It's a good thing they don't show old Heckle and Jeckle 'toons then, also. Ultra violent (IIRC) and blatantly racist. Very popular for a while, too.

I always wanted that coyote to catch that annoying, beep beeping road runner. Now I'll never know as no one will play that cartoon series here.

Indeed I have: Three actually, two since 1986. Not pleasant, but one of the Endodontists had Casablanca playing on the ceiling for distraction.

Only regret, is I missed the last five minutes of that movie. Did they 'round up the usual suspects'? ;)

It's hilarious how people hypocritically bemoan the lack of free expression while criticizing someone's free expression.  Critical thinking and deductive reasoning are rare indeed.  This is often seen in the politicization of everything, especially by malcontents who can't even be happy when they are in power.  The highest criminals cry like the professional victims they deride when they get caught, using words like "unfair."

Movies are made to make money, not satisfy a set of morals.  I have often said that they are a waste of time, and that time is sometimes more enjoyable than others.  Personally, I prefer the bad B movies because they make me laugh.  The only freedom in our economy is the freedom to make or lose money, ostensibly that is how it should be, or is it that the freedom lovers are really secret authoritarians?

Now, where was I?  Oh yeah, get off of my lawn...

Movies used to be made for both money and morals (Reefer Madness comes to mind - WRT morals) with money being the main driver (Louis B. Mayer died fat, rich and relatively happy). Now movies are still made for money and morals with morals playing a larger roll.

Try living here at times. We are taxed to death by Fool's who bribe us with our own money and can't balance their cheque books with both hands, pictogram like instructions, a working flashlight... and a map! At least you get to keep a fairer share of what you make with a progressive tax system and no visible at least Federal VAT.

i’m going out on a limb to guess that Wolfbane isn’t hosting an Academy Award “Oscars” Party.

i think i went to the movie theatre in 2012.  hadn’t gone in about five years before that. They’re just not making anything that, to me,  looks interesting or fun to watch.

haven’t read the entire thread so not sure which post this is in reference to or if it was just a general statement.  what you are referring to may be hypocritical or may not be -- i don’t know the particulars.

I feel that others are free to say what they want; but, i can also tell them that i think their opinion sucks. Supporting free expression doesn’t mean that we have to agree with that expression nor that we can’t criticize it -- if we allowed it, then there is no hypocrisy. allowance doesn’t equal support. disagreement doesn’t equal hate. society is drawing lines that i just fail to accept. But just in case ... all the posts on the Klipsch forum are important -- because its members are important. This is a safe space where there isn’t a boogy-man hiding behind every avatar. All views are welcomed ... well, except the ones that are shut down with that pesky little lock icon. On second thought, the moderators will tell you what to think.  Remember, we’ll all equal and valuable (If we like you). Welcome to Frustrated Friday.

Haven't watched that show in years. Either Billy Crystal or Johnny Carson emceed it. I like the idea of a Oscars' Party with the Idiot Box set to off and my Audio System set to on and loud with Belles playing.

Agree: Clip your toe nails, walk the dog, drink a cup of something good. Start a snowball fight. Anything to avoid the pontificating! That said, I'd be prepared to debate any of the pontificists on that show and I suspect have fun doing so.

i’d rather get my dentist drunk and let him give me a root canal. There’s one person in the industry that has had a special place in my heart for several years ... if she was up for an award, i’d watch; but only that part. But, then again ... she probably wouldn’t even go herself. Well, my friend’s daughter is an actress too, so I’d probably watch -- and my former roommate is a producer/director so i’d have to watch then too.  But, other than that ... no way!

Root Canal or not, I make sure my Dentist is always sober and stays the heck away from me with the Lidocaine or anything else that freezes my face. Haven't bothered with freezing at the dentist since 1986. Save that stuff for the woman (except my daughter Melissa who also does not want freezing for dental work) and the sissies. Having had several kidney stones over decades I don't find dental work in any way painful. Hate the low speed, high torque drill though!

  5. SNIP: " I loved older movies like Spartacus and Miracle on 39th Street. Patton and others come to mind where the good guys win and there were moral themes and God was not exiled and cussing and skin were not there where I had to worry about what my kids saw if I took them to see a movie.

So how many social justice warrior tick boxes did they get with this one? These people are disgusting and I could care less about super duper sound and visual effects when it is busy portraying garbage. I highly doubt I will ever go to the movies again or spend any money on them again. TV is the same and we don't have cable or satellite nor seek out local channels because of ads and all the Hollywood crap I mention above. Many years here without and every time I see things at peoples houses or Doctors offices or where ever it seems like what could not possibly get worse has."

    DaveA,

I'm not afraid of seeing skin in movies, nor have my girls see it, once they reached 18 YOA. After all, you've seen one person's junk and you pretty much seen them all! Perverted sh1t and gratuitous violence in movies I don't care for. I do agree that Hollywood has become a wasteland for the morally bereft in a lot of cases and many of these people are hypocrites (do as I say, not as I do: Leonardo DeCaprio and Neil Young are just two examples).

The recent revelation of paying to get your child into a school that they could never, ever attend on their own merit particularly troublesome. 'Social Influencers' or not! 'Full house' was full of BS; allegedly. Movies based on history have gone downhill with either recycled story lines like the new 'Midway' movie, 'Battleship' or the remake of 'Pearl Harbor' and CGI. Reality TV is mostly a waste of time too.

Higher education standards, with some notable exceptions, have fallen in the last thirty years where there are no losers, only winners, and it comes with free indoctrination thrown in to. Whatever happened to academic freedom and allowing anyone on campus to present their particular non-PC viewpoint (much of it by government mandate, a very slippery slope)? When my girls came home from University for the summer, Thanksgiving or at Xmas I sometimes had to work to de-program them and remind them that the world is not all black and white. There is black and white and grey everywhere in the real world.

Two of the movies you speak of above come from an era after the fall of most of the big studios and many talented director's etc. where free to make movies that were not formulaic. You probably don't want to see the director's cut of Spartacus though.

Common-sense and due process have mostly been replaced with group-think, social media trends. There is little due process occurring in the legal system anymore. Too many unqualified judges appointed by unqualified politicians. Too many people with their own agendas (often political) coming out of the woodwork to stick a rhetorical knife in someone's back regardless of whether that person is qualified, quilty of anything substantial, relavent or not.

Critical thinking and deductive reasoning is a rare thing today too.

It seems it's been all down hill WRT food safety in the USA since Theodore Roosevelt pushed for and got passed the Meat Inspection Act and the Pure Food and Drug Act . I suspect he either read Upton Sinclair's book 'The Jungle' himself (BTW; never, ever read this book) or was pragmatic enough to listen to public outrage over the quality of 'food' being imposed upon urban dwelling people over 100 years ago. There’s a South Park episode where the boys were supposed to get Stevie Nicks to perform for a group of veterans but they could not get her to sing. So they got a goat instead and nobody noticed the difference. Ever since whenever I hear Stevie Nicks all I hear is goat sounds.😳

I suspect that the goat would be cheaper to dress and happy eating anything.

My sister was pregnant with twins and she was having problems, so was put, not only on bed rest; but admitted to the hospital.  She asks me Mom to bring her something to read, so Mom stops at the store and grabs one of those tabloid newspapers.  She gives it to my sister who immediately starts crying. Mom didn’t notice the cover was some wild story about Siamese Twins.

My spouse spent the last ten days of her late pregnancy (Victoria's) in the same high-risk Anti-partum Unit here that Victoria was in for ten days a few weeks back. She was working twelve hour shifts just prior to that. Melissa was born via Ceasarian but surprisingly Victoria naturally. Last time I checked; the still born and mother death rate's are lower here in Canada than the USA so we have that statisical advantage.

I am more worried now than 30 years ago but that might just result from not being as young and naive. :)

  9. Hi Jeffrey,

    Thanks for the reply.

It is an Amp that can use either a pair of 45's or a pair 2A3 tubes that I use in rotation: Yamamoto A08. It sounds great with my Belles. All 2 WPC. etc... notwithstanding what an old curmugen that makes Crossovers had to say about low out put wattage. ;)

I also have amps that can output 300 WPC and more too but they are solid state, multi-channel (5 and 7) and are used for Home Theatre. Some times to my neighbor's expressed discomfort. She particularly didn't like the pictures shaking on her walls from the opening scene of the movie Predator (Helicopter). Wife was away and my buddies and I got too far into the wine, Beer, Scotch and Rye Whiskey.:emotion-22::emotion-46:🍺

    Not a mixture I recommend.

    Regards,

The highly revered Malantz Model Nine monoblock !!

Here is an interesting and true tidbit on its design.  In the 1980s, I had befriended an avid audiophile, who was also the DEAN of E.E. at the University of Alabama  His name was Charles A. Halijak, PhD.  During his career, he published 20 papers at the University, and received 27 different Citations ( not for speeding, gents !! ).  His published paper record can be seen on-line here :

    https://www.researchgate.net/scientific-contributions/2017834553_Charles_A_Halijak

Here is what I want to tell you all.  Dr.  Halijak's worst-liked amplifier, from a E.E. design point of view, was the Marantz Number Nine.   He felt it had so many design errors, that yearly he would have the students in his class, critique the design, and offer improvements to submit to Dr. Halijak.  This was his own requirement, before they would be able to pass his E.E. course !!!!!!

If any E.E. schooled by Dr. Halijak at the University of Alabama in the 1980s is reading this, I would enjoy your confirmation, of what I am reporting herein, and believe to be true.

Dr. Halijak was also a big believer of low as possible / practical DCR  ( Direct Current Resistance ) power supplies.   I wrote about that on page 8 of a KT88 build thread, earlier this year.

His favorite value power supply choke, for his own personal tube amp builds, had to be custom made back then.  He had Stancor build for him to his spec :  1 HY at 8 Ohm DCR power supply chokes.   Isn't that interesting, because it does not meet critical inductance, as is always taught the last maybe 100 years in all the conventional EE courses.  Dr. Halijak was brilliant, look at his papers.

Today, Hammond has a off-the-shelf 159ZA choke, six ohms, and it requires 75 hours of music - playing to break in.  One would always use at least two of these, in each tube amp's supply, as a L1/C1/L2/C2 B+ filter to feed the Finals.  Two 159ZAs, connected in series, is only 12 Ohms total DCR feeding the Finals tube,  from inductors .

    Jeffrey Medwin

I agree with the belief of better sound through Direct Current power supplies. Especially with tube amps.

Unusual in today's world though. See: http://www.emissionlabs.com/Articles/TECH-BULLETIN/TB-09-Why-DC-Heated-Tubes-can-still-hum/TB-09-WHY-DC-heated-tubes-can-still-hum.html

Disquise them with heavy, but fake, plant cover and play nature sounds only in your system for a week to ensure that she never notices them. I suggest starting out at a low volume.

She does however know I keep them very sharp and how to use sharp objects on someone. As such, I keep the Bread Knife high up in a kitchen cupboard she can't reach without a chair and try not to remind her too often of the above. The name Bobbitt is never mentioned. Better safe and quiet, then drunk and screaming!
