. Put my hands around a C7 for the first time at the store, and you guys were right! It's BIG!!!! It'll be like having a Buick on top of your TV. Rock on with your bad selves.
  11. OK OK. I gotta know. What were the "hrmph hack chokes"? AND. I'll ask again. Anybody have any bad experience with Sound Distributors outta Las Vegas? I'm thinkin' about flyin' a check his way... I wonder now about Klipsch warranty--will they honor it, or do I take my chances? I'd really rather go with my local dealer, but the price is reasonable. The same price I've seen on ebay.
  12. Hey Talkto! I just inquired at Sound Distributors about the availability of a mahogany C7! Thanks for the tip! I also placed a bid for one on ebay, but the reserve hasn't been met, and my ceiling was already reached. Now I'm just waitin' fer them there guys in Vegas to make me an offer I can't refuse. Anybody think that's a bad idea? I mean, Sound Distributors or buying on the web? I KNOW the C7 is a good idea!
  13. "Who Let the Dogs Out" What I'd like to know, is who let that song out.. of the studio? IMHO, at least the Queen songs "We will Rock You" and "We are the Champions" at least were decent songs before they were murdered by the NBA, the NFL and MLB, but this Dog thing? The first time I heard it I gagged. Most all the other songs in this post make me wretch as well, but Whitney's I will Always Love u can make a freight train take a dirt road...I can't imagine what would happen to my KLFs if that song came across the wire. God help us all
  14. Hey, I'm tryin' to do this right! Boa 12, thanks for yer advice on the previous post, but I thought I should create another topic for another kweshtun. While I have you here though, what is so different with the RC-3? Is it the metal woofers make it so much brighter than the KLF series? Will I really be pissed once I hear the difference? Should I suck it up and get the C7? Dude at the Klipsch store said he'd haveta order a matching C7, as he doesn't have one in mahogany. It sure would be sweet to have color and sound matching as well! Also he's quoting me $530 for the C7. Is that outrageous? There's another Klipsch store here in western NY, but I have to drive to Buffalo (yecch) It's about an hour away. They may not offer any better price. They do have us by the cojones when it comes to prices, 'cause they're the only dealer for miles.
  15. My worst pair were definitely the Criterions I bought back in 1975. Remember Lafayette Electronics? We called 'em Laff a lot. I don't even know if the company is still in bidness. They were driven out of town by that premiere audio dealer, Radio Shack. After a few futile dealings with those boys, I wished for Laffalot to come back! Then I wandered into my late teens, and stopped by our local high-end stereo store to see what the rich folk bought. Ol' Geezer there turned me onto Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon (I kid you knot), the track where the airplane flys overhead ("Time" if I'm not mistaken) on none other than a pair of K-horns. I was a Klipsch virgin until then. I was completely blown out of my shoes. I have never been the same since. I went home as was so disgusted with the Criterion junk I had, I tore the front particle board off, cut a new piece to match my pair of 6x9 Jensen Triax-II car speakers, and they rocked me through my first two years of college!
  16. I have a pair of KLF 20s and am trying to decide which is the best center speaker value. I really want to get the KLF-C7, but it is a bit too rich for my blood. As those who have read my other post "I am so bummed" know, I am being kicked out of this condo I'm living in thanks to the bitter old craggy blue-hairs that live next to me that complain of the "annoying" bass created when I barely crack open my Klipsches. Well, they won the battle. but not the war. Anyway, my center right now is a bona-fide POS, and I want to upgrade. The RC-3 is more in my budget, but some say it's not a good match for the Legend series. My local Klipsch dealer will let me trade-up for the C7 (provided it's still available) within a year after my purchase. (I also get the impression from my dealer that Klipsch will continue to make the Legends on a made-to-order basis for quite some time after they're officially discontinued. Any thoughts on this from the Klipsch folks?) Anyway, will the RC-3 be an adequate temporary solution till I get myself settled in new digs, and can afford the C7? Is there another option? Maybe (OK, don't kill me) a non-Klipsch product? I want my speakers to be homogenous, but maybe someone else makes a complimentary product?
  17. GUESS WHAT! I DID IT!!! I got kicked out!!! My landlady gave me 45 days to get out. heh heh heh heh heh heh heh All I did was watch a few flicks in surround sound (Speed, Gladiator, and T Heads Stop Making Sense) I did put my KLF 20s on milk crates and backed them off the walls to reduce the bass (I'm such a nice guy), but I guess I reprogrammed the old bat's pacemaker one too many times. OK. If any of you guys live in the metro Rochester, NY area, lemme know and maybe you know of a place. I work downtown, so I gotta get to work in a reasonable amt of time. DAMN! I was just going to my Klipsch dealer to pick up a center speaker. Gonna start with an RC-3. They allow upgrades within a year, and maybe they'd still have a C-7 lyin' around. What the hell. I might buy it anyway. heh heh heh heh heh...45 days...As Jack Nicholson said in Batman, "Wait'll they get a load of me." I think I'll push it right to the edge every night. They'll probably cheer when they see the speakers carried out of the condo! Let this be a warning to any of you out there who have Klipsches and are living in close quarters with the living dead. If they whine enough, they get their wish. But they will pay. I will win. heh heh heh heh heh...
  18. Sell the KLF 20's for a pair of Bose? Over my dead body! (Which I'm sure the archaeological wonders living next to me would LOVE to see). I'm like a Tareyton smoker (showing my age here) I'd rather FIGHT than switch! Klipsch uber alles! Bose are for weenies
  19. Steve- Gold Hill, huh? I used to live in Charlotte! Moved to Rochester--long story. Plenty of open spaces out here in Upstae NY once you get away from the city area, so that's where I'm headed. As far away from these fossils as I can get. I think my closest neighbor was born in the Palezoic era. Older than the Coelacanth. Does my milk crates idea sound like a temp solution? Or is it too dangerous putting those monsters on a rickety surface?
  20. So, for a quick fix, taking the spikes off, and letting them sit flat on the carpet? Maybe something like cardboard underneath? I was thinking about setting them on milk crates! They're strong enough, but the speaker won't be very stable, I guess. I'm gonna run 'em one way or the other!
  21. I can't believe it. I just bought my gorgeous KLF 20s TWO DAYS ago, and my landlord has received so many complaints about the sound, that if she receives another, I will be asked to leave. She is dead serious. I will be evicted. Go ahead, laugh. That's what everybody at work did. The difference is, they don't have Klipsch speakers. Most of 'em have never even HEARD of Klipsch. Too bad. Their loss. I live in a condo, so the walls aren't paper thin; I can't even hear my neighbors. Problem is, my neighbors are two years older than dirt. Two old biddies, combined age at least a thousand. One is a bitter old bag. I had my lovelies running for LESS THAN 10 MINUTES before she rang my doorbell. I have yet to crank them, and won't be able to until I move out, which I have decided I will do in the next two months. The hell with this place. Now that I've finished ranting, here's my question: Since the two old biddies live on the same floor as myself, I'm guessing it's the bass that's rattling their doily-covered TV set when they're trying to watch Matlock or the Golden Girls. I have the spikes in place; the bass sure got much tighter when I did so! Should I remove the spikes? All I wanna do is listen to them, even if the amp is barely cracked open, but I'm afraid that even the slightest bass will wake them from their mid-afternoon naps. Should I go back to the little rubber feet? I have wall to wall berber carpet with lots of furniture, so it's fairly dead acoustically. Funny how my younger neighbor hasn't said a thing. I'm no kid myself, and I don't crank late at night,or even continuously, so these little blue-hairs must really HATE the rock and roll. I thought of CRANKING some Lawrence Welk, but they couldn't tell the difference through the walls. My landlord suggested headphones--HAHAHAHAHAHA! Now I gotta find a place in the sticks..... HELP! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!!
