  1. What do you guys think of running my rf-7's as surrounds on a seperate amplifier and useing my receivers power to power my rs3ii's, thus utilizing the rf-7's more direct sound for music, while still retaining the diffuse sound of the rs3ii's, for surround sound on home theater, the rs3ii's are directly above the rf-7's, fireing the same direction. Should work pretty good shouldn't it?
  2. I hope I don't have to use the yamaha to drive them very long, I'm just waiting for a good deal on an amp, or until this weekend when my lottery numbers are drawn. It's been kind of a blitz on my checkbook purchasing all of these speakers in the last month, but I will get something that is worth waiting for! Oh and by the way the receiver is running a 9.2 setup, but it doesn't get too warm. I sure wish I had that 400x7 right now though[]
  3. I too need an amp and am also looking at sunfire or rotel, I think I would get the 400 and be done with it, If I were to go rotel it would be a 1090 (300x2) and a 1095 (200x5) - If it were sunfire, I wish I could afford the 400x7, but will most likely end up being some other combination like the 200x5 and the 360x2. Right now I'm running six rf-7's off of a 100x7 yamaha rxv-757 and they sound good, I can only imagine how much they will improve once I invest in an amp!!
  4. I did a ghost flame job on a suburban last year / house of colors blue ice. Prizmatique pearls over blue. Sweet ride, lowerd, bagged, killer system in it. I did it on the side and for my pay the owner set me up with a system in my car / pheonix gold amp / 15" audiobon sub / couple of other amps / 10disc changer and install with high end wiring (he was a local stereoshop owner) I don't do sideline work for money - takes the fun out of it, one hand washes the other you know! Too nice of a system for my car - considering I have four kids and I pretty much only listen to news and talk radio, but it's fun anyway. Now if only he was a Klipsch dealer!
  5. I'm just setting up my 7 system, my last pair of rf-7's should be here tomorrow, they are a great speaker, much better than my rf-3's, I'm sure either way you go, you'll be happy. I too would like to try the thx system but in the end I guess you have to decide on one or the other. I just like the look of the rf-7's over the other stuff, I have a 9.2 setup and while they do fill the room, they fill it with KLIPSCH, so I'm happy! They deliver plenty of punch on movies, I'm not a big music fan, but now that I have the rf-7's I find myself listening more, 7 channel stereo is defininently WOW!
  6. 2 gallons of primer? sheeesh, just asking for trouble. More is NOT better, products come with instructions if you ask for them, read the instructions and follow them, they are there for a reason, that's like the guy who brags about his car haveing 6 coats of clear, my response is "Why? couldn't you get it right on the first 2 coats?" If anyone has questions about refinishing them automotive style, let me know I'd be glad to help, and dispell some myth's for those who have not painted like this before. There's allready enough interest in this for me to do a project. Also If I had a pair of klipschorn's or lascala's or heresy's, that were in good shape, I think It would be a tougher decision to paint them. Unless they were beat up, or I had an extra set to spare.
  7. I have the panasonic 700u, after seeing it my boss bought one, my friend just bought the 900......you owe it to yourself to check this one out, stunning pictures!! It is also very easy to mount, meaning it is forgiving on placement, excellent throw range! You should be able to get a 700 at a good price right now as they are closeing them out for the 900's, be quick though, once they are gone you will HAVE to buy a 900 at the new price.
  8. Well, I just bought another pair of rf-7's so let's hope that these will be the right surrounds for me, at least I still have the rs3ii's to do a comparison with, but it would be better to have a pair of rs-7's too. Six RF-7's should rock pretty good though! Thanks for the help guys.
  9. I know I should just live with them, but I sure wish I could have gotten them all matching. I should probably be happy that my wifes not killing me though. She's allready a little miffed, but that'll wear off. And if it is hard to come by a set of maple rf-7's I definently will not defile them, I wonder how hard they are to come by though? What I need to do is make a clone rf-7, paint it and see how well I like it. I could even play around with different colors (sounds like a good summer project) - my garage is not heated, and I don't have time to play around at work. This could be fun, how about a pair of marble or granite rf-7's. Chameleon colored rf-7's, black with house of colors white ice, flamed - I'm sure my wife would enjoy THAT! [] Really endless possabilities if someone were bold enough to try it, and as easy as it is to do, it's not like you would actually destroy them, just make it harder to sell, after all it is just speakers. And really if they did have a premium finish, it could make them worth more.....maybe.
  10. Yes I do have rf-7's, and 5 minutes ago I just purchased my third set, now I have 6 rf-7's. Here's why I am contemplating this, My black set I purchased brand new, my second set I purchased was used in cherry, with a cherry center channel, this works with my room because the wall they are up against is going to get painted black. But the set I just purchased 5 minutes ago is maple, I could either leave them alone or do them in piano gloss black, now these are not real wood but veneer's, and when I get done with them they would be flawless in every way that flawless means. I would do them in ppg global 789 toner black, (same black as on many black vehicles) with ppg global clearcoat. They would look much better than the finish on your vehicle because mine would be cut and buffed to a mirror-like gloss. SHOW finish! There seems to be alot of debate about how to do this, but in my field it is second nature. Staining and varnishing however is different, and unless you were going for the furniture grade look, varnish-is far inferior to base-clear. Not even in the same stratosphere! So now that I've purchased the maple ones, this question starts to get all to real for me. Just so you guys know here's what I have: front l&r: Cherry RF-7's Center: Cherry RC-7 Surrounds: Maple RF-7's Back surrounds: Black rf-7's Front effects: RB-10's Now what to do?
  11. If you had the option to change the appearance of your speakers, would you sacrafice the originality of them to satisfy your tastes? I've always thought about painting my speakers piano gloss black, I'm an autobody technician and belive me, makeing these look good is about 99% below my skill level, as I work on many high end cars as well as painting semi's, boats and motorcycles. Not only could I paint them piano gloss black, I could paint them any color I wanted. The only reason I have never done this is because they would lose their originality, but when you think of it - who cares, it's just speakers, they are mine, and that's what I do for a living. Why not put a beautiful finish on them, everyone wants one on their car, why not on my speakers? We're always looking for the next upgrade, wether it is spikes or dean g's crossovers, why not premium finishes? Any opinions on this? FYI: I now have 6 rf-7's - read my second post.
  12. Yeah, I know the subs would definently be the biggest improvement at this point in time, but I do have some, and this set of surrounds is the last set of speakers I have to buy to complete my 7-series setup, and I can always buy a sub from any brand, It would be nice to complete the set first, but you never know what kind of deals can pop up. Just when you think you are going to buy something a good deal pops up on something else. Once I get the subs and surrounds taken care of, it will be back on the hunt for an amplifier to drive them all. (I had an rf-3 system, and was looking for an amp to drive them when I came across an affordable set of rf-7's, next thing you know I sold all of my rf-3 system and replaced it all with the 7's, soon it will be back to an amp). Plus I'm still trying to decide on the svs pb12-plus/2 or the pb12-ultra/2
  13. Hi guys, thanks for the interest, I currently have a pair of rf-7's for my fronts an rc-7 for my center, another pair of rf-7's for my back center channels and am using a pair of rc3ii's for my rears and a pair of rb10's for my front effects channels, Klipsch KSW12 & 15" subs and a yamaha 757 receiver. The subs are going and will be replaced with either a pb-12plus/2 or ultra/2 and the rs3ii's will be replaced with either the rs-7's or rf-7's as soon as I can find a pair that I like at a price I like. I do have the floor space for the rf-7's but cost about twice as much as the rs-7's and leave me with less placement options (but the HTADDICT in me wants the rf-7's). I dont listen to music much this is almost strictly home theater I know I could put my rf-7's as surrounds and my rc3ii's as back center channels but it looks better in my room the other way, I'm 50/50 on either setup though, I guess it all comes down to finding a pair of rs-7's at a good price which are currently just not out there, but there are a few rf-7's, I might just go that route and TRY to be happy with 6 rf-7's:)
  14. Is there anybody out there that would like to sell a pair of rs-7 surrounds? It's one of the last set of speakers I need. I've been contemplating the rs-7's or another pair of rf-7's, I think the rs-7's would give me a little more placement flexability and wouldn't take up any floor space but on the other hand another pair of rf-7's would be quite nice too! PM or post if you can help me out with either of these.
  15. Hey vladi, I thought I emailed you but maybe it didn't go through, I have a pair of rs 3ii's and am looking for a pair of rs-7's, still interested? Let me know and I'll start looking for a pair of 7's
  16. There are not any brackets made for the rs-3 that I know of, but I purchased an inexpensive pair of universal mounts ($20.00 at menards) they were rated at 50lbs per speaker. They are a 2 piece unit one piece bolts to a stud in the wall the other bolts to that piece, they swivel back and forth and up and down, you position your speaker and then tighten it down, simple, cheap and effective, the only problem is the keyhole slots on the back of the rs-3's, you have to have both of them filled otherwise it would spin like a fan on only one screw so I got a piece of flat iron, drilled the holes at an even space to the keyhole slots, then put screwhead in keyhole slots, nutted them to the flat iron, and then bolted the flatiron to the bracket, not too hard if you think about it. I was able to mount them on the sidewalls high up so you could walk under them, and about 3 to 4 feet behind me, then I positioned them turned in to the listening position and pointed down so the woofer pointed at the sweet spot, I had good results. Don't let the guidelines pin you down to one thing experiment and do what works for you but by all means put them into operation because they could be in a lot better spot then where you have them now. (I had them at ear level on the sidewalls directly to the left and right of me and i found that I like this new position much better plus they look pretty good on the swivel brackets)
  17. also- hey jerry, from rushisrighton-should have expected to see you over here.
  18. Toddvj, by far my favorite answer, thank you! I stand corrected - What are reference levels? (that would have made my english teacher cringe).
  19. I am not new to home theater, but I hear this all the time ... listening , setting up etc. etc. at "reference levels" I wish I could say that I know what this level is but I ashamedly admit that I do not, could those of you who post using this reference fill me in. What is a reference level? I just bought a new yamaha receiver and a pair of rf-7's a rc-7 a pair of rb 10's for front effects, rs -3's for surrounds and my old rf'3-s for surround backs. And would like to play with setting other than the ypao. So maybe you guys could help me out. Just a webster dictionary description of reference level would be fine.
  20. Yeah boah, excellent points, the rf'3's and the center channel do pose a problem, I'm sitting with a 100"x53" available screen size without interfereing with the rf-3's, , my stuff is recessed between a gas fireplace and opossing wall so I can't distance my speakers to set the screen between them. With a small amount of work though I could set the center channel at the same higth as the rf-3's horns. (where I eventually want it anyway) One other thing though is I think I would have to put my projecter at 11 feet (distance-ceilingmount) because of the way my HT room is setup. Anyone see problems with that? Thanks 4 the link steve p very helpfull!,just checked it out and alot of info to soak-in. This message has been edited by HTADDICT on 02-13-2002 at 12:15 AM
  21. I was so interested in reading this post that I pissed in a cup rather than leaving my computer!
  22. I also started out pioneer, but finally decided to go sony, they make more and I like everything to match. It retailed around 7 to 800.00, I bought it the same year they came out with an ac-3 receiver and this was the next step under, just pro logic. Running a sony ES now with Klipsch references on the round and I'm satisfied. Sony makes some great stuff I've been running all sony now for quite a long time and haven't had any problems, But I'm sad to say that every pioneer component I bought broke down in the first year, (receiver,ld,and cd changer) hope you have better luck than me.
  23. I'm happy with my sytem but I need a bigger tv. I have a sony 32" right now, but a home theater isn't a home theater till you have the picture. What I would like to add is a projector, this would be for strictly movie watching so the life expectancy isn't that big of a deal, i'll use the 32 for normal viewing. Here's the problem, I have no way of going to check one out I live in ND. I would like to hear from you guys who do have one or know of somebody who does. My budget is max of 5,000 for projector and screen, would prefer to spend less by buying used or b stock. Any takers on this one? Any input would be helpfull. Klipsch references on the round. Sony gear thru & thru 15" & 12" subs a bumpin
  24. I've got the sony a55 and it's probably one of my favorite pieces. Has the digital out, not a great amount of digital movies or channels but I'll settle for some rather than nothing! The remote is GREAT, rf output. Alot of channel assingments available too. If your gonna get one check it out. Nothing like DD movies off the sattalite.
  25. Good point on the distance. SO assuming that you put the sub in the listening position checked the room for optimum sound and placed your sub accordingly. by the time you get it ther it could be out of phase? Would there be a different sweet spot if you switched from 0 to 180? Right now I have my 15 up front and 12 in the rear, nothing dialed in just placed where they look good. What I plan to do is this, place sub in listening position find the best spot in front of my room with the 15 and best spot in the rear of my room for my 12. But the dillema would be that by the time you would get them there they would possably be out of phase with each other or the fronts right, therfore you would get a degree of cancelation so next step would be to start flipping phase switches again. But if my question about there being a different sweet spot from 0 to 180 holds true then flipping the switches would eliminate that sweet spot alltogether. So would a better way be to try each setting and find each sweet spot and mark them so that if you did have to flip a phase switch to correct it you could move it to the according optimum spot. I know this is starting to sound like a riddle but hey riddles are fun I'm just trying to think it out what would sound best on paper, a guidline for placement so to speak. There is more to this I know but someone is going to read this and say hey I think it should be this way and we'll have an answer (maybe)It'll be a lot easier I know if my answer as to wether there is a different sweet spot between 0 and 180 is no but I think there would be as the sound waves would be altered. HMMMM riddle me this riddle me that. Anyone?
