  1. yes sure , 1) the Quad 33 pre amp has a 4 pin ( star shaped ) output socket which i feed PM-6 through its MAIN INs . . The back of the PM-6 has a decoupling switch that says "coupled" and "separate" . so i turn it down to "separate" . and then connect the Quad . and then ..... i press BOOM !!! :scratch2: :thumbsdn: 2) yes... Quad and PM-6 both have original polarized plugs with those flat pins ... is that a problem ? PM 6 is 100v , so i use a converter transformer . which isnt too big but it works for me . the Quad is 220v ,hence goes directly to the wall . well , the PM 6 IS WORKING fine as i write this ... it survived ! thanks god . but id like to know whats goin wrong here . and why can i NOT use it with QUAD . Is it the "input sensitivity /output impedance" thing goin mismatched ???
  2. After using and enjoying my marantz PM-6 for about 5 months flawlessly , i wanted to test something different . so i connected my other amp ,the Quad 33, to the main-ins of the esotec PM-6.... the typical thudd was audible at the onset ...,which is typical of the quad , one speaker has to burp soon after the other . but hey , there was no sound as the cd player continued to play a song ... within like 15 seconds , a smallish white smoke emanated from the amplifier ... quickly switching everything off, Stunned and forlorn , i stood there thinking what in the hell had again happened ... did i make a mistake again ????? when i connect the quad 33 to the marantz 2230 , it works just fine . but this pm-6 just simply ignites when i does the same .... mements later pm-6 was working fine all on its own , as i disconnected the quad thing and replaced back the internal connections of the pm-6 pre amp and the power section . now , my query is ... is it occuring due to some bad resistor goin beserk red hot and smokin ? if yes why ? what circuit is involved ? or is it due to mismatch between the quad 33 pre amp and the marantz power amp section ???? plz advise!!!!! thanks in advance . i would never try this thing again without knowing something about the reasons ....
  3. well ,danley n tuba would be too big for my rooms . they have extended horns. must be high output designs. too big for me. i would like powered designs though .... thanks for the input though .... o

  5. Hi guys , Just wanna know if klipsch subwoofers are best for matching with my RF3s. My experience of klipsch makes me say this that klipsch speakers sound fast accurate and brutal . They donot sound limpy or cheesy like some very laid back and boomy speakers .... Since subwoofers generally have to move a lot of air and add a bit of that boom to the sound ,to make it. Heavy and pleasant , I suppose klipsch subwoofers would again carry that same tight and not so boomy character .I guess they too would sound dry or less visceral than the other highly regarded subs like SVS and the velodyns . Many klipsch fans donot use klipsch subs ...... I know I should listen to em all side by side but maybe that's not easily possible in my town. Plz pour in your thoughts . Are klipsch visceral enough or just tight n dry.
  6. wow . nice thread started . i sure too wana know how the KLFs stand next to RF3s . i havent experienced them but iv read people complaining mostly of the poor cabinet design and usuall rip off of the front baffle of the legends . i wonder why they do that ? anyways , 3 way speakers sound better , i have my doubts , till i hear some 3 way klipsch .... regards .... shehryaar.
  7. wait a minute guys , i did have an issue back then , i felt the need for lows . and i mentioned serious trouble with that room acoustics , i also said elsewhere that no speaker performed impressive there .but soon as shifted to another room the RF3s gave me everything . from thunderous bass to excellent imaging . so i am not complaining here . also the other speakers you will recommend maybe not that cost effective in my situation perhaps . keep posted ......
  8. thanks for the account , here i would like to know how RF5s differ from the 82s.and the 82 IIs. im interested in knowing how much difference would you say is between the 3s , 5s and the older and newer 82s . sorry if that sounds like the same question asked ,but what i mean is if the price difference justified right between these speakers , which have the same drivers (grossly) ?
  9. fish , thanks for the input . i always fancy RF7s . they are always spoken of very highly here . perhaps they stand in the top 7 klipsch speakers ever made . perhaps the 7s are the big brother version of the 3s . so that means at lower volumes the two should be sounding rather the same tone wise ? whats your take on that ? one thing i always DIS-liked about 7s is the way they disappoint me in the dealers shop . they have massive 10 inch dual woofers , designed to play loud n clear staying upright, right down to 32 hz . but when ever i have a go and listen for bass , they sound tinny and thin , and the only thing that gives satisfaction there is when he turns the sub woofer ON !!!.
  10. it is a matter of joy when you find forum members enjoying the same speakers or electronics that YOU own too. I dont see as much written or spoken about RF3s . they might be old and overtaken by the later models ,RF3 IIs and RF82s (similar driver sizes ) or the other reference speakers . but like most of the other genre of klipsch speakers ( heritage , legends , synergy , epics , ......) which are rather frequently talked about , i would like to know now why are the 3s less popular here in gossip ? As for my own experience of three years, they never sounded bad to me and mostly sound better than other speakers that i come by .
  11. i used it ! wow its a LUXMAN afterall !!! :) reducing the bands for the lows 3db to 5db in the 60 to 110 hz solves my room boominess . this gear is pretty neat . no noise ,no distortions added . also the bands are functioning unaltered when one of them is changed . i think , ill be keeping it .!!! anyone owns a jvc SEA 8080 ? ? ?
  12. Luxman 120A jvc victor SEA 8080. guys plz gimmi your experienced advice . i can get both at almost the same price . the jvc that i have seen has more bands , and luxman looks more hardcore professional. wouldnt they both add to worsening of sound . i have been looking at easy way to treat room acoustic problems .
  13. no dont send me the review dennie. just parcel me the gear . my address is , a 22, lane 2 , falc.....
  14. psg, ironsave, thanks for those replies . yeah im a little weary of digital systems.the digital gear i have only in my setup is the x33es sony cdp. i havent learnt anything about turntables ,so im not keeping one ,but i love em whenever i listen to them play jazz. the trial should be worth it , coz the techy fellow tells me that that victor has a very simple circuit and no complexities. id look for some dsps now ,perhaps some diy dsp should do. my question now is, can an equalizer be a substitution for room treatment ?? rendering NO need for room treatment measures like ??
  15. jjk, i wouldnt believe that the bass coming from a sub in the below 50hz range would be as tight as it comes from the floor standers 8inchers. i believe that it gets boomy and visceral . nd non audiophilic. sorry but subwoofers in stereo are just not my cup of tea .
  16. its the http://articulo.deremate.cl/MLC-33959707-victor-sea-7070-laboratory-sea-graphic-equalizer-_JM im sure its gonna be old and vintage but much cleaner and inert in itself and do a tidy job . my thinking is: if it can improve room acoustics by a 70%, id say im willing to use it and be happy with the minimal interference it poses in the loop ..
  17. guys, i again re position and re wired my speakers after i was convinced about the sheer abscence of the low frequency energy , through RF3s . now what can be done to improve upon. i have ordered an equalizer, though . it will reach next monday . till then plz pour in your ideas .
  18. willland, what you are suggesting is that now he should also invest in some amplifier too!!!! thats not fair . with the same gear , better speaker should sound better .
  19. yup , just yesterday a friend advised that he has a great equalizer to help me with the bumps and dips in the frequency band.i should give it a try .but im wary it wont help much. just my negative thinking . maybe it does ! hahha . yeah right . as if they are cheap .[] i would buy em someday when the room is good for em. as of now i cant get ANY speakers to sound good in this room , so i cant think of bringing those here and still be disappointed with the output . plz read the other thread freshly posted , '' speakers or room treatment''.
  20. iv also been very upset with my room acoustics. the system is RF3s a marantz pm-6 and sony X33ES cdp.the room is a 22x23 x 14feet high.stairs ways behind the sitting couch. i cannot just move the speakers and the rig down to another room . this is the only place where big speakers are allowed to be set . it occurs to me that the low frequencies are not full bodied.and that the higher frequencies are reflecting and overwhelming. the imaging is acceptable.the sound isnt pleasing . it isnt a relaxed sound . its not something you can sit back with and it will put you to sleep .NO. a friend (who has experienced ears) dropped by yesterday . he has years of expertise with tube amps solid state power amps and electronics .he also built a couple of tube amplifiers . the DIY thing and i heard one of em and it sounded really good at his place. he sat in my sitting position and played his selected CDs that he brought.some english/ indian classicals in very good recording.and then some vocals. after trying different tracks and playing a little bit with the amplifier MARANTZ PM-6's tone controls. and bringing the speakers out in the room by 8 to 10 inches more , we couldnot find any settlement . and he pointed out that the highs are not very detailed because of overwhelmed upper mids and that the lows had no ENERGY below the deficient region of 80 hz all the way down to the 30s. the tracks he said are loaded with cello and grand piano notes and that it has a lot of low frequency material to test any speakers for in the lows.. what he summarised was : 1) The low frequencies are not delivered with energy and there a serious deficit of low frquencies below 70 hz. 2) three to four db elevated frequencies around 1500hz. 3) highs are not as detailed and fully delivered ,perhaps there are some cancellations. 4) the sound isnt very relaxing ,musical or enjoyable..it could be better... he was kind enough to sit for a few hours and that we had long discussions ..... he said he would bring a few more cds to audition the system thoroughly in another session and that was too early to diagnose the issues ... He gave options. 1) to put an equalizer in the loop 2) treat the room with various absorbants .and bass traps. 3) to analyse if it was the speakers ,cd player or the amplifier at fault, by trying other combinations... by his visit and his incomplete analysis , it has come to my attention that im not enjoying my system at its best .heck , not even 50 percent of its best performance . sorry, but this thread sounded appropriate for this account . i know im not helping much at the moment but will surely add in some more info as soon as i tweak a bit more and have the other audio sessions with him. ill try to improve my sound to its best performance level and would love to let you know what we'v done to get it . tc
  21. thats a fine thread ,.... bravo! sorry i dont have RF-7s . what i only have are an old pair of good condition RF3s. the sound from the 3s is crisp. and very dependable on the amplifier and cd player . but the mid bass and low end could have been better , if i had a better room . i always get frustrated with that factor (room) going un attended, and un helped. instead of giving some ideas id rather poke my nose in and ask something from gurus here[]....... 1) how loud would you wana go ultimately ( RF3s are a capable speaker for goin loud and strong till your ears scream ....... stop it !!!!) 2) for your demand of going hefty at low volumes , the 7s might get that thing better ,but how much more significant would that improvement be ,considering the price difference??? 3) why not try the heritage ? chorus IIs . or the quartets ?they are 3 way and better off in the mid range and the mid bass region. but are they as detailed and fast as RF3s for dynamic music and latest hi definition movies ? comments plz ?
