  1. The reciever is a Marantz my Brother gave me when he upgraded. It's only a couple of years old so it likely has auto setup. I need to download the manual though as it is a bit more complicated than my Yamahas
  2. To be honest, theyhave been logitech harmony remotes so the programming was pretty simplistic [:$]
  3. This will be a good learning opportunity. I have always set up my own systems, done the wiring, and programmed the universal remotes; however, they have always been basic and I haven't had to/or just didn't take the time to calibrate the system to get it sounding as good as it should. This time I am determined to do it right.[8-|]
  4. I have been working on getting my home theater setup in our new house and it should be all ready to go next week. I will be running a 7.2 system: RC-64, 2 RF-35s, 2 RS-35s, and the rears are TBD (with my KG 3.5s filling in until I can get a pair of RB 25s/35s or RF 25s/35s). Subs are an RSW-10d and the Big Boy (which my Wife compares to a small child or a mini-fridge) Jamo D7. I will be using a Marantz receiver (I am spacing on the model #). This is my first time to have a more complex system and with just an initial once over witht he Marantz, I am a little worried about getting this thing dialed in. I have an acquaintance who owns a home theater business and will give me a decent deal (price to be determine) on calibrating the system, but I hate to spend too much money (reserves getting tapped out). Any tips for a newbie to help me get this system performing to its potential?
  5. I always think of the movies that were popular when I was building my first HT and subsequently were used often to demo it: Gladiator, The Matrix (in particular the scene where they go through the metal detector), and the phantom menace (the pod racing of course). When it comes to showing off the video, along with the Lord of the Rings, I have found the Harry Potter movies to be very visually stunning.
  6. My gear from monoprice arrived yesterday. I hope to make some serious strides in installing speakers today.
  7. My Pc crapped out on me and is getting a total overhaul (I don't think anything will remain the same). My computer guy is helping me set this one up to take residence in my new HT room. I was thinking about putting an LG Blu-ray player in as I don't currently have a Blu-ray. He has one of the older models in (GGC-H20L) that plays Blu-ray and HDDVD: however, I am wondering if the quality of this player would be as high as a PS3 (for example), or if I should go with one of LG's newer models for a little more coin (GBC-H20L). Does anyone have any feedback on PC based LG Blu-ray drives in general or on either of those models in particular? Thanks.
  8. Thanks for all the info. I put an order in at monoprice for the subwoofer cables, speaker wire, hdmi, y adapters etc. I can't believe how little I spent for how much I got. Wuzzer-thanks for the offer, but I think I am set right now. I appreciate all the help...this site is the best!
  9. I can't seem to find a hard Y adapter on monoprice. Any idea what to look under?
  10. BTW, great prices there on other products. I need to order more speaker wire and can't believe their prices. I am thinking about just getting one of their 250 or 300 ft rolls to allow me to do all my speakers. A couple of quick questions: Is there any real difference between in-wall and non inwall speaker wire? Several of the wires will be run in wall. Lastly, what gauge? The furthest speakers will need 40-60 feet of wire fished through the walls. 12,14,16? Thanks again for the monoprice link
  11. Starting to hook up new system in my new home. I am putting it into a room that the previous owners used for HT; however, it poses some interesting wiring challenges and I need a pretty long connection for the sub...but I don't want to spend too much if I can keep from it. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  12. I have decided to pursue a smaller satellite based system for my family room (as we are putting more money into the main HT in the bonus room and I have space constraints to work around). Within Klipsch's offerings, I came across the Qunitet SL, the Cinema 8 (minus the sub as I will be getting a different one), and the HD Theater 500. Has anyone listened to more than one of these options? So far, I have only been able to listen to the SL system. Any feedback would be welcomed.
  13. Great review. I think I just found my next pair of ear phones.
  14. Ok. Thanks. They will be tightly fitted into a corner on either side of TV stand; however, there will be a good 12-18" behind them until they get to the wall.
  15. I am trying to figure out which Klipsch floorstanding speakers will work in my family room and I have no more than 7.5" to work with for each speaker. If I don't used the feet on the rf-52s, they will fit; however, with the feet they are too wide. Any thoughts? Does anyone have experience with the 52s without using the feet? Thanks
  16. Thanks for the welcome. I have been a lifelong Klipsch fan (at least since I bought my current system ten years ago) and was happy to find this forum. The bonus room (where I was planning on putting the RF-35s) is 28 feet long and 19 feet wide. I can get an RC-35 or an RC-52 for $250 (I haven't quite figured out how the older 35s compare to the current 52s). The family room is small (don't know the measurements off hand but somewhere around 15X12). The space constraints comes from where we are placing the TV. It is going in a corner and it only leaves 7.5 inches on each side of the TV for front speakers. I have plenty of space for the rears and center though. Thanks for the tips on the subs. I know I won't need much in the family room but wouldn't mind getting something that can do a little shaking in the bonus room if/when budget allows.
  17. Hi everyone. I am new to the forum but have been reading over the past few days trying to figure out what to do with my new HT setup. My Wife and I are moving to a new house and this coincides with my parent's upgrading their Klipsch system and giving me their RF-35s and RS-35s. I am trying to determine which center channel to purchase (I assume a RC-35 would be the best choice; however, I am wondering if I should ) and I need two more speakers to finish off 7.1. These two speakers I need will be the rear speakers and could be floorstanding or bookshelves based on the deminisions of the room. Do I need to try and find RF/RB-35s so that they match or would other reference series speakers work well (I am trying to find used stuff to minimize the cost and I can get a pair of rf-5s at a good price). Lastly, does anyone have a tip for a sub that offers the most bang for your buck? Also, in the family room we are looking at putting in a smaller system. Due to size constraints, the only klipsch speakers (in my price range and before going to quitet style) that will fit are either the RF-10s or RF-52s. I assumme the 52s are the way to go and offer decent sound for a small room?
