  1. todd, I think what this ignorant sack wants to believe is that there is no LFE content in that scene which is just ridiculous having talked to about 12 people on msn and on forums. Why in the hell would they send a bass signal 35 strong and extending to below 20hz in ONLY THE SURROUND CHANNELS. Obviously It doesnt make sense and i need someone to confirm it. here is a link to the thread in the other forum at his request. http://www.3dss-forums.com/cgi-bin/wwwthreads/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=Forum4&Number=137389&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=7&fpart=4
  2. glad to hear that, i was about to rip my hair out as this guy was about as dense as could be, and everything i said went in one ear and out the other.
  3. Hi, If i could ask a favor from you people with nice HTs and subs. I posted this in the Ht forum but I think it would be more appropriate here. Im currently in a discussion with someone about the openning scene in the first matrix movie where trinity jumps up and kicks the cop, during that scene some guy claims that there is no LFE information at all being sent to the sub and that its only comming out of the surround channels. I have asked several of my friend with HTs to confirm this and they mention that the majoirty of the low bass in that scene (primarily a 35hz tone ) is comming from the LFE channel and that that guys setup must be wack. If someone could confirm that in that scene there is some LFE content going on that would be great. (first matrix movie btw, when she does the bullettime kick up in the air) If I remember correctly the way it works is the 5.1 stream sends bass information to all of the channels but the majority in flashy scenes is sent to the LFE channel for the sub to use. correct me if im wrong here especially in this scene. Thanks again!

  5. I think it looks very nice, but hey, what do I know. It does look very expensive though, Could this possibly be a new flagship? It kinda looks like it has phase plugs but It could be just the design of the dust cap.
  6. if the RB-15s can be run off of the ultra amp without any problems, I might do that until I get a decent reciever. If not, then thats not a problem. I'll just wait a little longer and get a receiver at the same time.
  7. Thanks for the reply. I'm glad they sound great. I think floorstanders would be nice but, lack of room etc. It might be difficult. Im wondering how these perform to similarly priced B&W, JBL, infinity, paradigm bookshelves going for around the same price My best bet of course would be to audition these but since no stores in my area carry the refference series ( only the synergy series) It's kind of hard. If someone could tell me how they compare to these other brands are there better options out there for music/ht? I've heard good stuff about paradigm, I'm sure that the klipsch would offer the most dynamic and vivid experience of the bunch, this seems to be common with all their products. I dont want to plunge and find out there is something better for the same / less price. Mainly looking at the RB-15 / RB-25s here. If the price was right maybe even the RB-35s
  8. Hi, I'm currently looking into upgrading my sound rig sometime this summer. I'm impressed so far with the quality of the klipsch ultra pm sats, however I'm well aware that there are tones of better things out there. My question is this, are the reference line of bookshelves klipsch offers any good compared to similarly priced stuff or are there better deals to be had. I'm looking to get the most bang for my buck, not too worried about bass since I'll probably get a sub down the road. I'm refering from say the RB-15 to the RB-25s thats probably the most I'd be able to spend. I looked for some reviews on google and came up with nothing. If anyone has these and could share their thoughts I would appreciate. thanks BTW. I plan to initially listen to mostly music (all genres from classical to rock to jazz etc...)and eventually get the rest of the speakers for a 5.1 setup for movies.
  9. Highlander to innovazero's argument, there are several different tiers of HT equipment, not everyone can afford $60k+ HT setups you know As it is, the high end MM on pc is a niche market. I have to agree, that MM is going in that direction, how long it will take to get there? Who knows 5, 10, heck maybe in 20 years from now, then again can you not imagine the perfect all in one entertainment pc system, giant screen titanic hardrive true hi fi speakers true hi fi soundcard 100 percent compatibility etc.. That would be amazing, Eventually one day we will get there or close to it - without having to spend upwards of $50k to get a excellent experience.
  10. Ok back on topic here , you're comparing a sub with an MSRP of $28,000 USD to a multimedia sub costing $about 200 Seriously though, for those of you that want the best sub in the multimedia market, this one is a no brainer and stands head and shoulders above the rest, including the original 5.1 sub.
  11. I hope this is true Innovazero, I would like to see the worlds collide! But seriously, No this wont compare to high end HT subs like the ear said. However If you're using the ultras in a smallish pc room - you definately can't go wrong. If you consider that you're getting this type of sub- the amp and the 5 sats for $399 its a hellova bargain if you listen to mp3s and play games or watch dvds on your computer, I'm assuming since most of you have dedicated HT's you would watch your Dvds on those systems, but overall I was very impressed with the ultras. The sub is quite potent...
  12. Look I'm not here to cause problems but these are the measurements that read out of my dB meter, I'am not fabricating this at all. If you find these hard to believe well I guess its your problem not mine. I'm more than happy with these results. I guess you aren't understanding the nature of these tests I performed, as they are to give you an idea of how loud this sub can output in a computer room - NOT a living room with the seating position being in the center of the room and requireing much more power. Anyway to answer your questions, I mentioned most of this in my review but I guess you missed it... so here it is again: PC TEST ROOM is 11 feet X 12 feet SpectraPLUS FTT Spectral Analysis System Software ( to double check the output freq ) Radioshack Digital dB Meter ( max output settings / c weighting / response fast ) HCH TONE generator for single tone testing. This is how i measured the results: sub was in corner for the max spl tests 1.5 - 2 feet from wall. 19.69 Hz @ ( 94dB at seating position in the little sofa/futon - If you look at the review i made a little ms paint drawing.) placing the meter at 1 meter from the port the sub was able to hit 101dB SPL at 19.69 Hz with minimal portnoise (much MUCH lower than that of the 5.1 subs port noise). Just for the record, if the ultra sub does this in my computer room there is no reason that the RSW-15 (edit: ooops) shouldn't be able to hit much much higher in my test room it would be a no brainer no contest just ask TheEars.
  13. prodj101: just to clarify this, have a look: This is my results from the ultra sub: 19.69 Hz @ ( 94dB ) 95dB @ optimal listening position / 101dB @ 1m peak SPL The number in brackets is taken at listening position which is about 12 feet from the sub in the opposite corner, not in the center of a room on a sofa of a large room, you have to keep that in mind the most realistic figure is 94dB and this was with no port noise or distortion
  14. Thats impossible, perhaps you read the graphs wrong, as those subs are much louder at those depths
  15. I worked long and hard on this one folks, hopefully it will be of use to someone! thanks to Mike Over at the 3dss forums He was able to upload my review: ENJOY! http://nike.cecs.csulb.edu/~msisk/ultra/index.htm Feel free to give positive or negative feedback, all is welcome!!

    Matrix Reloaded

from the post up there: "First, the volume was recorded at a VERY low level. A normal movie I listen to with the volume set at -25. Which is usually loud enough. I turned it up to -20, and it still wasn't up to par. " I could NOT AGREE MORE!!!! what the hell were they thinking! What a complete waste of 25 Canadian $. Let me give you my example: Audigy Gamer+ klipsch promedia5.1 every single volume knob maxed out on the speakers and on the pc, wave, master, dvd player volume etc... max max max and it only peaked at 108dB in the "loud scenes" the average was lower than 100 dB... Now as a comparison, I popped in Titan A.E. and U-571. Put the volumes at roughly 80 percent volume on everything and the soundtrack was peaking at over 120dB in some cases! What a joke. Matrix 1 dvd has MUCH better soundtrack with actual dynamic range.
  17. Edit I just measured the actual driver diameter seems to be about 7.25 inches or 180mm so we get : 90mm x 90mm x 3.14 or 254.34cm^2 at 20mm peak to peak we get 1.017 L combined from both drivers, does this sound right or does it sound like way to much?
  18. ---------------- On 10/18/2003 11:29:15 AM fabulousfrankie wrote: For example here's the woofer I have in my HT, the Stryke AV-15. Sd - 802cm^2 One way Xmax - 23mm=2.3cm Sd x Xmax x 2(because we need peak to peak) 802 x 2.3 x 2=3689.2cm^3 ---------------- How would one come up with a Guestimate of the promedia subs xmax, by looking at the thickness of the surround?, is it physically impossible without the numbers from the driver company?? So for the promedias it would be what the previous poster said: say it was 20mm total both ways , 220 cm^2 SD, so you get 2x220= 440/1000 = 0.440 L X the two drivers in the sub = 0.8L So the total air displacement per stroke(from the 2 drivers) would be this, Is that a reasonable number or would you guys think it has much less than 20 mm both ways. I'd like to know how you guys come up with this guess. Even though I guess thats not bad compared to alot of the multimedia competition... Thanks again guys
  19. Thanks for clearing that up, I was able to get the answer myself with a bit of searching, rather embarassing that I didnt remember, but I had to be sure! thanks
  20. I'd also like to add another question. Someone stated to me that the surface area of 2x 3 inch drivers is the same as a 6 inch driver. I was under the impression that this comparison is wrong and that it would actually be less than that of a 6inch driver, could someone clarify this too? Thanks in advance
  21. Ok. In my upcomming review I would like to compare the air displacement from the sub of the ultras with the 5.1s given the fact its an 8 inch driver and it has a 60 percent longer voicecoil does this translate to slightly more excursion from the cone? Or just greater power handleing? Say I wanted to state the displacement PER stroke of the dual 8 inch promedia woofers in L. How would I calculate the maximum air displacement per stroke(one way of the X-MAX Or would it be both in and out combined???) Anyone that can clear this up will help me greatly, thanks!
  22. I will post my full 8 page review compareing them to the 5.1s when shortly after I get my ultras, apparently even though My 5.1 set has been defective for over a month, klipsch isnt in any kind of hurry to get me a replacement. Apparently my replacement hasnt arrived in north america yet, let alone canada.... I will post the review with the charts when I do get them... eventually....
  23. No problem. Well It was actually a peak of a few dB over 126 for a burst of about 10-20 seconds. I didn't think the amp could take much more so I stopped there.
  24. Are you ****ting me? Are you honestly that blind, i never claimed for a sustained 126 db, i said that was a peak from a bass hit, and it was at 63 hz at 1 meter from the port NOT at listening position, try reading my post a little more carefully
  25. actually it was my 5.1's which died on me not the ultras, im getting the ultras as a replacement from klipsch, which should arrive in the end of the month or early nov. I'm still able to use my friends 5.1s for the purpose of the review, even though he hates me for it
