  1. Personally I'd go with the ksw-15 if you can afford it.... like paragon said... bass bug has bitten and now I am smitten, smitten with the need for more bass!!!! I also agree with movie freak, my sub is set up underneath a drafting desk 'bout 2 feet from my queen sized bed, volume on the computer is at 1/2 and volume on pod is at 1/2 for mains, subwoofer at 10 o'clock position and I can feel the bass through the bed, AND if you call in one minute... no, but about 15 feet away from the sub I can hear a picture frame rattling around, now I know what people meant by, thundering bass and room shaking.. go klipsch go,, maybe I can get an 8.2 system set up... hmmm
  2. Mike... never said that sony doesn't put as much effort into one department than the other I'm just saying that you have to realize every company has it's specialties and must show a profit or that division or department whichever you prefer will get cutbacks in $$$ which is quite a driving factor. Personally I don't spend a lot of time looking at the specs on computer monitors. I'd rather compare onkyo vs. denon vs. marantz vs. yamaha (i like electronics) or compare ferrari vs. porsche. Each brand and model has it's ups and downs you pickem when you buy it. By the way, I didn't say diamondtron, I said diamond scan, and in 1989.5 I bought the following: 386 processor (8 mhz maybe??) 4 mg ram 250 mb hdd 19" diamondscan monitor _________ ~~~$8000 it's been with me ever since. Why upgrade when I'm getting my money's worth? By the way Mitsubishi's tv's are quite nice, as are sony's but when you get hi end big screen, rear projection, hdtv, I have to go with the following choices: 1. toshiba 2. hitachi 3. pioneer 4. mitsubishi 5. sony my own input on whoever said that the sony has the best tv's you can buy
  3. Mike: Every diverse company is especially good at one thing in their product line. Sony which manufactures the actual dvds, dvd players, computers, dsp chips, monitors, speakers, receivers, amps, car audio, and all kinds of other things happens to make great televisions and all sorts of other things and that is why they have that reputation that you talked about. Most people don't realize that you can't be great at everything. For example.. The amplifiers in their receivers aren't the best quality (except elite receivers or es whatever they call them) but they make up for it with other things on their receivers (not bashing sony receivers, they are very nice and of high quality this is my opinion, and from my experience). Viewsonic makes computer monitors, maybe they make other things, but I've never heard of a viewsonic dvd player or a viewsonic car stereo. They make computer monitors so I'm sure they've had time to figure out how to rid us of two (2) little lines that are thinner than my hair. (their monitors are nice, not dissing viewsonic monitors) I personally like the mitsubishi diamond scan series as I've had the pleasure of viewing a 19" model for about 10 years now. (this is all my opinion, no bashing ment or felt) mike
  4. Talked to the audio/video store again, apparently, I can take my 400's back and upgrade to the 4.1's but... they don't have either in stock right now... damn.. guess I'll have to wait oh well, maybe they have anothers tore with some instock, lets hope, later mike
  5. Just talked to the audio video store, and they said I can return them and upgrade to the 4.1's. YEAH!!! I cna't wait, gonna do it thursday, be blastin the tunes thursday night. glad I kept all the materials and stuff, too bad the box is in crappy shape. Wish me luck
  6. I bought them from an audio-video store about 1 hour and 30 minutes driving time away from me. They were the only ones I could find within 3 hours driving distance, no one else had them. I realize that the 400's go for 250, that's what I bought them at, and the 4.1's for 300, but if I buy a preamp or 50, that makes 300 dollars invested and I haven't achieved better sound... well most likely no more static but not better imaging in mid range (that's in the new 4.1 satellites). There is no reason to buy a new preamp when I can get the new preamp with the 4.1's. I would be wasting 50 dollars (my opinion, might not be yours) when I can upgrade all together by taking them back and getting money back and going andbuying the 4.1's. Any one have any ideas on how to resolve the issue? anything I can do to stop the hiss other than buying a new preamp??? thanks mike
  7. To answer the klipsch representative: 1.) No I haven't tried another pre amp as I don't have another available to me. I only bought these speakers yesterday and set them up last night and noticed the static noise last night. 2.) I really can't justify spending 250 on the 400's then another 50 on a preamp when I can supposedly solve the problem by taking them back and getting the 4.1's instead (not klipsch bashing just doesn't make sense in my mind) I'm online all the time so if you have anymore questions or advice let me know... and thanks for the quick response mike
  8. Hello, I mentioned my problem in a previous post "How many preamps am I going to have to go through?". My problem is as follows. When I rotate the knob on my preamp from the starting position(7 o'clock) and up until about 10 o'clock I hear what in my opinion is a staticy popping noise. I've turned my winamp all the way down to 25% and my laptop's volume down and also the windows volume down as others have suggested in that earlier post but it doesn't seem to help as it still continues to do it, and it happens at all four speakers. I just got done experimenting with a cd-player and it's line output function which has volume control on it so it was all the preamp and it still makes the noise. I've also tried, rotating the knob quickly to get rid of it but... to no avail it still does it. Here's my dilemma, I like these speakers but... I'm a big fan of sound quality and this noise bothers the hell out of me, (call me picky). So either I can keep these, take them back get 1.) my money back, 2.) another set of promedia v.2-400's or 3.) I can get my money back and go to another store and buy a set of 4.1's. From the upgrades to the 4.1's I'd like to take my 400's back and get the 4.1's especially since this hissing noise but i'd like some opinions... thank you mike laptop specs: acer 736tlv 650 mhz, 20 gig hdd, 8mg ati rage, 128 mg ram
  9. I live in a college dorm and constantly listen to music while doing the homework. I already have a receiver( JVC-778bvk, 110x2, 100 x 5), a set of infinity 3 ways (1" titanium tweeter, 3" midrange, and 10" woofer) a subwoofer (10" 100 or 150 watts) and several other sets of small jvc speakers. My receiver can handle and 8-16 ohm load. Center channel speaker I'm wiring two of the small jvc speakers Mains- infinity and klipsch pro media fronts surround, klipsch pro media rears, subs- pro media and 10" sub I am going to acquire a dvd player soon that will decode dts and ac3 and has component audio outs as well as toslink (optical out). My thoughts are that I can use the toslink into the receiver to drive the center channel speaker and then use the component audio outs (rca plugs to rca-mini stereo adapter to coupler to klipsch wiring) to run the klipsch. Since I would still have a lfe channel on the dvd player I could run that to my sub. Problems with this setup: if I hook up the infinitys or use the receiver to power the center channel I will not be able to match volume between the klipsch and receiver precisely. Can anyone help me out? any ideas other than this? thanks mike
  10. Sorry forgot to include the specifications for my laptop, as these might be helpful. Acer 736TLV 650 mhz pentium III, 4x dvd rom, 128 mg ram, 20 gig hdd, 8 mg ati rage, win 98, use winamp, and most songs I play are 160kbps or higher. Hope this helps, thanks again, mike
  11. Hello all, I'm proud to say that after listening to several other pro-media systems on my floor I have bought a set of the pro media v2.400 and I'm very happy with the sound BUT.... I'm anal about my hometheater sounds and right now this is my home-theater to go along with my laptop (specs listed below). My problem is that I notice a slight hissing when adjusting the volume of my speakers. If I turn the volume from (7 o'clock starting position) to about 10 o'clock it produces a slight hissing sound that gets louder after I start and then gradually fades once I reach the 10 o'clock position. It does this in all four speakers, and my pre-amp is not mounted to any of them, it is standalone. It also does this whether hooked up to my lap top or not. I would appreciate any advice on how to clarify this problem as quickly as possible. Other than that, KLIPSCH ROCKS!!! later mike
