  1. Picked up a Pioneer Elite DV-59AVi the other day for $9.10 at Goodwill. Got a Marantz 5 disc for $10 as well. Goodwill has been decent lately.
  2. The heat is normal. The amp is auto class-A up to like 10 watts. After that class A turns off. Class A is ridiculously inefficient but has some of the highest quality. My M-45 amplifier does the same thing. Keep the thing cleaned out and you should be fine. It will put out quite a bit of heat in that mode even if it is just idling.
  3. I use a pair of black forte II's, a KG4 center and RB25 rears, and it's AMAZING. Not the best match, i'd rather have a Forte II center...but amazing
  4. Picked up a cheap projector today. Should be interesting with the Klipsch... big sound now meets big picture. Now I just need a 92 to 110" 16:9 screen.
  5. So I popped in Dead Space for the Xbox 360 the other night to test out the capabilities of the new system and it was amazing! I set the front L/R to large, center and rears to small. Sub was LFE+Mains so you get best of both worlds. Turned the receiver to about -20db (room is 25x20) and let her rip. The game sounded so very detailed. I could hear the monsters crawling along the ground mroe accurately. What really did it for me was when a fight scene came up. Even better was the part of the game you have to run outside and hide behind walls when asteroids start bombarding the ship around you. The entire room shook like never before. The girlfriend thought it was insane, so she went back to the bedroom to play PS3. About 3 minutes later she came out to yell at me "Oh my God, it's shaking the house clear to the other side! (60ft through a solid brick fireplace, and a few rooms). I could hear everything shaking. I simply smiled at her, said "well I achieved what I wanted", and turned everything off. Looks like a pretty good setup. We've watched a few movies on it as well. Simply stunning. Tonight? I'll try to find The Fifth Element and test. I love that movie.
  6. Since I wall mounted the Samsung LCD, I no longer needed the space under it for a stand, which allowed me to use a much larger center. I can put a forte II under the tv and have room to spare now. The rack got moved far left so it's completely out of view when you're watching tv. The room is something like 25x20 or 25x25 (i need to measure sometime) because it was originally designed as a large 2 car garage that never got built. Instead the original builders closed it off into a den (brick outside matches). There's like 12 ft of space or more behind the couch. The girlfriend hates the way the fortes look, and I agree to an extent (mainly because of the cables going all over) but I like the speakers. Next project - cable management. I think I'm going to run everything wall since the cables running down the wall, across it, etc all look ugly. Anyone have any opinions on it? I want to run the 5 amplified channels to binding posts on the wall (5 pair plate) and then through the wall to directly behind the speakers. This should eliminate 90% of the cables I see. The only problem is the rear channels which sit behind the couch, not near any wall....
  7. I definitely have the space that's for sure. I could probably run 5 forte II's given the chance.
  8. Polkie = Polk Audio fan Or if you live in Oklahoma, an Oklahoma State Univeristy fan (Go Polks)... I do live here but I go for the red team lol. Anyways, I like to run different sets of speakers where a lot of people run mainly the same brand.
  9. Oh it's the girlfriend. She might is filed as my domestic partner... she's on my insurance (health, home, car). Technically half the house belongs to her since we cosigned. She did finally start paying for half the house.... I usually get what I want but she can complain and it's annoying. My audio sounds good though!
  10. So I picked up a pair of minty (well except one small scratch) Forte II's from 1986 ( I think) for $75. I was using them in 2 channel then realized I'm never out there, and I have a perfectly good pair of B&W DM2000's in that room for 2 channel So, I moved them out to the other living room where the flat panel and full Paradigm setup was. I wanted bigger speakers [] Anyways the setup for L C R is Forte II ---- KG4 ---- Forte II Rears are RB25s that I picked up the other day in a trade. What do you think? I deally I would get a single Forte II for the center, but the odds of that happening are slim to none. The KG4 was had for $15 in great condition at the local goodwill so I figured... why not. It only came as a single for some unknown reason. The girlfriend (wife) hates the way the living room looks now since I removed the entire tv stand with all the electronics and old center channel and replaced the entire front stage with speakers only. I put in a new audio rack far left of the setup completely out of the way so all you see are speakers (and ugly cables). It sounds awesome. Dialog has never been this clear with my dedicated centers...and I've used some big ones in the past such as the Polk CS350, CS1000p, Paradigm CC300, and Boston VR12. Anyways, I'd like to upgrade the speaker cables to something cost effective (<$100) and whatever else you recommend that doesn't break the bank. If I keep the Fortes long run I might hit up for some Bob Crites diaphragms, but for now I'll enjoy them the way they are. Thanks, and it's nice to be a Klipsch fan in addition to my other addictions (I'm a polkie too)
  11. Found a single (1) KG4 today at Goodwill for $15. For the life of me I could not find its mate... but alas I walked away with one! Not bad... Should make a good center for my Forte II's... thoughts? They're 1989 year
  12. Someone should scoop these Forte II's up: http://cnj.craigslist.org/ele/1516366733.html $250
  13. Yeah I do like the magnetic grills... those suckers are held on strong!
  14. Cool.. I did not know the differences between the two models. I know you stated you couldn't hear a difference, but what would they be if there were some based upon the two different horns and radiators?
  15. So the forte 1 has a 12" radiator? My pair of II's have 15"....
  16. Ship them to me and i'll take em off your hands
  17. Pull the dent out of that dust cover! I'd tell you to use a vacuum but the cover is too porous. I had a dent in mine too and pulled it out with some silver tape and careful pulling. It won't rip anything but if you don't pull at the right speed/angle it just comes off instead of pulling the material out. How much did you pay for them? I need to threadjack you and post the ones I bought the other week! Congrats and I hope you enjoy them.
  18. Lol.... People ask me that all the time. Just in Oklahoma City. I hit up the Goodwills and thrift stores once a week. There's a Rotel RC-972 preamp up there I found for $5.98 and a MK VX-7 powered sub for $5.98 as well My girlfriend says I'm addicted to thrift shopping. I agree and admit it - it's better than being her and addicted to paying retail. I go once every other day as my main stop is around the corner about 2 minutes. Here are some things I picked up lately: Namamichi AV-2 Pro-logic receiver. This machine has balls. Great 2 channel. Polk RT-55 $50 I'm a big Polk fan too. I have full Paradigm, Polk, and Klipsch setups Peavy PA400 head and 12" cabinets $75 KLH Model-24 vintage speakers. Circa 1960s $2 M&K VX-7 8" Powered sub $5.98 Full Yamaha setup with MX-830 amplifier (170w/chan?), 5 disc changer, dual tape, equalizer) $60. All functional Rotel RC-972 $6 and NAD 114 preamp $60 (came with NAD 214 amplifier, what I use now) http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g150/nguyendot/Computers%20and%20Stuff/audio%20vide/IMG_0010.jpg Klipsch KG 3.5's $50/pair (I bought 2 pair). What can I say, I'm addicted.
  19. I agree. I've got quite a list of speakers at home, and the first thing I noticed about these was their imaging. It's very clear and very detailed. The bass isn't what I expected from a 12" woofer and 15" sub bass radiator, but the sound is very good. Man these things are monsters...talk about gigantic.
  20. Thanks for the info guys. The surrounds look original, it's just weird to see inverted rubber surrounds. Why do some companies use inverted vs not?
  21. What is the woofer surround material/design? I bought a pair of Forte II's and someone told me they had been repaired for the surrounds. Is the surround supposed to be inverted if it is rubber? I suppose that question is moot if the surround is the fabric suspension. Thanks
  22. Update.. more cool stuff from thrift stores. Found a Quintet II 5.0 system for $25 in great condition the other week. . Then last night I went to Goodwill and found some giant boxes with "Klipsch" on them. They turned out to be these: $75 took both out, both in awesome condition with just one minor scratch down the side of one (I'll fix it somehow). Functionally? Perfect.
  23. Sweet! I have one pair black one pair walnut. Pics: Horn not hooked up when I first got it. Toasted voice coil - i replaced that today.
  24. Oklahoma City... everywhere is the sticks. I just have to vigilant in my Craigslist searches! Most of my gear has come from there. My gf says I'm addicted..... I have vintage B&W DM2000's I got off CL as well. Very good sounding speakers, but they might go soon.
  25. I get so much stuff from thrift stores and craigslist. KG 3.5's for $50 a pair (2 pair) off CL. (first time Klipsch owner starting this week) NAD tuner, 112 preamp, 114 amp, and cd player for $60 Nakamichi AV-2 receiver for $35 JBL 2500 speakers $15 (traded for a project Carver TFM-25) Polk RT-25pair - $15 I got 30 classical CDs for $1 each too! all almost brand new.
